JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Wells Fargo report on Oct. 13, followed by Morgan Stanley and Bank of America on Oct. 14.

Higher rates can be good for banks — They can lift loan yields and support net interest income. But they also raise funding costs, slow borrowing and put more pressure on consumers and businesses.

Earning Highlight

  • First, net interest income. Can higher loan yields still outweigh rising deposit and funding costs?

  • Second, investment banking and trading.M&A and IPO activity has been improving, but the recovery is uneven. JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley have sounded relatively upbeat, while Bank of America has warned of softer investment-banking fees.

  • Third, credit quality.Investors will be watching credit-card delinquencies, loan-loss provisions and consumer loan growth for signs that higher rates are starting to bite.

CPI tonight: why is the market waiting in narrow ranges?
U.S. stocks drifted Tuesday: S&P 500 fell 0.02% to 7,805.45, Nasdaq-100 (QQQ) down 0.33% to $743.57. Markets await September CPI at 8:30 a.m. ET—expected 3.6% year-on-year (prior 3.4%), core CPI forecast 0.2% monthly (prior 0.3%). Fed official Warsh will meet IMF President Georgieva at the annual meeting Friday. If core inflation cools and Warsh signals dovish tilt, stocks and bonds gain; if year-on-year expectations rise from 3.4% to 3.6% again, rate expectations tighten. Which CPI line unsettles you more tonight — the 3.6% headline or the 0.2% core?

🌟🌟🌟I believe that $Goldman Sachs(GS)$ share price will pop the most post earnings.  Why?  It stole the limelight reporting an EPS of USD 17.01, absolutely crushing the USD 13.02 estimate.  This is a huge 31% higher than expected.

Goldman Sachs revenue came in at USD 18.68 billion, soundly beating the anticipated USD 16.71 billion, up 12%.

Goldman Sachs played its core strength which is equities trading, performing flawlessly & thriving off the back of recent market volatility.

David Solomon, Goldman Sachs CEO has done an excellent job.   By pivoting the bank back to its historic bread and butter roots which is investment banking & elite trading desks, this monster 31% earnings beat serves as the ultimate validation of his turnaround strategy.

    My vote: Citigroup (C).

Citi looks like the most interesting upside candidate this earnings round. Expectations already point to strong YoY profit growth, but the bigger question is whether its restructuring can finally deliver better operating efficiency and sustainable returns.

JPMorgan remains the quality leader, but Citi may have more room to surprise if revenue growth, cost discipline and credit quality all hold up. With bank valuations pressured by higher Treasury yields, a convincing earnings beat plus solid guidance could produce a stronger market reaction.

I’m watching NII, expenses, credit provisions and management’s outlook most closely.

I am keeping a close eye on $JPMorgan Chase(JPM)$ and $Goldman Sachs(GS)$ this earnings season. Both have strong market positions and could benefit from improving trading activity and investment banking demand. If I had to pick one potential winner, I would lean towards JPMorgan because of its diversified business and solid overall banking franchise.

However, I will be watching net interest income and credit quality closely. Higher interest rates can support loan yields, but rising funding costs and credit-card delinquencies could put pressure on earnings. I believe the banks that manage these challenges well will stand out.

For me, JPMorgan is my top pick, but I will not judge the results by headline earnings alone. Forward guidance, management commentary and credit-loss trends matter just as much. I prefer to stay disciplined and focus on sustainable growth rather than chase short-term market excitement.

’d vote $JPM (JPMorgan Chase). 📈 It has a strong diversified business across consumer banking, investment banking and markets, so I’m watching whether earnings and guidance can hold up despite higher Treasury yields.
