Aecon Group said that its joint venture with FlatironDragados has finalized a $691 million contract to build a new downstream fish passage and water storage facility at the Howard A. Hanson Dam in Washington State.
The Canadian construction and infrastructure development company on Wednesday said the contract was awarded to the FlatironDragados-Aecon JV, in which Aecon has a 40% stake, by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The JV will build a new downstream dam facility with a series of stacked ports on the dam's upstream side. The system will work in conjunction with upstream structures to help fish reach and return from their spawning habitat.
The collaborative development phase and the start of construction are expected to begin in the second quarter of this year. The JV expects to finish construction by the third quarter of 2031.
Aecon said that its share of the contract will be added to the construction segment backlog in the first quarter of 2026.
