TSLA rally for a 4th Week, this Week ?

Recap.

After 2 days of rallying, US market consolidated ahead of the 2-day US-China trade talk, held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Investors were wary of anything potentially negative coming from the meetings.

As a result, the little bit of anxiety and a fair amount of profit taking, drove US market to end the week, marginally lower. (see below)

• DJIA: -0.29% (-119.07 to 41,249.38).

• S&P 500: -0.07% (-4.03 to 5,659.91).

• Nasdaq: 0.00% (+0.78 to 17,928.92).

For the week, the Dow lost -0.2%, while S&P 500 fell -0.5% and Nasdaq slipped -0.3%.

With the latest “good” news coming out of the US-China trade talk, it looks like the right excuse / alibi for US market to rally again, at least for the next 3 months. (see above)

Mid-month Expectations.

As we head into mid-May 2025, below are the expected activities for the coming week.

(1) Economic Reports.

• Tue, 13 May 2025 - Consumer Price index (CPI).

• Thu, 15 May 2025 - US weekly jobless claims.

• Thu, 15 May 2025 - US Retail sales (less autos).

• Thu, 15 May 2025 - Producer Price index (PPI).

• Thu, 15 May 2025 - Fed chair, Jerome Powell speech**

• Thu, 15 May 2025 - Home Builder Confidence index.

• Fri, 16 May 2025 - Import Price index.

• Fri, 16 May 2025 - Consumer Sentiments (prelim).

High Profile Speech.

• Mr Powell’s speech is titled “Framework Review”.

• It will be at the Thomas Laubach Research Conference in Washington, D.C.

• His speech is expected to focus on Fed’s cautious policy stance in the face of trade-related economic risks.

• Markets and investors alike will be closely watching for any hints about the timing or likelihood of future rate changes.

(2) Quarterly Earnings.

• Tue, 13 May 2025 - $Sea Ltd(SE)$.

• Tue, 13 May 2025 - $Nu Holdings Ltd.(NU)$.

• Tue, 13 May 2025 - JD.com(JD)$

• Wed, 14 May 2025 - Cisco System Inc(CSCO).

• Wed, 14 May 2025 - $CoreWeave, Inc.(CRWV)$.

• Thu, 15 May 2025 - $Wal-Mart(WMT)$

• Thu, 15 May 2025 - Alibaba Group (BABA).

Tesla Cont’d To Rise, 12 May Week ?

In a strange twist of event, US car maker $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ rallied on the last 3 trading days of last week. (see below)

By the end of the week (09 May 2025), it has risen by +4.95% or $14.07 to close the week of a high $298.26 per share. In fact, TSLA has been gaining for the past 3 weeks in a row.

The stock was recently up +5% at around $300, after hitting $307 earlier, its highest price since February 2025.

TSLA’s surge came amid optimism about the possibility the US will strike more trade deals after the Trump administration reached an agreement with the UK on Thu, 08 May 2025.

Year-to-date, TSLA is still down by -21.36%.

In the coming weeks, investors will be looking for updates on Tesla’s self-driving robotaxi plans.

The company said in its earnings report last month that it still aims to start offering paid rides in Model Y vehicles in Austin, Texas, by end June 2025.

In a post by “thestreet”, Piper Sandler, Analyst, Alexander Potter had a critical review of TSLA’s robotaxi.

• It maintains a bullish price target of $400 per share.

• Despite the high price target, he expressed doubts about TSLA”s FSD version 13’s readiness for fully autonomous robotaxis without human control.

• His skepticism follows a review of FSD progress and the lack of recent software updates.

• This suggests that TSLA’s robotaxi launch may face significant challenges.

• Mr CEO confirmed that any Tesla EV installed with FSD could become a robotaxi.

• However, rollout remains complex and potentially confusing for consumers.

Just so you know, unlike TSLA's robotaxi presentation on 10 Oct 2024 at Warner Brother Discovery Centre, the impending robotaxi program will NOT feature a pedal less, steering wheelless coupe.

Instead, it will just use existing technology in existing Tesla models. Disappointed yet ?
