Meta, the social media giant, has started to reduce its headcount in Ireland and is expected to lay off a large number of contract workers in the coming weeks.
The Sunday Times has learnt that between 30 and 35 jobs have already been lost in Dublin after the tech company shut down Novi, its cryptocurrency project, on September 1.
Meta is also laying off junior recruiters who work on contract for the company. A source suggested that up to 100 recruiter jobs could be at risk. It is believed that the company has not renewed the contracts of agency staff, in an effort to reduce its headcount quickly.
A significant proportion of Meta's 6,000 staff in Ireland are on contract.
