Microsoft has officially launched three new commercial Surface devices for enterprise customers on May 19, all powered by Intel's Core Ultra Series 3 processors. The new lineup includes the Surface Pro 12, the 13.8-inch and 15-inch Surface Laptop 8 models, and a 13-inch commercial Surface Laptop.
The pricing for the new devices has seen a significant increase. The Surface Pro 12 starts at a notably high price of $1,949.99, with the top-tier configuration reaching $4,399.99. The starting price for the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 8 is also set at $1,949.99, nearly double the launch price of its predecessor. Microsoft is offering options for 5G connectivity and OLED displays. Analysts have noted that a "memory price surge" has impacted the Surface product line, with current consumer models seeing a $500 increase compared to their original launch prices.
Key hardware upgrades include the introduction of a "Smart Haptic Touchpad" in the Surface Laptop 8, which provides detailed haptic feedback in Windows 11 for scenarios such as hovering, dragging, and slider adjustments. The 13.8-inch model also offers an optional built-in privacy screen for the first time, which can be managed centrally by IT teams or activated with a single button. The 15-inch version has been upgraded with a higher-resolution display panel.
In a shift from the strategy two years ago, where Qualcomm-powered versions launched first followed by Intel models six months later, Microsoft is now prioritizing Intel Core Ultra series versions. Models equipped with Qualcomm's next-generation Snapdragon X2 processors are expected to be released later this year. Reports suggest that the Snapdragon X2 chipset is still facing supply constraints.
Microsoft has retained the Surface Connect magnetic charging port across the new lineup, with all models supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. According to sources, consumer-grade Surface devices are anticipated to be unveiled in June this year.
