The Senate on Wednesday evening rejected a second attempt to rein in President Trump's military campaign in Iran, voting 48-53 against a war-powers resolution led by Sen. Cory Booker (D., N.J.). The vote was largely along party lines, though Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.) voted for the measure, and Sen. John Fetterman (D., Pa.) voted against.
The measure cited the administration's "massive and ongoing" operations in Iran and argued Congress had been sidelined as the situation escalated into war. Like an earlier effort by Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.)-which also failed-Booker's resolution would have directed the president to withdraw U.S. forces from unauthorized hostilities absent congressional approval.
Other Democratic senators also plan to force votes on their privileged war-powers measures in a coordinated effort to pressure lawmakers to take a position.
