Fueled by increasing demand for its graphics processing units (GPUs) used for artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing, Nvidia stock has soared roughly 90% so far in 2023, easily eclipsing the 8% gains of the S&P 500 during the same period. But at least one analyst thinks this could be just the beginning.HSBC analyst Frank Lee issued a rare double upgrade on Nvidia stock to buy from reduce (which is similar to a sell rating), while more than doubling his 12-month price target to $355, up from $175. That target represents potential gains for investors of roughly 30% compared to Monday's closing price. Is Nvidia stock really that compelling, particularly in light of its recent gains? Since OpenAI introduced ChatGPT in late November, the public has been mesmerized by advances in generative AI, which made the conversational chatbot the belle of the ball. Further fueling the fervor was an announcement that Microsoft, which had already invested $3 billion in OpenAI, was extending its partnership with a further investment of $10 billion, while also integrating ChatGPT into its Bing search engine. The next phase of AI development could represent a massive opportunity. In fact, Cathie Wood's Ark Investment Management has done some calculations and estimates that AI software could represent a $14 trillion revenue opportunity by 2030. So what does this have to do with Nvidia? Its GPUs are the industry standard for AI. It takes a great deal of computational horsepower to run the multitude of mathematical calculations necessary to train and operate these AI systems, and Nvidia semiconductors are best-in-class. Lee admitted to being “shocked” by Nvidia’s unparalleled pricing power in the AI chip market and argued that that opportunity makes up for his previous concerns about Nvidia’s slowing demand for data center chips and rising inventories. Furthermore, Lee issued a rare mea culpa, admitting that he was initially \"too cautious\" on Nvidia, and now says that the company's AI opportunity is not fully priced into the shares.He may be on to something. Nvidia's management estimates its total addressable market at roughly $1 trillion. While investors generally take those forecasts with a grain of salt, it helps to illustrate why Wall Street is increasingly optimistic about Nvidia's prospects. It's not just Lee that's bullish. Over the past month, Nvidia has been on the receiving end of 14 price target increases and two upgrades as Wall Street becomes increasingly more bullish on the company's future prospects. In fact, every one of those analysts cited the growing opportunity afforded by AI as the primary reason for their increasing optimism. Is Nvidia stock a buy?The long-term opportunity and increasing adoption of AI will certainly act as a catalyst to fuel Nvidia's future growth. But is the stock a buy? Nvidia has never been cheap, and the stock is currently selling for 18 times next year's sales, when a reasonable price-to-sales ratio is between 1 and 2.Furthermore, the company is currently dealing with macroeconomic headwinds that could get worse over the short term, particularly if the economy slips into a recession. The quick onset of the downturn and the rapid sales decline of Nvidia's gaming chips have persisted for several months. In its 2023 fourth quarter (which ended Jan. 29), revenue in the company's gaming segment was down 46% year over year, its third consecutive quarter of sales declines. The news isn't all bad. CEO Jensen Huang suggested the worst might be over. \"Gaming is recovering from the post-pandemic downturn, with gamers enthusiastically embracing the new Ada architecture GPUs with AI neural rendering,\" he said in the company's earnings press release in February. He went on to extoll the opportunity presented by AI: \"AI is at an inflection point, setting up for broad adoption reaching into every industry,\" Huang said. \"From start-ups to major enterprises, we are seeing accelerated interest in the versatility and capabilities of generative AI.\"While the stock certainly isn't the screaming buy it was just a few months ago, Nvidia's future remains bright. Patient investors might want to wait for an opportunity to buy the dip. Those that buy now will need to do so with the intention of holding for three to five years, as Nvidia will need time to live up to its currently lofty valuation.Nvidia has been a stellar performer over the past five years, gaining 371%. Fueled by increasing demand for its graphics processing units (GPUs) used for artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing, Nvidia stock has soared roughly 90% so far in 2023, easily eclipsing the 8% gains of the S&P 500 during the same period. But at least one analyst thinks this could be just the beginning.HSBC analyst Frank Lee issued a rare double upgrade on Nvidia stock to buy from reduce (which is similar to a sell rating), while more than doubling his 12-month price target to $355, up from $175. That target represents potential gains for investors of roughly 30% compared to Monday's closing price. Is Nvidia stock really that compelling, particularly in light of its recent gains? Image source: Nvidia.The path to $355In justifying his enthusiasm, Lee cited the growing opportunity in AI. Since OpenAI introduced ChatGPT in late November, the public has been mesmerized by advances in generative AI, which made the conversational chatbot the belle of the ball. Further fueling the fervor was an announcement that Microsoft, which had already invested $3 billion in OpenAI, was extending its partnership with a further investment of $10 billion, while also integrating ChatGPT into its Bing search engine. The next phase of AI development could represent a massive opportunity. In fact, Cathie Wood's Ark Investment Management has done some calculations and estimates that AI software could represent a $14 trillion revenue opportunity by 2030. So what does this have to do with Nvidia? Its GPUs are the industry standard for AI. It takes a great deal of computational horsepower to run the multitude of mathematical calculations necessary to train and operate these AI systems, and Nvidia semiconductors are best-in-class. Lee admitted to being “shocked” by Nvidia’s unparalleled pricing power in the AI chip market and argued that that opportunity makes up for his previous concerns about Nvidia’s slowing demand for data center chips and rising inventories. Furthermore, Lee issued a rare mea culpa, admitting that he was initially \"too cautious\" on Nvidia, and now says that the company's AI opportunity is not fully priced into the shares.He may be on to something. Nvidia's management estimates its total addressable market at roughly $1 trillion. While investors generally take those forecasts with a grain of salt, it helps to illustrate why Wall Street is increasingly optimistic about Nvidia's prospects. It's not just Lee that's bullish. Over the past month, Nvidia has been on the receiving end of 14 price target increases and two upgrades as Wall Street becomes increasingly more bullish on the company's future prospects. In fact, every one of those analysts cited the growing opportunity afforded by AI as the primary reason for their increasing optimism. Is Nvidia stock a buy?The long-term opportunity and increasing adoption of AI will certainly act as a catalyst to fuel Nvidia's future growth. But is the stock a buy? Nvidia has never been cheap, and the stock is currently selling for 18 times next year's sales, when a reasonable price-to-sales ratio is between 1 and 2.Furthermore, the company is currently dealing with macroeconomic headwinds that could get worse over the short term, particularly if the economy slips into a recession. The quick onset of the downturn and the rapid sales decline of Nvidia's gaming chips have persisted for several months. In its 2023 fourth quarter (which ended Jan. 29), revenue in the company's gaming segment was down 46% year over year, its third consecutive quarter of sales declines. The news isn't all bad. CEO Jensen Huang suggested the worst might be over. \"Gaming is recovering from the post-pandemic downturn, with gamers enthusiastically embracing the new Ada architecture GPUs with AI neural rendering,\" he said in the company's earnings press release in February. He went on to extoll the opportunity presented by AI: \"AI is at an inflection point, setting up for broad adoption reaching into every industry,\" Huang said. \"From start-ups to major enterprises, we are seeing accelerated interest in the versatility and capabilities of generative AI.\"While the stock certainly isn't the screaming buy it was just a few months ago, Nvidia's future remains bright. Patient investors might want to wait for an opportunity to buy the dip. Those that buy now will need to do so with the intention of holding for three to five years, as Nvidia will need time to live up to its currently lofty valuation.Nvidia has been a stellar performer over the past five years, gaining 371%. Given the tailwinds provided by AI, as well as the company's existing gaming and data center businesses, I don't think it's a matter of if Nvidia stock hits $355 per share, but when. Things have been even more challenging for the tech-driven Nasdaq Composite, which has shed as much as 24% since its November peak and was firmly in a bear market as of early last week.But where there's short-term pain, there's also an opportunity for long-term gains. That's because every stock market correction and bear market has eventually been wiped away by a bull market rally. When you invest in innovative stocks at a discount and allow your investment thesis to play out over time, there's a good chance you'll build wealth.Image source: Getty Images.The following three surefire stocks are all trading at a discount during the market sell-off and have both the catalysts and intangibles necessary to turn a $200,000 investment into $1 million by 2030.NioThe first innovative company that has the potential to quintuple investors' money over the next eight years is China-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Nio.Although supply chain concerns are never a positive, the important thing to note here is that Nio's near-term struggles have absolutely nothing to do with demand. This means opportunistic investors have the chance to buy this innovative EV maker at a substantial discount to its all-time high.Nio's innovation comes in two forms. The first is readily apparent: its introduction of new vehicles. For example, the company's ET7 and ET5 sedans offer up to 621 miles of range with the top battery option. These sedans are direct competitors to Tesla's flagship sedans, the Model S and Model 3, and provide superior range (again, with the battery upgrade). China is the world's leading auto market, which gives Nio a large runway with which to gobble up market share with its premium sedans and SUVs.The other way Nio is innovating is with its service. In August 2020, the company introduced its battery-as-a-service (BaaS) subscription, which allows its EV buyers to charge, swap, or upgrade their batteries. Enrollment in BaaS also provides a discount on the purchase price of a Nio EV. Despite giving up some near-term sales with BaaS, Nio locks in long-term subscription revenue and the loyalty of its early buyers.Based on Wall Street's fluid forecast, Nio is on track to quadruple its sales by 2024, as well as turn the corner to recurring profitability. By 2023, most of the company's supply chain issues should be in the rearview mirror. That makes it a good bet to turn deliver 400% returns for shareholders by 2030.Image source: Getty Images.Upstart HoldingsA second surefire stock that can deliver jaw-dropping sales and profit growth throughout the remainder of the decade is cloud-based lending platform Upstart Holdings.The big knock against Upstart is that historically high inflation in the U.S. is coercing the nation's central bank to get aggressive with interest rate hikes. As a lending-based service, there's obvious concern that higher interest rates will dramatically slow loan-processing activity, which would be bad news for the company.But Upstart has a few tricks up its sleeve. To begin with, its lending platform relies on artificial intelligence (AI). Whereas the traditional loan-vetting process can take weeks, approximately 70% of Upstart's loan applicants are fully automated and approved on the spot.  This helps save lending institutions time and money.What's interesting is that Upstart's AI-powered lending platform is helping to democratize loan access without adversely impacting lending institutions. Even though the average credit score of Upstart's approvals is lower than the average credit score of traditional loan approvals, there's been no difference in delinquency rates. As interest rates rise and the sheer number of loan applications to process declines, it's likely we'll see banks turn to Upstart even more than they are now given the success of its AI-driven lending platform.Something else investors should note is that Upstart has no credit exposure and generated 94% of its revenue from fees and services. This means if a recession does strike and loan delinquencies rise, Upstart doesn't have to set aside capital to cover loan losses.Looking a bit further out, Upstart should also benefit from its push into AI-based auto lending. The auto loan origination market is over seven times larger than the personal loan market it's been focused on for years. Upstart is in the very early innings of what should be sustained rapid growth.Image source: Pinterest.PinterestThe third surefire stock that can turn a $200,000 investment into a cool $1 million by 2030 is social media company Pinterest.The pandemic has sent Pinterest on a roller-coaster ride. It initially soared on big user gains, with people stuck in their homes during the initial stages of the pandemic. But since the end of March 2021, declines in monthly active user (MAU) figures have left Wall Street skeptical of Pinterest's future. To add, there's also concern that Apple's iOS privacy changes, which allow app users to turn off data tracking, could inhibit ad-driven businesses like Pinterest.However, neither of these near-term headwinds should be fazing long-term investors. For example, even though Pinterest's total MAUs have declined from a peak of 478 million to 433 million over the past year, panning out four or five years shows a steady uptrend in total MAUs. In other words, the MAU decline in recent quarters is simply user growth retracing back to historic norms following the unsustainable pandemic-related boost.Additionally, regardless of whether MAUs have increased or declined on a year-over-year basis, Pinterest hasn't had any trouble monetizing its user base. The latest quarter, which featured 45 million fewer MAUs than the same quarter last year, saw global average revenue per user (ARPU) climb 28%, with European ARPU up an even more impressive 40%.  This demonstrates that merchants are willing to pay a premium to reach Pinterest's user base. It also clearly suggests that international markets are where Pinterest's greatest opportunity lies.Apple's iOS privacy changes aren't much to worry about, either. While other social media platforms have some guesswork to do in order to help advertisers target users, the entire premise of Pinterest's platform is for users to freely and willingly share the things, places, and services that interest them. The new target is 31.5% below current levels.</p><p>One reason for the bearishness is that what he&#39;s seeing regarding refreshed Model Y demand, such as wait times and remaining, older Model Y inventory, is negative. That leads him to believe upcoming deliveries data is headed for &#34;a sizable miss.&#34;</p><p>Jewsikow now expects Tesla to report first-quarter deliveries of 358,000 EVs, which compares with the average estimate of Wall Street analysts surveyed by FactSet of 430,000.</p><p>He&#39;s also bearish because of all the &#34;political noise&#34; surrounding Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk, given his close ties with President Donald Trump, and his running of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, which has been slashing jobs and government programs.</p><p>That has led to a growing number of protests against Musk and his car company.</p><p>&#34;At a minimum these protests are likely having an adverse impact on store traffic, and could be impacting consumers&#39; willingness to buy,&#34; Jewsikow wrote. &#34;While the protests could prove fleeting, we believe that protests and partisanship are having an impact on demand, a change from our prior belief that politics were not having an impact on sales.&#34;</p><p>He&#39;s also concerned about declining profitability on the EVs that are sold, as there are signs that consumer demand is becoming more sensitive to price, which labeled demand elasticity.</p><p>Jewsikow said the 1.2% increase in prices in the first quarter resulted in a 26% decline in demand, which puts demand elasticity at its worst levels since the EV price wars of 2023.</p><p>He is expecting quarterly price cuts of 2% for the rest of 2025 but doesn&#39;t believe that will be enough to lead to delivery-volume growth.</p><p>There is also concern that one big expected positive catalyst, the launch of a commercial robotaxi fleet in the next few months, will be &#34;underwhelming&#34; in terms of scope.</p><p>&#34;While we appreciate excitement around robotaxis, we believe the stock is reaching a breaking point, where numbers start to matter - based on our current model [Tesla] has little room left to reduce price before [free cash flow] flips negative,&#34;
