The one that definitely hurt the most is #5: Big gains on paper… but now it’s red. Watching a position sit comfortably at +50% and refusing to lock in profits, only to ride it all the way down into a 10% loss, is a unique kind of emotional damage.
Another classic facepalm moment is #7: Picked the winner... but bought too little. I remember nailing the research and picking a massive winner, but only putting in a tiny allocation, watching it surge +100% while my heavy-conviction positions stayed completely flat!

🚀 #1: Sell after months of waiting, then watch it jump 30%!
📉 #3: Buy the dip at -10%, average down at -20%, and panic at -40%!
😭 #4: Sell at a loss, then watch it rebound the next day.💸 #5: Up 50%, feeling like a genius… now down 10%!
🤦♂️ #7: The stock you bought with $50 doubles, while your big positions do nothing!
Lesson learned: patience, risk management and taking profits matter!
Which one hurts the most? I’m voting #3! 😂
I bought at the peak, experienced big gains on paper but now it is red.
The lesson I learnt is when I sit at unrealised gains of 30%, it is a paper illusion. It teaches me the most critical discipline in wealth building:
The stock market does not pay you for being right. It only pays when you hit sell.
The reason I got trapped is the toxic belief that a skyrocketing stock will go up forever. When DRAM ETF was flying high at USD 81, I did not lock in gains.
I did not implement a trailing stop loss or a profit taking blueprint.
An unrealised loss is a failure of risk management.
As Paul Tudor Jones said:
"Don't focus on making money, focus on protecting what you have."

bought 0.1 share of MSFT @380/share then sold it @435/share. The current price for MSFT is about 540/share.
