China, U.S. Tariffs De-Escalate But Uncertainty Remains -- Market Talk
Dow Jones05-12
0737 GMT - The significant reduction in tariffs between the U.S. and China marks a pivotal moment in global trade dynamics, says Aaron Hill, Chief Markets Analyst at FP Markets. The temporary detente--with U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods dropping from 145% to 30% and Chinese tariffs on U.S. goods falling from 125% to 10% for 90 days--suggests a mutual desire to avoid decoupling, he writes. "However, the 90-day timeframe indicates that tariff cuts are a negotiation tactic rather than a permanent resolution, creating uncertainty about long-term trade policies," he says in a note.
