OTTAWA--The Bank of Canada said Tuesday it has delayed a planned auction of available cash because of an internal computer-systems issue.
A Bank of Canada spokesman said the problem is not related to a cyber attack.
The central bank added that other planned market operations may be affected. "While the issue has been identified and recovery is underway, we do not currently have a timeline for when it will be completely resolved," the Bank of Canada said.
The Bank of Canada acts as the government of Canada's fiscal agent, so it is in charge of handling the issuance of sovereign debt securities and managing the foreign-exchange reserves.
The central bank spokesman said the delay affected a call for tenders scheduled Tuesday afternoon for an auction of excess cash in Canada's receiver-general account. The auction is designed to provide short-term cash for the banking system.
