New High Alert: Can Palantir Pull Off Another 2x This Year?

$S&P 500(.SPX)$

Palantir Technologies ( $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ ) has soared to a record high of $134.48, cementing its status as a Wall Street darling. With a 75% year-to-date gain in 2025 and a market cap now hovering at $309 billion, the buzz is electric. Fueling this surge are reports of Palantir engaging with the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), alongside its existing $795 million Department of Defense contract. But with a sky-high forward P/E of 222, investors are asking: Can Palantir double again in 2025? Will it reclaim its S&P 500 top-performer crown? And is it still the ultimate pick for the Trump term? Let’s break it down.

Palantir’s Government Goldmine: Trump’s Tech Ally?

Palantir’s ties to the U.S. government are tighter than ever. Beyond its established presence in agencies like the Department of Homeland Security, discussions with the SSA and IRS signal a potential expansion of its data analytics empire. These talks, confirmed by insiders, could lock in massive contracts, leveraging Palantir’s AI and Foundry platform to streamline federal operations. With the Trump administration prioritizing efficiency and national security, Palantir’s tech fits like a glove—making it a prime contender to dominate the government sector during this term.

But there’s a flip side. Critics warn that Palantir’s deep government integration could spark ethical debates, especially if its tools are used for controversial policies. Privacy lawsuits loom as a risk, yet the administration’s data-driven agenda likely outweighs these hurdles, keeping Palantir in pole position.

Doubling Down: Is Another 2x Realistic?

Palantir’s stock is on fire—up 140% since Trump’s November 2024 win and 75% YTD in 2025. Last year, it clinched the S&P 500’s top spot with a 340.5% gain. To double again this year, it’d need to hit $268—a 100% leap from $134.48. Possible? Maybe, but it’s a stretch.

The growth engine is humming. Q1 2025 revenue jumped 36% to $862.3 million, with EPS at $0.13, smashing forecasts. New government deals and a booming AI-driven commercial segment fuel the optimism. Yet, the stock’s price-to-sales ratio of 97.74 and forward P/E of 222 scream caution. Analysts peg the average target at $100.19—solid, but far from doubling. Even the rosiest $150 forecasts suggest a 12% upside, not 100%.

S&P 500 Crown: Can Palantir Reign Again?

Palantir’s 2024 S&P 500 victory was no fluke, and its 75% YTD run keeps it in the race. But repeating as top performer means outpacing giants like Nvidia and Tesla, who are also riding AI and policy tailwinds. Palantir’s government moat gives it an edge, but its commercial growth (still dwarfed by government revenue) must accelerate to seal the deal. A recession—pegged at 45% odds by J.P. Morgan—could dent its commercial side, making a repeat tougher. It’s a contender, but not a lock.

Valuation Reality Check: Bubble or Bargain?

At 222x forward earnings, Palantir’s valuation is nosebleed territory—dwarfing Microsoft (31x) and Nvidia (45x). Institutional ownership is at a five-year low, hinting at skepticism or a contrarian opportunity. If growth stumbles, a 50% drop isn’t off the table. But flawless execution—think SSA/IRS wins and AI breakthroughs—could justify the premium. It’s a high-stakes bet: priced for perfection, with little margin for error.

My Target Price: $150 by Year-End

I’m calling $150 by December 2025—a 12% climb from $134.48. This banks on new government contracts and steady commercial gains, tempered by valuation headwinds. Doubling to $268? Unlikely without a seismic catalyst. Long-term bulls have room to dream, but short-term chasers might get burned.

Final Take: Hold, Watch, or Buy?

Palantir’s government clout and AI prowess make it a Trump-era standout, but its valuation demands caution. A 2x run feels out of reach without a miracle, though $150 is in play. It could vie for S&P 500 supremacy again, but risks loom. What’s your target price? Sound off below! 📊

This stock will more than likely be over $200 at years end. You will still be talking about the P/E. Some people are slower than others but I believe that eventually you'll get the picture.

While I don't expect it to happen, 170 by July 1 would be sweet. I'll take 150+ by then, though.
