Israel is further restricting operations out of Ben Gurion Airport, the country's main international airport, starting 5 p.m. Monday. No more than one flight will be permitted to depart every hour and each departing flight will be able to carry no more than 50 people, Transportation Minister Miri Regev said.
The decision was made amid concern about Iranian missile fire after the southern Israeli cities of Dimona and Arad were hit Saturday, a spokesman for Regev said. Outgoing flights were previously capped at 120 people, with two flights departing an hour.
The change comes ahead of Israel's Passover holiday, which starts next week and for which many residents tend to fly abroad on vacation. Israelis have been continuing to exit the country in large numbers through the land borders with Egypt and Jordan.
