U.S. Gasoline Prices Rose More Than $1 a Gallon in the Past Month, AAA -- WSJ

Dow Jones03-23

By Isabella Simonetti

The national average gasoline price reached $3.94 a gallon on Sunday, with at least nine states seeing prices at the pump that were even higher, according to AAA.

A new survey of gas prices shows the U.S. average is $1.01 more per gallon than a month ago, before the war with Iran began. California, Washington and Hawaii all now average over $5.00 a gallon, with California hitting an average $5.76.

Gas prices in Illinois were up to $4.16 per gallon on Sunday, rising by about 45 cents from a week prior. In Idaho, prices were $4.09 a gallon, up about 42 cents from the week prior.

The national average is still far below the highest-recorded U.S. average price for gasoline. That record of $5.02 a gallon for regular unleaded was set in June 2022, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
