President Trump said late Wednesday that Israel won't make further attacks against a major Iranian gas field, after an earlier strike led Iran to retaliate by attacking a major gas hub in Qatar.
"NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
He warned that if Iran still decides to attack Qatar, "the United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before."
Trump said the U.S. "knew nothing" of Israel's attack on the South Pars gas field, the largest such facility in the world. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that the U.S. was informed of Israel's plan ahead of time and had no issues with it, according to American and Israeli officials. Trump approved of the strike, U.S. officials said, to pressure Iran to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, the Journal reported.
