FedEx is teaming up with last-mile delivery provider OneRail to offer same-day delivery service, on the heels of Amazon's recent launch of speedier delivery options.

FedEx on Tuesday said it is rolling out of FedEx SameDay Local, a service that will let shoppers choose two-hour or end-of-day delivery directly at checkout.

The Memphis, Tenn., package-delivery giant said the service will connect customers to a national network of more than 1,000 delivery providers and automatically match orders to the appropriate vehicle and driver, with live tracking updates from pickup to delivery.

FedEx's move comes after Amazon last week said it was rolling out one-hour and three-hour delivery services across the U.S.
