Asian Economies Better Positioned to Manage Middle East Conflict Impact -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-24

0317 GMT - Asia, excluding Mainland China and India, is better positioned to manage the impact from the Middle East conflict now, compared to the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, ANZ Research's Sanjay Mathur writes in a report. In 2022, the region faced pent-up demand and higher commodity prices after the pandemic. "The current situation is relatively milder, with price pressures mainly on oil," the economist says. Growth is supported by the tech supercycle now rather than domestic demand. However, a prolonged conflict would further hurt shipping costs, retail fuel prices and remittances.(amanda.lee@wsj.com)
