Chopard, Patek Philippe, and Cartier in its portfolio.</p><p>THG derives its revenue principally from Southeast Asia and North Asia, hence the business should be relatively insulated from the tariffs.</p><p>Moreover, the luxury timepiece industry is also less sensitive to price increases as most of these watches have a high price tag.</p><p>For the first half of fiscal 2025 (1H FY2025) ending 30 September 2024, THG saw total revenue dip 3% year on year to S$548.8 million.</p><p>The fall was because of a moderation in demand from the end of the pandemic.</p><p>Net profit for 1H FY2025 fell 20% year on year to S$61.4 million.</p><p>Despite the lower profits, THG continued to churn out a healthy free cash flow of S$39.4 million, just 2% lower than the S$40.1 million generated in 1H FY2024.</p><p>The luxury watch retailer kept its interim dividend constant at S$0.02 per share.</p><p>Earlier this month, THG purchased an Australian company, SPV, for around A$90 million, to expand its presence in Australia and strengthen the group’s retail footprint.</p><h2 id=\"id_301030841\">iFAST Corporation (SGX: AIY)</h2><p>iFAST is a financial technology company operating a platform for the buying and selling of unit trusts, equities, and bonds.</p><p>The group reported a sterling set of earnings for 2024 as it enjoyed net inflows of S$3.3 billion for the year, pushing its assets under administration (AUA) to a new record of S$25.01 billion as of 31 December 2024.</p><p>Net revenue for last year rose 53.6% year on year to S$248.4 million while operating profit more than doubled year on year to S$84.6 million, driven by strong contributions from the group’s Hong Kong ePension contract.</p><p>Net profit stood at S$66.6 million for 2024, 136% higher than the S$28.3 million recorded for 2023.</p><p>The fintech raised its total 2024 dividend to S$0.059, 23% higher than the S$0.048 paid out a year ago.</p><p>Looking ahead, the group expects to enjoy further progress in its various business divisions.</p><p>Management expects iFAST’s AUA to continue posting healthy growth, which will drive improvements in revenue and profitability.</p><p>The Hong Kong ePension division should also see more growth as onboarding rates continue, and the group expects to enjoy robust growth in profitability.</p><p>With higher profits, there is also a good chance that iFAST can continue to raise its dividends.</p><h2 id=\"id_1444533181\">Singapore Technologies Engineering (SGX: S63)</h2><p>Singapore Technologies Engineering, or STE, is a technology, defence and engineering group serving customers in the aerospace, smart city, defence, and public security sectors.</p><p>The blue-chip group reported a strong set of earnings for 2024 with revenue rising 11.6% year on year to S$11.3 billion.</p><p>Operating profit climbed 17.7% year on year to S$1.1 billion while net profit shot up 20% year on year to S$702.3 million.</p><p>In line with the good results, STE raised its final dividend from S$0.04 last year to S$0.05, culminating in a total 2024 dividend of S$0.17, up one cent from S$0.16 a year ago.</p><p>The engineering giant snagged a total of S$12.6 billion in new contracts last year, which pushed its order book to S$28.5 billion as of 31 December 2024.</p><p>STE shared its strategic plans and goals during its recent Investor Day 2025.</p><p>The group intends to steadily increase its revenue over the next five years while adopting a progressive dividend policy.</p><p>For 2025, STE anticipates paying out a total dividend of S$0.18, one cent above 2024’s dividend.</p><p>From 2026 onwards, the group plans to pay out around one-third of its year-on-year increase in net profit as incremental dividends.</p><h2 id=\"id_2683685295\">Raffles Medical Group (SGX: BSL)</h2><p>Raffles Medical Group, or RMG, is an integrated healthcare player operating in 14 cities within five countries.</p><p>The group’s network includes four hospitals and over 100 multi-disciplinary clinics offering a broad range of healthcare and health screening services.</p><p>RMG reported a mixed set of earnings for 2024 as its COVID-19 boost tailed off.</p><p>Revenue rose 6.3% year on year to S$751.6 million but operating profit tumbled 28.7% year on year to S$82.5 million.</p><p>Net profit plunged 31% year on year to S$62.2 million.</p><p>The integrated healthcare player also generated a positive free cash flow of S$65.3 million for 2024.</p><p>Despite the fall in net profit, RMG declared a slightly higher final dividend of S$0.025, up from S$0.024 last year.</p><p>For 2025, the group plans to embrace automation to boost its efficiency.</p><p>RMG significantly upgraded its laboratory capabilities by implementing a custom-built laboratory information system.</p><p>CEO Dr Loo Choon Yong also expects the group’s China hospitals to break even in one to two years, which would be another positive catalyst for the can allow them to withstand these headwinds.Income investors should also rest assured that these stocks can at least maintain, or may even increase their dividends.Here are four stocks that fit this bill that you may wish to add to your buy watchlist.The Hour Glass (SGX: AGS)The Hour Glass, or THG, is a leading specialist watch retailer with 65 boutiques across 14 cities.The group features famous Swiss watch brands such as Rolex, Hublot, Chopard, Patek Philippe, and Cartier in its portfolio.THG derives its revenue principally from Southeast Asia and North Asia, hence the business should be relatively insulated from the tariffs.Moreover, the luxury timepiece industry is also less sensitive to price increases as most of these watches have a high price tag.For the first half of fiscal 2025 (1H FY2025) ending 30 September 2024, THG saw total revenue dip 3% year on year to S$548.8 million.The fall was because of a moderation in demand from the end of the pandemic.Net profit for 1H FY2025 fell 20% year on year to S$61.4 million.Despite the lower profits, THG continued to churn out a healthy free cash flow of S$39.4 million, just 2% lower than the S$40.1 million generated in 1H FY2024.The luxury watch retailer kept its interim dividend constant at S$0.02 per share.Earlier this month, THG purchased an Australian company, SPV, for around A$90 million, to expand its presence in Australia and strengthen the group’s retail footprint.iFAST Corporation (SGX: AIY)iFAST is a financial technology company operating a platform for the buying and selling of unit trusts, equities, and bonds.The group reported a sterling set of earnings for 2024 as it enjoyed net inflows of S$3.3 billion for the year, pushing its assets under administration (AUA) to a new record of S$25.01 billion as of 31 December 2024.Net revenue for last year rose 53.6% year on year to S$248.4 million while operating profit more than doubled year on year to S$84.6 million, driven by strong contributions from the group’s Hong Kong ePension contract.Net profit stood at S$66.6 million for 2024, 136% higher than the S$28.3 million recorded for 2023.The fintech raised its total 2024 dividend to S$0.059, 23% higher than the S$0.048 paid out a year ago.Looking ahead, the group expects to enjoy further progress in its various business divisions.Management expects iFAST’s AUA to continue posting healthy growth, which will drive improvements in revenue and profitability.The Hong Kong ePension division should also see more growth as onboarding rates continue, and the group expects to enjoy robust growth in profitability.With higher profits, there is also a good chance that iFAST can continue to raise its dividends.Singapore Technologies Engineering (SGX: S63)Singapore Technologies Engineering, or STE, is a technology, defence and engineering group serving customers in the aerospace, smart city, defence, and public security sectors.The blue-chip group reported a strong set of earnings for 2024 with revenue rising 11.6% year on year to S$11.3 billion.Operating profit climbed 17.7% year on year to S$1.1 billion while net profit shot up 20% year on year to S$702.3 million.In line with the good results, STE raised its final dividend from S$0.04 last year to S$0.05, culminating in a total 2024 dividend of S$0.17, up one cent from S$0.16 a year ago.The engineering giant snagged a total of S$12.6 billion in new contracts last year, which pushed its order book to S$28.5 billion as of 31 December 2024.STE shared its strategic plans and goals during its recent Investor Day 2025.The group intends to steadily increase its revenue over the next five years while adopting a progressive dividend policy.For 2025, STE anticipates paying out a total dividend of S$0.18, one cent above 2024’s dividend.From 2026 onwards, the group plans to pay out around one-third of its year-on-year increase in net profit as incremental dividends.Raffles Medical Group (SGX: BSL)Raffles Medical Group, or RMG, is an integrated healthcare player operating in 14 cities within five countries.The group’s network includes four hospitals and over 100 multi-disciplinary clinics offering a broad range of healthcare and health screening services.RMG reported a mixed set of earnings for 2024 as its COVID-19 boost tailed off.Revenue rose 6.3% year on year to S$751.6 million but operating profit tumbled 28.7% year on year to S$82.5 million.Net profit plunged 31% year on year to S$62.2 million.The integrated healthcare player also generated a positive free cash flow of S$65.3 million for 2024.Despite the fall in net profit, RMG declared a slightly higher final dividend of S$0.025, up from S$0.024 last year.For 2025, the group plans to embrace automation to boost its efficiency.RMG significantly upgraded its laboratory capabilities by implementing a custom-built laboratory information system.CEO Dr Loo Choon Yong also expects the group’s China hospitals to break even in one to two years, which would be another positive catalyst for the S&amp;P 500,Nasdaq&nbsp;Composite&nbsp;and the Dow Jones Industrial Average.</p>\n<p>Does that make chip stocks a buy? Or is this historically cyclical sector up to its old tricks and headed into a sustained downtrend that will rip your face off.</p>\n<p>A lot depends on your timeline but if you like to own stocks for years rather than rent them for days, the group is a buy. The chief reason: “It’s different this time.”</p>\n<p>Those are admittedly among the scariest words in investing. But the chip sector has changed so much it really is different now – in ways that suggest it is less likely to crush you.</p>\n<p>You’d be a fool to think there are no risks. I’ll go over those. But first, here are the three main reasons why the group is “safer” now – and six names favored by the half-dozen sector experts I’ve talked with over the past several days.</p>\n<p><b>1. The wicked witch of cyclicality is dead</b></p>\n<p>“Demand in the chip sector was always boom and bust, driven by product cycles,” says David Winborne, a portfolio manager at Impax Asset Management. “<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/FBNC\">First</a> PCs, then servers, then phones.” But now demand for chips has broadened across the economy so the secular growth story is more predictable, he says.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/JE\">Just</a> look around you. Because of the increased “digitalization” of our lives and work, there’s greater diversity of end market demand from all angles. Think remote office services like <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ZM\">Zoom</a>, online shopping, cloud services, electric vehicles, 5G phones, smart factories, big data computing and even washing machines, points out Hendi Susanto, a portfolio manager and tech analyst at Gabelli Funds who is bullish on the group.</p>\n<p>“There is no aspect of the modern digital economy that can function without semiconductors,” says Motley Fool chip sector analyst John Rotonti. “That means more chips going into everything. The long-term demand is there.”</p>\n<p>He’s not kidding. Chip sector revenue will double by 2030 to $1 trillion from $465 billion in 2020, predicts William&nbsp;Blair&nbsp;analyst Greg Scolaro.</p>\n<p>All of this means the widespread supply shortages you’ve been hearing about “likely won’t be cured until sometime late next year,” says <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/BAC\">Bank of America</a> chip sector analyst Vivek Arya. “That’s not just our view, but <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> confirmed by a majority of large customers.”</p>\n<p><b>2. The players have consolidated</b></p>\n<p>All up and down the production chain, from design through the various types of equipment producers to manufacturing, industry players have consolidated down into what Rotonti calls “earned” duopolies or monopolies.</p>\n<p>In chip design software, you have Cadence Design Systems&nbsp;and Synopsys.In production equipment, companies dominate specialized niches like ASML&nbsp;in extreme ultraviolet lithography&nbsp;(EUV). Manufacturing is dominated by Taiwan Semiconductor&nbsp;and Samsung Electronics.</p>\n<p>These companies earned their niche or duopoly status by being the best at what they do. This makes them interesting for investors. The consolidation also means players behave more rationally in terms of pricing and production capacity, says Rotonti.</p>\n<p><b>3. Profitability has improved</b></p>\n<p>This more rational behavior, combined with cost cutting, means profitability is now much higher than it was historically. “The economics of chip making has improved massively over past few years,” says Winbourne. Cash flow or EBITDA margins are often now over 30% whereas a decade ago they were in the 20% range.</p>\n<p>This has implications for valuation. Though chip stocks trade at about a market multiple, they appear cheap because they are better companies, points out Lamar Villere, portfolio manager with Villere &amp; Co. “They are not trading at a frothy multiple.”</p>\n<p><b>The stocks to buy</b></p>\n<p>Here are six names favored by chip experts I recently checked in with.</p>\n<p><b>New management plays</b></p>\n<p>Though Peter Karazeris, a senior equity research analyst at Thrivent, has reasons to be cautious on the group (see below), he singles out two companies whose performance may get a boost because they are under new management: Qualcomm&nbsp;and ON Semiconductor.</p>\n<p>Both have solid profitability. Qualcomm was recently hit by one-off issues like bad weather in Texas that disrupted production, but the company has good exposure to the 5G phone trend. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ON\">ON Semiconductor</a> is expanding beyond phones into new areas like autos, industrial and the Internet of Things connected-device space.</p>\n<p><b>A data center and gaming play</b></p>\n<p>Karazeris also singles out Nvidia,which gets a continuing boost from its exposure to data center and gaming device chip demand — because of its superior design prowess.</p>\n<p><b>Design tool companies</b></p>\n<p>Speaking of design, when companies like Qualcomm and NVIDIA want to design chips, they turn to the design tools supplied by Cadence Design Systems and <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/SNPS\">Synopsys</a>.</p>\n<p>Their software-based design tools help chip innovators create the blueprint for their chips, explains Rotonti at Motley Fool, who singles out these names. “They are not the fastest growers in the world, but they have good profit margins.” They also dominate the space.</p>\n<p><b>An EUV&nbsp;play</b></p>\n<p>To put those blueprints onto silicon in the early stages of chip production, companies like Taiwan Semiconductor and Samsung turn to ASML. Its machines use tiny bursts of light to stencil chip designs onto silicon wafers, in a process called extreme ultraviolet lithography. “No one else has figured out how to do it,” says Rotonti.</p>\n<p>In other words, it has a monopoly position in supplying machines that do this – which are necessary for any company that wants to make leading edge chips.</p>\n<p><b>Risks</b></p>\n<p>Here are some of the chief risks for chip sector investors to watch.</p>\n<p><b>Oversupply</b></p>\n<p>Chip production has become politicized. The U.S. wants more production at home so it is not vulnerable to disruptions in Chinese supply chains. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CAAS\">China</a> wants to make 70% of the chips it uses by 2025, up from 5% now, says Winborne.</p>\n<p>The upshot here is that there’s lots of government support to boost manufacturing – so there will be much more of it. The risk is oversupply at some point in the future. This might also create a pull forward in chip equipment purchases — leading to a lull down the road which could hurt sales and margin trends at equipment makers.</p>\n<p>Next, big tech companies like Alphabet,Apple&nbsp;and Ammazon.com&nbsp;are all doing their own chip design, which threatens specialized chip companies that do the same thing.</p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/QTM\">Quantum</a> computing</b></p>\n<p>Computers using chip designs based on quantum physics instead of traditional semiconductor architectures have superior performance, points out Scolaro at William Blair. “While it probably won’t become mainstream for at least another five years, quantum computing has the potential to transform everything from technology to healthcare.”</p>\n<p><b>A disturbing signal</b></p>\n<p>A blend of global purchasing managers (PMI) indexes peaked in April and then decelerated for three months. Meanwhile chip sales growth continued. Normally the two follow the same trend, points out Karazeris, who tracks this indicator at Thrivent. He chalks the divergence up to inventory building which is less sustainable than true end-market demand. So, he takes the divergence as a bearish signal for the chip sector.</p>\n<p>Another cautionary sign comes from the forecasted weakness in pricing for dynamic random-access memory&nbsp;(DRAM) chips. “These are typically things you see at tops of cycles not the bottoms,” says Karazeris.</p>\n<p>But it’s also possible the slowdown in the global PMI is more a reflection of chip shortages than a sign that the shortages aren’t real (and are just inventory building). “The divergence doesn’t necessarily mean that chip orders are going to roll over and die. It means chip manufacturing has to catch up,” says Leuthold economist and strategist Jim Paulsen.</p>\n<p>Ford,for example, just announced it had to curtail production because of chip shortages, not a shortfall in underlying demand.</p>\n<p>Paulsen predicts decent economic growth is sustainable because of factors like high savings rates, the rebound in employment and incomes as well as pent-up demand for big ticket items. Excluding <b>Tesla</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>TSLA</u></b>), it has also been a tough ride for electric vehicle (EV)makers like <b>Lucid Motors</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>LCID</u></b>). From the 52-week high, LCID stock is now down almost 62% as it languishes near last month’s low of $20.49. The stock did not respond well to the company’s earnings report that released on Feb. 28. Non-GAAP earnings were in-line, but GAAP earnings were a miss. While revenue grew more than 600% year over year as the company now has deliveries, it came in significantly below analysts’ expectations.</p><p>As you may have guessed, production and deliveries have been a culprit to the decline in LCID stock price. Unfortunately, the company had to cut its 2022 production numbers from its predicted 20,000 vehicles down to a range of 12,000 to 14,000 vehicles. Lucid’s chief executive officer stated, “This reflects the extraordinary supply chain and logistics challenges we’ve encountered and our unrelenting focus on delivering the highest-quality products.”</p><p>To help with its supply chain issues, the company recently announced plans for a new battery plant.<b>LG Energy Solutions</b> will beinvesting $1.4 billion to build a battery manufacturing facility in Queen Creek, Arizona — within an hours drive from Lucid’s manufacturing plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. Lucid hopes this move will help its long-term growth. By 2030, the company plans to have the Arizona factory producing 500,000 EVs annually.</p><p>Along with its promising EV technology, investors continue to wonder if Lucid can become the next Tesla. It is not that Lucid can’t be Tesla-like in the future when it comes to production. However, many non-Tesla supporters fail to separate some of the things that make Tesla unique. For starters, it has Elon Musk, who seems to carry a premium with him. Second, the company has an entire energy business to consider, alongside an EV-leading production setup. It has numerous locations around the world in North America, China and Europe.</p><p>So, can Lucid get there from an automotive perspective? Of course it can — eventually. But production delays are a part of life for automakers and Lucid Motors is working through those issues now. In fact, significant issues.</p><p>It will need to stabilize its production plans to start working on “being the next Tesla.” Production increases and stabilization would be a great start for LCID stock’s future to go well. Unfortunately, the company had to cut its 2022 production numbers from its predicted 20,000 vehicles down to a range of 12,000 to 14,000 vehicles. Lucid’s chief executive officer stated, “This reflects the extraordinary supply chain and logistics challenges we’ve encountered and our unrelenting focus on delivering the highest-quality products.”To help with its supply chain issues, the company recently announced plans for a new battery plant.LG Energy Solutions will beinvesting $1.4 billion to build a battery manufacturing facility in Queen Creek, Arizona — within an hours drive from Lucid’s manufacturing plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. Lucid hopes this move will help its long-term growth. By 2030, the company plans to have the Arizona factory producing 500,000 EVs annually.Along with its promising EV technology, investors continue to wonder if Lucid can become the next Tesla.
