$SMIC(00981)$ has been named one of China’s top seven tech giants, and when compared to the U.S. tech giants, it has a lot of similarities. Some of its core business areas are really similar to theirs, but the markets they cover are different, one’s focused on China, the other on the U.S. In fact, they can even be directly compared. SMIC’s main business is wafer foundry services, and while it’s not in direct competition with companies like $NVIDIA(NVDA)$ , both are leading players in the logic chip supply chain in China and the U.S.

However, this competition alone doesn’t fully capture the "second half battle" between the U.S. and China’s tech giants. The more critical area is artificial intelligence. AI is the key factor behind the rise of China’s seven tech giants this year. While U.S. tech giants have been heavily investing in AI models and computing infrastructure over the past few years, China’s leading companies aren’t far behind either.
