Mario Gabelli, chairman and co-CEO of Gabelli Funds, was admitted to the hospital for observation and testing following a "medical incident" on Thursday, Gabelli Funds said in a release on Monday.

Gabelli Funds said the billionaire investor's "condition is improving and he is on the road to recovery."

Gabelli's medical incident took place after a "busy day of events" in New York City, according to the firm. Gabelli attended and participated in the Value Invest New York conference that day. Barron's covered the panel where he spoke about recent market volatility and named some of his favorite stocks.

Gabelli has been a member of the Barron's Roundtable for several decades. He is 83 years old, according to his Wikipedia page. Barron's has reached out to his company and family to confirm.

"The timeline for his return is not yet known. The day-to-day operations of the company will continue to be led by its Co-CEO, Douglas Jamieson and President and Co-CIO Christopher Marangi, and his client portfolios will continue to be managed by his team," the company said.
