Trump: Backing Tano Tijerina against Henry Cuellar

Trump's Truth Social latest posts10-08

President Donald Trump announced on October 7 on social media platform X that he is heading to Texas and publicly endorsing Republican candidate Tano Tijerina, who is challenging incumbent Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar. Trump stated that he pardoned Cuellar and his wife at the request of their daughters after they faced more than 20 years in prison on federal fraud and conspiracy charges. Trump said he made no deal for the pardons, but assumed Cuellar, whom he described as persecuted by Democrats, would likely switch to the Republican Party. However, Cuellar announced just days later that he would remain a Democrat, which Trump called "a tremendous act of disloyalty" and "extremely ungrateful."

Trump praised Tijerina as "a STAR" and hoped he would win, describing the election as "payback for a disloyal and ungrateful person." He called Cuellar "a LOSER who, right now, should be serving a long-term jail sentence." Trump also noted that Cuellar's brother, a sheriff, was later indicted on the same charges. The president said he is proud that he did not make a deal with Cuellar but relied on his character, which turned out "faulty."

Trump urged voters to support Tijerina, saying he loves Laredo and all of South Texas, and most importantly, loves the United States of America.
