Trump 2.0: Worst Stock Market Start in 75 Years—Comeback or Crisis?

Trump’s second term is off to a rough start on Wall Street, marking one of the worst first 50 days for any U.S. president since 1950.

According to Sundial Capital Research strategist Jason Goepfert, the S&P 500 has dropped about 6.4% since Trump 2.0 took office. Only two presidents had a worse start: Richard Nixon (-7.2%) and George W. Bush (-13.6%).

For comparison, the best-performing presidents in their first 50 days were John F. Kennedy (+9.4%), Barack Obama (+5.7%), and Bill Clinton (+4.2%).

While stock market performance isn’t always tied directly to politics, in this case, market volatility seems to be reflecting investor concerns—especially over tariffs and trade policies.

With Q1 of 2025 now in the books, where do you think the market is headed next? A dramatic rebound or more rollercoaster swings?

And what’s your take on Trump 2.0—any bold moves or surprises you expect next? 🚀📉

FOMC Decision: Are 3 Rate Cuts Still Possible This Year?
Currently, the market widely expects the FOMC to keep the federal funds rate target range unchanged at 4.25%–4.50% in this week’s policy meeting. Last Friday’s stronger-than-expected April nonfarm payroll data has given the Fed more room to hold steady. The market is still pricing in roughly 75 basis points of rate cuts this year—equivalent to three 25-basis-point cuts. But is the market being too optimistic? If rate cut expectations shift again, could the market come under pressure once more? As the broader market begins to pull back, what impact will this week’s FOMC meeting have?
