Iran had threatened to widen attacks on U.S. infrastructure ahead of President Trump's decision to postpone further strikes on its energy sites. Over the weekend, Iranian military spokesman Lieutenant Col. Ebrahim Zolfaghari said Iran would target all fuel, energy, tech and desalination infrastructure used by the U.S. in the region if its own energy sites were attacked.
On Monday morning, the regime's Supreme Defense Council threatened to lay "various types of naval mines" throughout the Persian Gulf if its coasts or islands come under attack, according to semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim. The threats came in response to President Trump's 48-hour deadline for Tehran to fully open the Strait of Hormuz, a limit he first set out on Saturday, after which time he said the U.S. would attack all Iran's power plants.
