Iran moved to assert its authority over the Strait of Hormuz, with its mission to the United Nations saying in a post on X Tuesday that "non-hostile" vessels can pass through the waterway "in coordination with the competent Iranian authorities." The mission said the vessels could travel the strait if they "neither participate in nor support acts of aggression against Iran" and comply with safety and security regulations.
Iran has effectively closed the strait-where about 20% of the global oil supply typically flows-to big energy producers and vessels owned by Tehran's adversaries.
