KONG/BEIJING, Jan 6 (Reuters) - China is in talks with Pfizer Inc to secure a licence that will","content":"

HONG KONG/BEIJING, Jan 6 (Reuters) - China is in talks with Pfizer Inc to secure a licence that will allow domestic drugmakers to manufacture and distribute a generic version of the U.S. firm's COVID-19 antiviral drug Paxlovid in China, three sources told Reuters.

China's medical products regulator - the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) - has been leading the talks with Pfizer since late last month, one of the sources with knowledge of the matter said.

Beijing is keen to finalise licensing deal terms before the Lunar New Year which begins on Jan. 22, the source said.

Chinese hospitals are under intense pressure after the government abruptly abandoned its "zero-COVID" policy last month, sending infections soaring. The surging wave of infections across the country has overwhelmed hospitals, emptied pharmacies of medicines and caused international alarm.

Paxlovid, found to have reduced hospitalisations in high-risk patients by around 90% in a clinical trial, is in high demand with many Chinese attempting to get the drug abroad and have it shipped to China. Beijing has been largely resistant to western vaccines and treatments. Oral treatment Paxlovid is one of the few foreign ones it has approved.

In February last year, China approved Paxlovid, which was supposed to be largely available via hospitals, to treat high-risk patients in several provinces. The "three stocks to avoid" in my column that I thought were going to lose to the market last week -- Coinbase, Despegar.com, and Bowlero -- fell 21%, 12%, and 12%, respectively, averaging out to a 15% plunge.

The S&P 500 experienced only a 0.7% move lower. I was right. I have been correct in 36 of the past 57 weeks, or 63% of the time.

Now let's look at the week ahead. I see Best Buy, Luckin Coffee, and Apple as stocks you might want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.

1. Best Buy

Best Buy's revival a few years ago was a thing of beauty. Now we're seeing that the last major consumer-electronics superstore chain still standing is on wobbly legs.

The retailer reports fresh financials on Tuesday morning, and it won't be pretty. Analysts see revenue clocking in 13% lower than the prior-year's fiscal third quarter. Its profit is expected to be cut in half.

The near-term outlook is uninspiring. Wall Street pros see revenue slipping 11% for the current holiday quarter, as well as the entire fiscal 2023 year that ends in January. Profitability should take a bigger hit. If you're buying Best Buy for that chunky 4.9% yield, that's a dicey proposition when its bottom line is going the wrong way.

Rising costs and the inability of a brick-and-mortar chain to compete on price with bare-boned online merchants are making life hard for Best Buy, again. Now we have a potentially dimming economy setting back demand for consumer electronics.

To be fair, Best Buy's renaissance wasn't that exciting. You have to go back to fiscal 2009 -- 14 years -- to find the last time that this chain delivered top-line gains in the double digits.

2. Luckin Coffee

If you were to construct the perfect stock to avoid in a lab, it would probably look a lot like Luckin Coffee. It's a China-based company at a time when most investors outside of the country are steering clear of the market.

Let's also not forget that Luckin Coffee is a stock that -- like its hot java -- already burned investors before. You surely remember the accounting scandal of 2020.

Have you checked on Luckin Coffee stock lately? The stock is a 20-bagger off its C-suite drama low. The shares ended this past week within 0.5% of a new two-year high, nearly quadrupling from this-year's springtime bottom. We'll get an update on how it's brewing when it pours a cup of third-quarter results on Tuesday.

Luckin Coffee has done a commendable job turning things around. After years of losses, it was profitable in 2021. Revenue continued to grow.

However, Luckin Coffee's top-line gains have decelerated for four consecutive quarters. It also posted a loss in its previous quarter. It's hard to get excited about Luckin Coffee. It may seem like a low-priced indulgence, but it's a luxury that consumers will avoid if they need to save their money for more-pressing expenses.

3. Apple

Let's wrap-up this-week's list by picking on the country's most valuable company by market cap. I'm a longtime fan and investor in Apple, but I can see why it's a scary stock to hold heading into this particular holiday shopping season. The economy is on iffy footing, credit card debit is rising, and Apple isn't going to be immune from consumers steering clear of big-ticket purchases this season.

Apple held up well when most tech stocks got slammed earlier this year, but the class act of Cupertino is finally proving mortal. It doesn't help that its annual refresh of popular products wasn't overly impressive. The \"three stocks to avoid\" in my column that I thought were going to lose to the market last week -- Coinbase, Despegar.com, and Bowlero -- fell 21%, 12%, and 12%, respectively, averaging out to a 15% plunge. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.1. Best BuyBest Buy's revival a few years ago was a thing of beauty. If you're buying Best Buy for that chunky 4.9% yield, that's a dicey proposition when its bottom line is going the wrong way.Rising costs and the inability of a brick-and-mortar chain to compete on price with bare-boned online merchants are making life hard for Best Buy, again. Now we have a potentially dimming economy setting back demand for consumer electronics. To be fair, Best Buy's renaissance wasn't that exciting. You have to go back to fiscal 2009 -- 14 years -- to find the last time that this chain delivered top-line gains in the double digits.2. Luckin CoffeeIf you were to construct the perfect stock to avoid in a lab, it would probably look a lot like Luckin Coffee. It's a China-based company at a time when most investors outside of the country are steering clear of the market.Let's also not forget that Luckin Coffee is a stock that -- like its hot java -- already burned investors before. You surely remember the accounting scandal of 2020.Have you checked on Luckin Coffee stock lately? The stock is a 20-bagger off its C-suite drama low. The shares ended this past week within 0.5% of a new two-year high, nearly quadrupling from this-year's springtime bottom. We'll get an update on how it's brewing when it pours a cup of third-quarter results on Tuesday.Luckin Coffee has done a commendable job turning things around. After years of losses, it was profitable in 2021. Revenue continued to grow. However, Luckin Coffee's top-line gains have decelerated for four consecutive quarters. It also posted a loss in its previous quarter. It's hard to get excited about Luckin Coffee. It may seem like a low-priced indulgence, but it's a luxury that consumers will avoid if they need to save their money for more-pressing expenses.3. AppleLet's wrap-up this-week's list by picking on the country's most valuable company by market cap. I'm a longtime fan and investor in Apple, but I can see why it's a scary stock to hold heading into this particular holiday shopping season. The economy is on iffy footing, credit card debit is rising, and Apple isn't going to be immune from consumers steering clear of big-ticket purchases this season.Apple held up well when most tech stocks got slammed earlier this year, but the class act of Cupertino is finally proving mortal. It doesn't help that its annual refresh of popular products wasn't overly impressive. With money already tight, it's easy to see consumers ride this year out and see what Apple springs on us in 2023.Analysts aren't excited. They see revenue and earnings per share rising a mere 3% and 2%, respectively, for the new fiscal year. It's going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in Best Buy, Luckin Coffee, and Apple this week.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1837,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9988141116,"gmtCreate":1666705240836,"gmtModify":1676537793002,"author":{"id":"3573516985440152","authorId":"3573516985440152","name":"KennethLim","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/b14c36aded4c09af72784800119db550","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573516985440152","authorIdStr":"3573516985440152"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"k","listText":"k","text":"k","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9988141116","repostId":"9988149248","repostType":1,"repost":{"id":9988149248,"gmtCreate":1666704929585,"gmtModify":1676537792709,"author":{"id":"3527667667103859","authorId":"3527667667103859","name":"TigerEvents","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/c266ef25181ace18bec1262357bbe1a8","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3527667667103859","authorIdStr":"3527667667103859"},"themes":[],"title":"[REWARDS] How has your stock performed this year?","htmlText":"Hi Tigers:I would like to invite you to share your positions and to win Tiger Coins.Sharing positions is simple.

With money already tight, it's easy to see consumers ride this year out and see what Apple springs on us in 2023.

Analysts aren't excited. They see revenue and earnings per share rising a mere 3% and 2%, respectively, for the new fiscal year.

It's going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in Best Buy, Luckin Coffee, and Apple this week.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks to Avoid This Week
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks to Avoid This Week\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-11-22 11:50 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Last week was a letdown for investors long the market after a strong rally the week before. That means we can all learn a lot from his buy-and-hold approach to investing and perhaps even get some much-needed inspiration from his stock picks.

Buffett oversees his company's investment portfolio, and two stocks in there that are most definitely worth buying and holding onto today are drugmaker AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) and tech giant Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). Here's why.

ABBV Total Return Level data by YCharts

1. AbbVie

Pharmaceutical companies have the advantage of offering products that are always in demand. AbbVie's portfolio includes immunology drugs Humira, Skyrizi, and Rinvoq; cancer medicines Imbruvica and Venclexta; and schizophrenia treatment Vraylar.

In 2021, AbbVie's net revenue came in at $56.1 billion, 10.5% higher than the year-ago period. That's a solid top-line performance for a pharma giant. The drugmaker's adjusted earnings per share for the year increased 20.3% to $12.70. Note that AbbVie's Humira made up almost 37% of the company's total revenue last year.

That is a problem since the healthcare company will lose patent exclusivity for this medicine in the U.S. next year. Humira's loss of patent exclusivity in Europe back in 2018 significantly harmed its international revenue.

Still, the company is prepared to deal with the inevitable revenue losses Humira will experience in the U.S. in the coming years. Skyrizi and Rinvoq are well on their way to earning approvals across most of Humira's indications, and they already have significant wins under their belt. In 2021, Sales of Rinvoq more than doubled to $1.7 billion while revenue from Skyrizi increased by 85% to $2.9 billion.

Skyrizi and Rinvoq seem well-equipped to fill the gaping hole that Humira will leave, but the company can count on its other products as well, including its Botox franchise. Many of the company's products boast patents that won't expire anytime soon. Plus, AbbVie has a pipeline with dozens of ongoing programs. Expect new approvals and label expansions to add to the company's revenue base routinely.

AbbVie's solid business helps support its excellent dividend track record. The company is part of the exclusive club of Dividend Kings, or companies that have raised their payouts for at least 50 consecutive years. And with an above-average yield of 3.74% and a conservative payout ratio of 42%, AbbVie looks more than able to sustain further dividend increases ahead.

That's just one more reason to purchase shares of this pharma giant. Overall, AbbVie looks like a solid company to hold on to through thick and thin.

2. Apple

Apple's iPhone has been immensely successful since it was introduced in 2007. The company remains a leader in this industry with a 22% share of the smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2021. During its fiscal year 2021 (ended Sept. 25), Apple generated $192 billion in sales from its iPhone segment, 39.3% higher than the previous fiscal year.

Could Apple lose its dominance in the smartphone market? It wouldn't be the first time something like that happens. Apple itself played an instrumental role in the decline of BlackBerry's once-booming smartphone business starting in the late 2000s. Could other companies permanently dethrone Apple?

Given how popular and powerful the company's brand has become, it is hard to imagine Apple no longer being one of the most prominent players in this field, at least for the foreseeable future. More importantly, though, Apple has leveraged its strong brand name and robust cash flow generation to invest in and grow its services business.

The company's services segment offers customers a range of products, including Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Pay, iCloud, and more. The great thing about this business is that it offers much juicier margins than the sale of hardware products such as the iPhone, tablets, and laptops. In other words, as Apple's services revenue grows -- and as it captures a larger share of the company's total revenue -- that will work wonders for the company's bottom line.

iPhone sales will likely remain strong for many more years, especially as Apple makes headway into various international markets. But the company's future is increasingly tied to its services segment, and that's something that should excite investors. Even with a $2.8 trillion market cap, Apple still has considerable room to grow. That means we can all learn a lot from his buy-and-hold approach to investing and perhaps even get some much-needed inspiration from his stock picks.Buffett oversees his company's investment portfolio, and two stocks in there that are most definitely worth buying and holding onto today are drugmaker AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) and tech giant Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). Here's why.ABBV Total Return Level data by YCharts1. AbbViePharmaceutical companies have the advantage of offering products that are always in demand. AbbVie's portfolio includes immunology drugs Humira, Skyrizi, and Rinvoq; cancer medicines Imbruvica and Venclexta; and schizophrenia treatment Vraylar.In 2021, AbbVie's net revenue came in at $56.1 billion, 10.5% higher than the year-ago period. That's a solid top-line performance for a pharma giant. The drugmaker's adjusted earnings per share for the year increased 20.3% to $12.70. Note that AbbVie's Humira made up almost 37% of the company's total revenue last year.That is a problem since the healthcare company will lose patent exclusivity for this medicine in the U.S. next year. Humira's loss of patent exclusivity in Europe back in 2018 significantly harmed its international revenue.Still, the company is prepared to deal with the inevitable revenue losses Humira will experience in the U.S. in the coming years. Skyrizi and Rinvoq are well on their way to earning approvals across most of Humira's indications, and they already have significant wins under their belt. In 2021, Sales of Rinvoq more than doubled to $1.7 billion while revenue from Skyrizi increased by 85% to $2.9 billion.Skyrizi and Rinvoq seem well-equipped to fill the gaping hole that Humira will leave, but the company can count on its other products as well, including its Botox franchise. Many of the company's products boast patents that won't expire anytime soon. Plus, AbbVie has a pipeline with dozens of ongoing programs. Expect new approvals and label expansions to add to the company's revenue base routinely.AbbVie's solid business helps support its excellent dividend track record. The company is part of the exclusive club of Dividend Kings, or companies that have raised their payouts for at least 50 consecutive years. And with an above-average yield of 3.74% and a conservative payout ratio of 42%, AbbVie looks more than able to sustain further dividend increases ahead.That's just one more reason to purchase shares of this pharma giant. Overall, AbbVie looks like a solid company to hold on to through thick and thin.2. AppleApple's iPhone has been immensely successful since it was introduced in 2007. The company remains a leader in this industry with a 22% share of the smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2021. During its fiscal year 2021 (ended Sept. 25), Apple generated $192 billion in sales from its iPhone segment, 39.3% higher than the previous fiscal year.Could Apple lose its dominance in the smartphone market? It wouldn't be the first time something like that happens. Apple itself played an instrumental role in the decline of BlackBerry's once-booming smartphone business starting in the late 2000s. Could other companies permanently dethrone Apple?Given how popular and powerful the company's brand has become, it is hard to imagine Apple no longer being one of the most prominent players in this field, at least for the foreseeable future. More importantly, though, Apple has leveraged its strong brand name and robust cash flow generation to invest in and grow its services business.The company's services segment offers customers a range of products, including Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Pay, iCloud, and more. The great thing about this business is that it offers much juicier margins than the sale of hardware products such as the iPhone, tablets, and laptops. In other words, as Apple's services revenue grows -- and as it captures a larger share of the company's total revenue -- that will work wonders for the company's bottom line.iPhone sales will likely remain strong for many more years, especially as Apple makes headway into various international markets. But the company's future is increasingly tied to its services segment, and that's something that should excite investors. Even with a $2.8 trillion market cap, Apple still has considerable room to grow. No wonder it is one of the largest holdings in Buffett's portfolio.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":219,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9932748204,"gmtCreate":1662997052808,"gmtModify":1676537179450,"author":{"id":"3573516985440152","authorId":"3573516985440152","name":"KennethLim","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/b14c36aded4c09af72784800119db550","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573516985440152","authorIdStr":"3573516985440152"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$JIUTIAN CHEMICAL GROUP LIMITED(C8R.SI)$JIUTIAN","listText":"$JIUTIAN CHEMICAL GROUP LIMITED(C8R.SI)$JIUTIAN","text":"$JIUTIAN CHEMICAL GROUP LIMITED(C8R.SI)$JIUTIAN","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d6f4d1de132e9ca046259f661303ab4a","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9932748204","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1529,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9991420815,"gmtCreate":1660871739539,"gmtModify":1676536415267,"author":{"id":"3573516985440152","authorId":"3573516985440152","name":"KennethLim","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/b14c36aded4c09af72784800119db550","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573516985440152","authorIdStr":"3573516985440152"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SILVERLAKE AXIS LTD(5CP.SI)$silverlake","listText":"$SILVERLAKE AXIS LTD(5CP.SI)$silverlake","text":"$SILVERLAKE AXIS LTD(5CP.SI)$silverlake","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/e8c3c478aef16eb854490284dc43205c","width":"1080","height":"2492"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9991420815","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":947,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
