Autonomous-driving startup Nuro is bringing on a Roblox and Lyft veteran as its chief product officer.

Rajiv Bhatia will oversee Nuro's product strategy and roadmap for its AI-first self-driving system as it gears up for a commercial ramp up, the company said Thursday.

Under Bhatia, Nuro said it plans to continue developing a portfolio of products tailored to end-consumers and the needs of commercial fleets, consumer-facing transportation networks and personal vehicles.

Bhatia was most recently VP of product at videogame company Roblox, a role he left in June after about four years at the company. He was previously VP of product, rideshare at Lyft.

Bhatia "has a proven track record of navigating the technical, operational and regulatory pressures that come with emerging technologies," Nuro's Co-Chief Executive Jiajun Zhu said. "As Nuro moves into a period of meaningful commercial expansion, Rajiv's experience will be invaluable."

Nuro, which had a valuation of $6 billion as of last year, licenses its core product--a system it calls the Nuro Driver--to automakers, ride-hailing platforms and logistics companies, with the aim of allowing those partners to deploy autonomous vehicles at scale.

Nuro is providing the self-driving technology behind Uber's planned rollout of a robotaxi service using electric vehicles from Lucid, for instance.
