Iran threatened to lay "various types of naval mines" throughout the Persian Gulf if its coasts or islands come under attack, the regime's Supreme Defense Council said, according to a semi-official Iranian news agency.
"The entire Persian Gulf will be in conditions similar to the Strait of Hormuz for a long period of time," the council was reported as saying by Tasnim. The council added that "non-hostile countries" can transit the strait "through direct coordination with Iran." The number of ships transmitting the crucial channel has fallen from 100 a week before the war to seven a week, according to commodities-data provider Kpler, resulting in a surge in global oil prices. Iran has attacked several commercial vessels in the strait since the conflict began, causing blazes, damage and at least one death. It has also laid mines there.
