An inquiry by Israel's military found its forces were responsible for killing an Israeli civilian with artillery fire in the country's north, with initial findings pointing to "several severe issues and operational errors." Israeli authorities initially said the incident on Sunday was the result of an attack by Hezbollah militants, though the military later said it was investigating further.
Ofer Moskovitz was killed when his vehicle was struck and caught on fire in Misgav Am, a kibbutz that sits on the border with Lebanon. Moskovitz, known by his nickname "Pushko," was a farmer and a spokesman for the kibbutz, according to a statement released by the community. Israel's military said artillery was fired to support soldiers operating in southern Lebanon. Errors took place during both planning and execution, such as launching from an incorrect angle and not following protocols, the investigation found. As a result, the military said, five artillery shells were fired at the Misgav Am ridge inside Israel instead of toward the enemy target.
