Trump: US agrees to hold off Iran attack after deal request

President Donald Trump announced on August 2 that the United States has agreed to postpone a military strike against Iran, following a request from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries. Trump stated that the U.S. is "locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II."

According to Trump, the request was made after "the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to," which would include "the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran's nuclear threat." He said he agreed to cancel the attack "for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran," subject to being able to rapidly make a deal. Trump added that Israel joins him in this commitment.

The president urged all parties to "Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE." No further details on the deal or timeline were provided by Trump.
