If earnings do not give good guidance or cannot match expectations, PLTR is going to 60 bucks. 60 bucks quite high for entry. I prefer 45.

Dividend focus or growth focus? I think this is a common question that most investors will have when they start their investment journey, or when they rebalance their portfolio. This a a dilemma for me till today as well, should I even consider to include the stock in my portfolio if it does not pay dividends? So many new users piled in that DeepSeek struggled to keep the app online, suffering outages and forcing it to restrict signups to users with Chinese phone numbers.</p><p>DeepSeek’s dark-horse entry into the AI race, which it says cost just $5.6 million to develop, is a challenge to Silicon Valley’s narrative that massive capital spending is essential to developing the strongest models. That delivered a serious blow to billionaires whose fortunes are tied to the Western AI supply chain that’s been the equities market’s biggest driver over the past two years.</p><h3 id=\"id_2361236393\">Similar Playbook</h3><p>Soaring valuations for so-called AI hyperscalers — including Meta Platforms Inc., Alphabet Inc. and Microsoft Corp. — have generated billions in wealth for their owners since OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT in November 2022. These companies have for the most part operated on a similar playbook: Spend huge sums to develop and run AI systems by hoarding top-of-the-line semiconductors and the energy supplies needed to run them.</p><p>Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg announced Friday that the company planned to spend $60 billion to $65 billion on projects related to AI this year, well above Wall Street estimates. Capital spending across all Big Tech firms is on pace to reach $200 billion in 2025, according to a Bloomberg Intelligence report. </p><p>Despite limited revenue to show for all their investment so far, markets have rewarded US tech stocks with record-high valuations, which have in turn generated historic wealth gains for their owners. Nvidia has stood out as the AI boom’s biggest single winner so far, with Huang’s net worth increasing almost eight-fold to $121 billion since the start of 2023 through Friday. Zuckerberg’s fortune soared 385% to $229 billion over the same period and Amazon.com Inc.’s Jeff Bezos gained 133% to $254 billion.</p><p>While Huang and Ellison suffered losses, other major tech billionaires’ fortunes escaped unscathed. Zuckerberg’s net worth ended the day up, gaining $4.3 billion as Meta rebounded from an early-session decline. Bezos’ wealth climbed by about $632 million.</p><h3 id=\"id_1401346313\">Capital Spending</h3><p>The fact that DeepSeek was able to develop a free model that potentially rivals or beats competitors including ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude at a fraction of the development cost led investors to question the logic behind Silicon Valley’s dependence on capital spending.</p><p>A key reason why DeepSeek didn’t rely on big investment and top-of-the-line chips to develop its model is that Chinese firms have had limited access to the powerful GPUs, or graphics processing units, most Western companies rely on ever since the US government instituted strict export controls on the most advanced chips.</p><p>In an interview with CNBC last week, Alexandr Wang, CEO of training data provider Scale AI, said that despite the export controls, DeepSeek and other Chinese developers likely have more GPUs than Silicon Valley is aware of.</p><p>“The Chinese labs have more H100s than people think,” Wang said, referring to Nvidia’s top-of-the-line AI chip. “My understanding is that DeepSeek has about 50,000 H100s, which they can’t talk about, obviously, because it’s against the export controls that the US has in place.”</p></body></html>","source":"bnn_bloomberg_highlight","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; And that was at a time when there were plenty of sell articles because Palantir was out of favor with investors. The consensus at the time was that the company was wildly overvalued, stock-based compensation (“SBC”) costs were far too high, and Palantir was pure hype.</p><p>Strangely enough, this sentiment changed after Palantir&#39;s strong run-up, and suddenly Palantir was hyped and there were many articles with buy recommendations. Unfortunately, only after the strong price increase. Recently and weeks, however, sentiment has shifted again, as the number of sell articles has once again far outnumbered the number of buy or hold articles.</p><p>And I can thoroughly understand anybody who made a killing on Palantir and wants to lock in their profits by selling because Palantir is a very volatile stock. At the same time, I believe that Palantir is far from reaching its full potential and that Palantir remains a buy for the long term. In 10 years, I think Palantir will be much bigger than it is today. I therefore maintain my buy recommendation, as I am investing for the long-term and short-term setbacks, which are highly probable, will not deter me from believing in long-term success.</p><h2 id=\"id_2655752067\">Palantir&#39;s Contracts</h2><p>Palantir&#39;s new contracts often receive a great deal of attention from the media. In December, for example, it was announced that the U.S. Army, which has been working with Palantir since 2018, had extended the partnership with a $600 million contract for four years. And for me, the fact that the world&#39;s best-equipped army has relied on Palantir for nearly 7 years is a testament to the quality of Palantir&#39;s work. Also in December, Palantir was announced as the lead software integrator for USSOCOM&#39;s Mission Command System.</p><p>Most importantly, on December 6, Palantir and Anduril announced a partnership to ensure the U.S. government is a leader in AI. In fact, this partnership has the plan to ensure that all government data collected can also be used to work with. If it works, which I expect it will, there will be a huge leap in efficiency and understanding of how the real world works. Only Palantir, in my opinion, can ensure that this highly confidential data is handled with the utmost care while delivering excellent results. This is one of the biggest competitive advantages that exists today.</p><p>And since it seems to me that military spending will increase rather than decrease in the future, Palantir should benefit. Especially since they have a unique position in that many governments and agencies work with them.</p><h2 id=\"id_1672647820\">What Does The Future Hold For PLTR?</h2><p>Whether Palantir underperforms the index this year is not relevant to me because I think in 5-year intervals. However, for people who have a more short-term investment style, the risk of short-term underperformance is obviously high. After such a strong rise in 2024, it will be difficult to continue it. After all, it is often the case that what goes up fast tends to come down fast as well.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/33c19c7b4ad7c1e7568f49a3987494c3\" alt=\"Data by YCharts\" title=\"Data by YCharts\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"424\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>Since Palantir hasn&#39;t been public long, there isn&#39;t much of a comparable period, but it&#39;s clear that the forward P/E ratio is lower than it was in early 2022. But right now, Palantir&#39;s multiple of 142x is slightly higher than the 121x average for the period. However, I strongly suspect that the forward P/E will soon fall back below 100x as sales increase.</p><p>The low of 25x in January 2023 was incredibly undervalued, and anyone who bought it was rightly rewarded with a fantastic return. But in retrospect, it always looks easy, and the fewest really bought it at that point because you could read negative things about Palantir almost everywhere. The emotional part was very difficult.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/eeb7353fe43c51595086eb9d87cf9b2d\" alt=\"Data by YCharts\" title=\"Data by YCharts\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"424\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>What I do not like currently, or what I do not find appropriate, is that the P/S multiple is often mentioned. Of course, it is very high, but Palantir is a company that generates real earnings, so why should you use the P/S multiple? That makes no sense to me. I think an analysis of earnings or cash flows is much more appropriate, and then also with a view to the future. Because what matters is where the cash flows will be in 5 years. Because if the cash flows in 5 years are significantly higher, even companies with exorbitant multiples can be undervalued.</p><p>Amazon (AMZN), Tesla (TSLA), Microsoft (MSFT), and many others were undervalued despite their high multiples because they simply had huge competitive advantages and were beating almost all estimates. And I think that also will be the case with Palantir because I see them in an extraordinary position. In order not to repeat too much of my old articles here, I recommend reading my two older articles if you are interested. But in short, Palantir has enormous barriers to entry through its customer relationships, security clearances, and the cost of switching is enormous because Palantir has become the heart of many operations. They also have a huge head start in terms of knowledge and insight that their competitors do not have.</p><h2 id=\"id_3528111710\">EPS Estimates</h2><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d25b3c8bda303eb5542942c48ace5295\" alt=\"Seeking Alpha Earnings Estimates\" title=\"Seeking Alpha Earnings Estimates\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"152\"/><span>Seeking Alpha Earnings Estimates</span></p><p>In contrast to my last article, the estimates have been raised. They are now at $0.38 for FY24 and $0.48 for FY25, up from $0.36 and $0.43. In addition, analyst estimates are starting to emerge for FY26 and beyond, and the current expectation is that EPS will exceed $1 for the first time in 2029. I think it will happen much sooner, and the market is still too pessimistic here.</p><p>I continue to believe that the $1 mark will be broken in 2026, possibly as early as 2025. And a nearly 60x 2026 P/E multiple for the best AI defense company seems reasonable to me. Unfortunately, quality comes at a price. And if Palantir were to hit $2 EPS by the end of FY29, a 60x multiple would be enough to double the stock and generate a near 15% annual return.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0eeba17e7826d20d7d9dde3b5ef639b0\" alt=\"Data by YCharts\" title=\"Data by YCharts\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"424\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>As you can see, Palantir&#39;s profit margin is trending up, and when we combine that with revenue that is likely to grow between 20% and 30% per year, EPS is going to grow rapidly over the coming years. I believe that the profit margin will continue to rise until 2029 and then will be more in the range of 35%+ and I also believe that the revenues will be above $10 billion per year. These are ambitious goals, but for Palantir to succeed, they must be achieved. Because to reach $2 EPS in 2029, Palantir would need to generate $4 billion in profits, as there are nearly 2 billion shares outstanding.</p><p>But with the competitive advantages and some of the best AI minds in the world, I believe Palantir can do it.</p><h2 id=\"id_3074549260\">Risks</h2><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d04ecc65a19de82adbad358843f1d8f5\" alt=\"Data by YCharts\" title=\"Data by YCharts\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"424\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>The biggest risk to my thesis is that Palantir continues to issue too many shares and does not start buying back shares on a larger scale in the near future. The more shares in circulation, the more profit the company needs to generate to reach $2 earnings per share in 2029. Ideally, shares outstanding will be pushed below 2 billion as FCF is used to reward shareholders.</p><h2 id=\"id_3883593475\">ARK Shed $15m In Shares</h2><p>The news that the ARK Innovation ETF (ARKF) has sold $15 million worth of shares of Palantir stock may have caused a bit of a sell-off in the stock. But I don&#39;t think you should read too much into it, especially considering when ARK sold most of its Nvidia (NVDA) shares. And secondly, $15 million is also minimal when you look at the amount of assets that ARK manages and the fact that the position still exists. They are just taking some profits, which is understandable after such a fantastic run in 2024.</p><p>Furthermore, I find that ARK has a good understanding of identifying future winners, but unfortunately, they have sold these partly too early. It is not without reason that one says that one should let his winners run because one is enough to compensate for all losses.</p><h2 id=\"id_2037474898\">Conclusion</h2><p>That companies like Alphabet (GOOG), Microsoft, or Apple (AAPL) could sustain annual growth rates exceeding 20% was often thought to be impossible, but they have done it. And I think Palantir is a company that belongs in that group and can deliver extraordinary growth rates over time. This means that I think the market still underestimates how much and how long Palantir can grow, which is why I think the company remains attractive for long-term investors. Over 5 to 10 years, earnings growth matters more than the entry multiple.</p><p>The multiple is high right now, but the earnings growth will more than makeup for it. And if Palantir does fall, it will give long-term investors a chance to get into the stock cheaper or buy more. Ideally, shares outstanding will be pushed below 2 billion as FCF is used to reward shareholders.ARK Shed $15m In SharesThe news that the ARK Innovation ETF (ARKF) has sold $15 million worth of shares of Palantir stock may have caused a bit of a sell-off in the stock. But I don't think you should read too much into it, especially considering when ARK sold most of its Nvidia (NVDA) shares. And secondly, $15 million is also minimal when you look at the amount of assets that ARK manages and the fact that the position still exists. They are just taking some profits, which is understandable after such a fantastic run in 2024.Furthermore, I find that ARK has a good understanding of identifying future winners, but unfortunately, they have sold these partly too early. It is not without reason that one says that one should let his winners run because one is enough to compensate for all losses.ConclusionThat companies like Alphabet (GOOG), Microsoft, or Apple (AAPL) could sustain annual growth rates exceeding 20% was often thought to be impossible, but they have done it. And I think Palantir is a company that belongs in that group and can deliver extraordinary growth rates over time. This means that I think the market still underestimates how much and how long Palantir can grow, which is why I think the company remains attractive for long-term investors. Over 5 to 10 years, earnings growth matters more than the entry multiple.The multiple is high right now, but the earnings growth will more than makeup for it. And if Palantir does fall, it will give long-term investors a chance to get into the stock cheaper or buy more. (NYSE:PLTR)</b>in May via put options.</p><p>Now that the software company has abandoned its 30% sales growth target indefinitely due to a slowdown in its core business, the stock is at risk of falling to my fair value target of $2.50. Palantir should be avoided because it is still grossly overvalued.</p><p><b>Fundamentally Unsound Business</b></p><p>Palantir&#39;snet losses were $101.4 million in 1Q-22. Palantir&#39;s net losses in 2Q-22 were $179.3 million, a 77% increase QoQ.</p><p>For quite some time, I have been concerned about Palantir&#39;s lack of underlying profitability and have stated here that Palantir is running a fundamentally unprofitable software business that appealed to investors primarily because of Palantir&#39;s reliance on government contracts.</p><p>Palantir&#39;s sales growth slowed further in the second quarter, posing a new problem for the company&#39;s overvalued software division. Palantir&#39;s sales in 2Q-22 were $473.0 million, up 26% YoY, as the software company gained more commercial customers. Having said that, I see no way for Palantir to generate profitable sales growth.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a3024cf5552db6b2d0f8ac06c875f38b\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"557\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Net Losses(Palantir Technologies)</p><p>I think Palantir is plagued by two major issues.</p><p>The first issue is that Palantir invests a lot of money in sales and marketing. Palantir&#39;s sales and marketing expenses accounted for 36% of sales dollars in 2Q-22, which is roughly in line with what the company has previously paid for sales growth.</p><p>Importantly, total operating expenses remained widely inflated at 87% (down from 88% in 1Q-22), making profit impossible for Palantir. The allocation of stock-based compensation remained a significant driver of Palantir&#39;s costs in the second quarter.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1680aa1718bd19424008138885b0a5dd\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"219\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Sales/Marketing And Total Operating Expenses(Author Created Table Using Quarterly Earnings Reports From Palantir Technologies)</p><p>Palantir allocated $145.8 million in stock-based compensation to its cost categories, with 92% going to operating expenses and 8% going to revenue costs.</p><p>Palantir&#39;s executive compensation has added $295.1 million to various expense categories year to date, which I consider generous given the company&#39;s total loss of $280.7 million. In other words, if not for stock-based compensation, Palantir would have made a net profit of $14.4 million this year.</p><p>The majority of executive compensation consists of long-term equity incentives (options, restricted stock units), so Palantir&#39;s management should be well compensated.</p><p>However, SBC compensation is not Palantir&#39;s only issue. Palantir&#39;s accumulated deficit as of June 30, 2022 was $5.77 billion, representing the company&#39;s lifetime losses. With such high historical losses, Palantir must still demonstrate that it has a viable business model that promises the benefits of scalability. Given Palantir&#39;s large loss base and high SBC, I don&#39;t believe the company would be an appealing acquisition target.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5734d09cb75fbf96e81a32fa59d584cc\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"252\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Stock-Based Compensation(Palantir Technologies)</p><p><b>Palantir Scraps Guidance Remains Hopelessly Overvalued</b></p><p>Palantir&#39;s new revenue forecast for 2022 is $1.9 billion, representing 23% YoY growth, and the software company is no longer predicting 30% annual sales growth. This is a significant departure from previous quarters, when investors emphasized Palantir&#39;s projected annual sales growth of 30%.</p><p>In my opinion, the software company has an indefensible sales multiple of 10x based on $1.9 billion in sales. I think the sales multiple is unjustifiable because Palantir has flawed fundamentals (inflated operating expenses), overpaid executives, and faces a slowing core consulting business.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/49dee2394d5e2e57f4a10043de8814bc\" tg-width=\"1280\" tg-height=\"802\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/>PLTR PS Ratiodata byYCharts</p><p><b>Change To My Short Position</b></p><p>I made a minor change to my Palantir short position by extending the expiration date of my puts from January 2023 to March 2023.</p><p>The longer duration of the put options reduces my capital risks while also giving Palantir&#39;s stock price more time to fall towards my $2.50 stock price target. My put options continue to have a strike price of $6.</p><p><b>Why Palantir Stock Could Increase</b></p><p>Palantir&#39;s guidance may have some upside in the sense that government sales may pick up towards the end of the year, and Palantir could, in theory, deliver better-than-expected sales growth if new contracts are signed with various government agencies.</p><p>With that said, I believe it is safe to say that the 30% growth target is effectively off the table for the time being, and investors must make do with potentially much lower growth rates in the future.</p><p>Because Palantir continues to incur higher net losses, I am not optimistic that the company will be profitable this year or next.</p><p><b>My Conclusion</b></p><p>Palantir&#39;s poor 2Q-22 business update makes it much more likely that PLTR will fall towards my $2.50 stock price target that I set for the software company in my last article on Palantir in May 2022. Palantir should be avoided because it is still grossly overvalued.Fundamentally Unsound BusinessPalantir'snet losses were $101.4 million in 1Q-22. Palantir's net losses in 2Q-22 were $179.3 million, a 77% increase QoQ.For quite some time, I have been concerned about Palantir's lack of underlying profitability and have stated here that Palantir is running a fundamentally unprofitable software business that appealed to investors primarily because of Palantir's reliance on government contracts.Palantir's sales growth slowed further in the second quarter, posing a new problem for the company's overvalued software division. Palantir's sales in 2Q-22 were $473.0 million, up 26% YoY, as the software company gained more commercial customers. Having said that, I see no way for Palantir to generate profitable sales growth.Net Losses(Palantir Technologies)I think Palantir is plagued by two major issues.The first issue is that Palantir invests a lot of money in sales and marketing. Palantir's sales and marketing expenses accounted for 36% of sales dollars in 2Q-22, which is roughly in line with what the company has previously paid for sales growth.Importantly, total operating expenses remained widely inflated at 87% (down from 88% in 1Q-22), making profit impossible for Palantir. The allocation of stock-based compensation remained a significant driver of Palantir's costs in the second quarter.Sales/Marketing And Total Operating Expenses(Author Created Table Using Quarterly Earnings Reports From Palantir Technologies)Palantir allocated $145.8 million in stock-based compensation to its cost categories, with 92% going to operating expenses and 8% going to revenue costs.Palantir's executive compensation has added $295.1 million to various expense categories year to date, which I consider generous given the company's total loss of $280.7 million. In other words, if not for stock-based compensation, Palantir would have made a net profit of $14.4 million this year.The majority of executive compensation consists of long-term equity incentives (options, restricted stock units), so Palantir's management should be well compensated.However, SBC compensation is not Palantir's only issue. Palantir's accumulated deficit as of June 30, 2022 was $5.77 billion, representing the company's lifetime losses. With such high historical losses, Palantir must still demonstrate that it has a viable business model that promises the benefits of scalability. This is a significant departure from previous quarters, when investors emphasized Palantir's projected annual sales growth of 30%.In my opinion, the software company has an indefensible sales multiple of 10x based on $1.9 billion in sales. I think the sales multiple is unjustifiable because Palantir has flawed fundamentals (inflated operating expenses), overpaid executives, and faces a slowing core consulting business.PLTR PS Ratiodata byYChartsChange To My Short PositionI made a minor change to my Palantir short position by extending the expiration date of my puts from January 2023 to March 2023.The longer duration of the put options reduces my capital risks while also giving Palantir's stock price more time to fall towards my $2.50 stock price target. My put options continue to have a strike price of $6.Why Palantir Stock Could IncreasePalantir's guidance may have some upside in the sense that government sales may pick up towards the end of the year, and Palantir could, in theory, deliver better-than-expected sales growth if new contracts are signed with various government agencies.With that said, I believe it is safe to say that the 30% growth target is effectively off the table for the time being, and investors must make do with potentially much lower growth rates in the future.Because Palantir continues to incur higher net losses, I am not optimistic that the company will be profitable this year or next.My ConclusionPalantir's poor 2Q-22 business update makes it much more likely that PLTR will fall towards my $2.50 stock price target that I set for the software company in my last article on Palantir in May 2022. That delivered a serious blow to billionaires whose fortunes are tied to the Western AI supply chain that’s been the equities market’s biggest driver over the past two years.</p><h3 id=\"id_2361236393\">Similar Playbook</h3><p>Soaring valuations for so-called AI hyperscalers — including Meta Platforms Inc., Alphabet Inc. and Microsoft Corp. — have generated billions in wealth for their owners since OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT in November 2022. Zuckerberg’s net worth ended the day up, gaining $4.3 billion as Meta rebounded from an early-session decline. Bezos’ wealth climbed by about $632 million.</p><h3 id=\"id_1401346313\">Capital Spending</h3><p>The fact that DeepSeek was able to develop a free model that potentially rivals or beats competitors including ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude at a fraction of the development cost led investors to question the logic behind Silicon Valley’s dependence on capital spending.</p><p>A key reason why DeepSeek didn’t rely on big investment and top-of-the-line chips to develop its model is that Chinese firms have had limited access to the powerful GPUs, or graphics processing units, most Western companies rely on ever since the US government instituted strict export controls on the most advanced chips.</p><p>In an interview with CNBC last week, Alexandr Wang, CEO of training data provider Scale AI, said that despite the export controls, DeepSeek and other Chinese developers likely have more GPUs than Silicon Valley is aware of.</p><p>“The Chinese labs have more H100s than people think,” Wang said, referring to Nvidia’s top-of-the-line AI chip. “My understanding is that DeepSeek has about 50,000 H100s, which they can’t talk about, obviously, because it’s against the export controls that the US has in place.”</p></body></html>","source":"bnn_bloomberg_highlight","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Dell Inc.’s Michael Dell lost $13 billion, and Binance Holdings Ltd. co-founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao shaved $12.1 billion.Tech-sector titans as a group saw $94 billion of wealth evaporate — roughly 85% of the Bloomberg index’s total decline.
