Iran has appointed Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr as the secretary of its Supreme National Security Council, according to state media, replacing Ali Larijani, who was killed in Israeli strikes last week.
Zolghadr, 72, is a former commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, where he reached the rank of brigadier general. He previously served as deputy commander. More recently, he was secretary of Iran's Expediency Discernment Council and previously was deputy interior minister under former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
