Optics could be the next big AI infrastructure play. A lot of people missed the memory trade in 2026 with MU and SNDK, and the next layer of the AI buildout might offer a similar opportunity. As AI clusters scale and networking shifts from 800G to 1.6T and beyond, demand for optical infrastructure could accelerate into 2027. AAOI earnings may help set the tone. My optics watchlist includes $Applied Optoelectronics(AAOI)$ , $Lumentum(LITE)$ , $Coherent(COHR)$ , $Fabrinet(FN)$ , and SIVE. Memory was one of the biggest AI themes of 2026, and now I'm watching whether optics becomes one of the biggest AI infrastructure themes of 2027. AI needs more than compute — it needs bandwidth.
