Health-care companies rose, but not by as much as the broad market, as traders rotated into sectors more sensitive to shifts in the price of oil.
Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and French vaccine maker Valneva reported positive topline results from a late-stage study of a vaccine candidate for Lyme disease. Shares of Valneva plunged 37%, however, due to the trial missing certain targets.
Danish obesity-drug maker Novo Nordisk initiated an early-stage study of an oral obesity-drug candidate it agreed to license from Lexicon Pharmaceuticals last year.
