The Senate on Tuesday rejected a third attempt this month to limit President Trump's military campaign in Iran, voting 53-47 against a war-powers resolution spearheaded by Sen. Chris Murphy (D., Conn.).
As with the previous two Democratic resolutions, Tuesday's measure was blocked largely along party lines, with the exception of Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.), who voted for the measure, and Sen. John Fetterman (D., Pa.), who voted against it.
The vote occurred after Trump said Tuesday that talks to make a deal with Iran are under way and "they want to make a deal so badly." The U.S. has sent Iran a 15-point plan to end the war, officials said. Trump said he was confident of Iran's willingness to come to an agreement.
Murphy's resolution said the Trump administration had offered "inconsistent timelines" for Operation Epic Fury that have put the lives of U.S. troops at risk. Similar to the resolutions proposed by Sen. Cory Booker (D., N.J.) and Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.), Murphy's resolution called for the removal of U.S. armed forces from hostilities within or against Iran.
