Japan's Wage Talks Data in Focus for Rate-Hike Cues -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-23

0112 GMT - Preliminary results of annual wage negotiations in Japan, due later in the day, are expected to show another year of solid pay increases. "If this trend continues among small and medium-sized enterprises, and the situation in the Middle East calms down, it will be viewed as evidence that the virtuous cycle of cost pass-through and wage increases is being maintained," says Harumi Taguchi, an economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence. Taguchi expects the Bank of Japan to raise interest rates to 1% in July. (megumi.fujikawa@wsj.com)
