Meta Platforms (META) has agreed to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit by President Donald Trump over the suspension of his Facebook and Instagram accounts in the aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Trump sued Meta and other technology firms in 2021, arguing that he had been wrongfully censored.
According to the reports, $22 million of the payment will go toward funding Trump's presidential library and the remainder will go to attorneys' fees and compensation for other plaintiffs.
Reuters said that Meta filed a notice regarding the settlement in a San Francisco court.
Meta and the White House did not immediately respond to MTNewswires' request for comment.
