MSTR +24% Bitcoin Rally: Still Worth Chasing?
Strategy just reminded the market why MSTR is one of the highest-beta ways to play Bitcoin.
Bitcoin has ripped ~24% recently, pushing Strategy’s 840,447 BTC holdings back above their aggregate cost basis. MSTR followed with a 2.83% gain Monday — but the bigger story is the $2B capital raise.
Here’s the bullish part:
Strategy now has roughly $6.69B of USD liquidity, including a newly created $1.59B cash pool. That gives Saylor dry powder to buy Bitcoin, repurchase securities, or exploit market dislocations.
And this is why I’m still bullish on MSTR:
BTC goes up → MSTR’s asset base strengthens → capital becomes easier to raise → more BTC can potentially be accumulated → BTC exposure per share can compound.
That reflexive loop is the entire MSTR thesis.
But there’s one important catch.
Strategy raised the $2B by selling 18.26M MSTR shares, while BTC holdings stayed unchanged at 840,447 last week. So investors shouldn’t automatically interpret this raise as “$2B of fresh Bitcoin buying.”
That changes my view on chasing.
I wouldn’t chase a big green candle just because Bitcoin is ripping. MSTR is already the leveraged version of the BTC trade, meaning a BTC pullback can hit MSTR disproportionately hard.
My play:
🟢 Bullish MSTR medium-term
🟡 Don’t FOMO after a vertical move
🟢 Prefer buying weakness rather than buying the breakout
🔴 If BTC loses momentum around/after Jackson Hole, MSTR could unwind much faster than spot BTC
The key question isn’t:
“Did I miss the Bitcoin rally?”
It’s:
“Can Bitcoin continue higher enough to justify MSTR’s premium and its capital-raising machine?”
If BTC continues trending higher, I think MSTR remains one of the most explosive upside plays.
But if BTC stalls, I’d rather own spot BTC/IBIT than pay for MSTR’s additional leverage.
My verdict: Bullish on MSTR — but WAIT for a pullback rather than chase.
MSTR is the turbocharged Bitcoin trade.
And you don’t floor the accelerator immediately after the car has already accelerated 24%. 🚀
