U.S. oil giant ConocoPhillips is pleading with the Trump administration to try to get extra protection around Qatari oil-and-gas facilities in which the company and others have invested hundreds of millions of dollars, company CEO Ryan Lance said.

ConocoPhillips is asking the administration to expand its list of things to protect beyond naval and air force bases, servicemen, embassies and U.S. citizens, Lance said Tuesday at the S&P Global CERAWeek energy conference in Houston. He said the company had to evacuate a number of nonessential staff over the last couple of weeks. "Putting U.S. assets on that list to protect there in Qatar is very important," he said.

ConocoPhillips's longstanding collaboration with QatarEnergy dates back to 2003 and the development of Qatargas 3, a large-scale LNG project in Ras Laffan Industrial City, according to the company's website. Iran last week struck several facilities at Ras Laffan that inflicted crippling damages.
