Altman to Meet White House Chief of Staff on AI Policy

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said he has seen the proposed framework for implementing President Donald Trump's executive order on artificial intelligence, and will meet with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles while in Washington this week, CNBC reported Wednesday.

Altman is also meeting with senior administration officials, lawmakers and economists to discuss OpenAI's upcoming models, cybersecurity and the US position in the global AI race, the report said.

The meetings coincide with an approaching Aug. 1 deadline for federal agencies to develop a framework to evaluate AI models under Trump's June executive order, which asked companies to voluntarily submit models for government assessment ahead of full release, according to the report.

Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang is separately on Capitol Hill this week to discuss open models and American AI leadership, a spokesperson told CNBC.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and several Senate Democrats met with Altman on Wednesday, with the two discussing what it will take for the US to remain competitive in AI, Altman told CNBC.
