The Chinese tech and e-commerce giant has had its roughest year since going public, facing pressures from COVID-19 lockdowns, weakening consumer spending, and macroeconomic headwinds. Still, the company stays afloat. Our bullish sentiment on the stock is based on our belief that the worst of the macroeconomic headwinds and lockdown restrictions have been priced in, leaving the company's valuation too attractive to ignore.

We recommend investors buy the stock pullback because we believe Alibaba's core fundamentals remain intact. We expect the company to recover and grow meaningfully in CY2023 on the back of Alibaba Cloud and easing lockdown restrictions in China.

Headwinds are priced in, for the most part

Alibaba has been under significant pressure in its money-making department: China E-commerce. While Alibaba has expanded its business to integrate tech, the company remains a retailer at heart. The devaluation of the yuan currency, alongside the global weakening consumer spending, took a bite out of Alibaba's revenue this past quarter. Alibaba reported revenue of $29B, achieving a 3% Y/Y growth but falling short of expectations by $490M. Despite the 2Q23 earnings report, we believe Alibaba is well-positioned to grow in the e-commerce business in the long run. We believe Alibaba's customer base is more resilient than the market is giving it credit for. While 2Q23 reported a decline in the number of total buyers, we believe the company's Business-to-Business (B2B) model provides Alibaba with high-spending customers that will support sales even during market downtrends. We believe the company is trading cheaply for its position in the e-commerce market in China- with over 60% of the market share in 2021. We believe most of the weak consumer spending and lockdown restriction headwinds have been priced into the stock.

The following graph outlines Alibaba's annual revenue distribution between 2018-2022.

Statista

The stock has taken a hit- but we expect e-commerce to recover when 1) global consumer spending picks up and 2) as China eases the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. The latter has already taken effect with China announcing restrictions are being lifted- despite China reporting that 25,353 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. We expect China's 'Zero-COVID' policies to remain uncertain towards the end of the year, but we believe the government is taking measures to fine-tune the restrictions so they do not disrupt business and daily life. We're more constructive on Alibaba's e-commerce business going forward and believe the stock's valuation is too attractive to ignore.

Alibaba Cloud is the third-largest cloud provider

Alibaba Cloud was the company's second revenue driver in its 2Q23 earnings report, growing 4% Y/Y. Alibaba is expanding its position as a cloud provider investing $1B in a "global partner ecosystem upgrade." The Chinese Cloud provider is now the world's third-largest cloud provider after competitors Amazon (AMZN) and Microsoft (MSFT), with a worldwide market share of 9.5% in 2021, according to Gartner.

The following graph outlines Alibaba's position among the top cloud providers globally.

Gartner

We like Alibaba's position in the cloud market forecasted to grow at a CAGR of 19.9% between 2022-2029. Although other industries felt the negative effects of the global pandemic, cannabis-related companies managed to remain on relatively firm footing as dispensaries and pot shops weredeclared essential services in many states and permitted to function amid the crisis.Nevertheless, some businesses in the space experienced challenges, such as having to cut their workforce. Then again, others were hiring. The rollercoaster ride continuedIn 2020 five U.S. states ushered in cannabis legalization. However, this year’s much-anticipated bid for legalization in Mexico failed to meet a Supreme Court deadline. Cannabis advocates are not giving up though. They're now pushing for a special session in the hope of creating one of the world's largest legal cannabis markets.Year of the MergerWith the many consolidations that took place in the industry this year – the largest being the recently completedAphria, Inc.-Tilray(NASDAQ: TLRY) merger – Benzinga was interested to learn what this period would bring for Aurora and what the company’s plans were. Is it also considering a merger? We reached out to the company’s CEO, Miguel Martin who filled us in on its business transformation plan.Improving Balance SheetIn 2020, Auroralaid offmore than 1200 of its employees, and in January of this year, following its deal with Great North Distributors, 200 more workers got pink slips. Regarding the 2020 layoffs, the company cited an effort to improve its balance sheet.Martin explained that Aurora made “tough yet necessary decisions” in order to get the company back on the road to profitability. Now, “we are investing in our people. We’re hiring some great people here at the company,” Martin told Benzinga.“Aurora is a long-term player in the global cannabinoid market and is increasingly positioned to deliver for shareholders over the long run.”Even though several years ago, Aurora’s stock was valued at $100 and now is below $10, Martin chooses to focus on the present. He said they did what they had to do to adapt to today’s marketplace.“Our production rate was not sustainable, a trend seen across the cannabis industry. What I can say is that we are one of the first LPs to right-size production. We’ve exited markets and infrastructure that didn’t make sense from a financial standpoint. Looking ahead, we’re focused on our key markets that drive significant revenue growth.”No Fear Of CompetitionThe core of Aurora’s business is the medical segment, which the company has been developing for years. In spite of so many companies joining the Canadian medical cannabis scene, Martin is not worried about competition.“Aurora has deep roots as a medical cannabis company and has been an advocate for patient access in Canada and beyond. Our history of science and R&D gives us a competitive advantage to capitalize on new discoveries and technologies,\" he explained. \"We have one of the most comprehensive genetic libraries in the world and we’re investing in genetic mapping to not only better understand our plants, but to deliver a quality product to our patients and consumers.\"Regarding the industry's recent rash of consolidation and mergers, Martin is confident that Aurora does not need to go down that road.“Overall, the action in this space is great news but Aurora does not feel it needs to follow suit to remain competitive. That being said, our excellent balance sheet and the recent capital raise put Aurora in a great place to do so, should an opportunity arise,” Martin said.Three Principles – Quality, Innovation, Premium ProductsAurora is currently concentrating on three principles – 1) Quality improvement; 2) The launch of the new products; 3) Premium products like vape, pre-rolls and concentrates.“Quality is an absolute non-negotiable for success,” Martin stressed.“Innovation is equally at the core of our focus and we are leveraging the excellence of our superior R&D capabilities to bring new offerings to market, especially in adjacent, value add categories like vapes, pre-rolls and concentrates. Innovation and product line extensions will be seen under Aurora’s leading brands, including San Rafael and Aurora. I am particularly excited about the future of the San Rafael brand as we prepare to expand the brand.”In 2021, Aurora is concentrating on improving performance and its shareholders.“We’re focusing on key markets that drive significant revenue growth and deliver shareholder value. Specifically, we aim to advance our leadership in our Canadian recreational, Canadian and international medical, and the expanding US marketplace,” Martin noted.Attracted To The U.S. MarketAurora is keeping a close eye on the U.S. market, in order to be prepared for federal legalization.“In terms of the U.S. THC market, we won’t simply wait for comprehensive legislation… we're assessing ways to move quickly once comprehensive legislation is in place,\" Martin said. \"One thing I am confident in is that the competitive landscape in the US will look very different if THC is de-scheduled because of social justice and economic reforms, which we believe will ultimately drive it.”Aurora is already well-positioned in the U.S., Martin noted, with its CBD brand Reliva, which has put it “in a strong place to look ahead at the U.S. market as it undergoes market and regulatory changes.”Aurora is also internationally oriented, believing that the industry has an enormous growth potential on a global level.“We will pursue growth in a measured and sustainable way, leveraging Aurora’s medical cannabis credentials and international footprint to unlock new opportunities and meet consumer demand as it arises,” Martin concluded.Aurora's shares were trading 5.36% higher at $8.06 per share at the time of writing.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"ACB":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":455,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9932458969,"gmtCreate":1662982911451,"gmtModify":1676537175670,"author":{"id":"3573709257975993","authorId":"3573709257975993","name":"Sim1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45f90a5e23b6dc713a314a1c2365d6b6","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573709257975993","authorIdStr":"3573709257975993"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like ","listText":"Like ","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9932458969","repostId":"2266349698","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":665,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9933627871,"gmtCreate":1662277855594,"gmtModify":1676537030114,"author":{"id":"3573709257975993","authorId":"3573709257975993","name":"Sim1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45f90a5e23b6dc713a314a1c2365d6b6","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573709257975993","authorIdStr":"3573709257975993"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9933627871","repostId":"1114052367","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1114052367","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1662260377,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1114052367?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-09-04 10:59","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Reminder: US Market Will be Closed for Labor Day on Monday, 5 September 2022 EDT","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1114052367","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Dear Valued Client,US Labor Day is around the corner. Market darlings that seemed to have clear runways for years of growth have announced layoffs. Rightsizing your workforce is never a good look. It does quite the number on corporate morale, too. However, it doesn't mean that you should \"lay off\" the stocks.Shopify, Wayfair, and Netflix have all stunned the market by announcing plans to eliminate personnel. It doesn't mean that the stocks are toast. Shopify, Wayfair, and Netflix are leaders in their respective niches. Let's see why they could be potential buy candidates here.Image source: Getty Images.1. ShopifyThere was a time when the shares of companies announcing layoffs would move higher, as the market would be relieved to see the top brass take action to get costs under control. Things didn't play out that way when Shopify announced that it would be cutting 10% of its staff late last month, as the stock took a 14% hit that day alone.Shopify has proven mortal. The stock is now trading 80% below the all-time high it hit just nine months ago. The company's initial pandemic projections that years of heady growth were coming had it invest aggressively in building out its offerings. The deceleration has been rough. Revenue rose a mere 16% in its latest report, well short of analyst expectations. Gross merchandise volume rose a mere 11%.Business has slowed, and that makes the stock's valuation -- despite trading for just a fifth of its November peak -- a sticking point with some value-minded investors. But Shopify has carved out a lucrative niche in the realm of online commerce. It's empowering merchants, and that's a long-term approach to success.2. WayfairThe latest one-time highflier to pull on the recliner handle is Wayfair. The online furniture retailer revealed in a regulatory filing on Friday morning that it's reducing its workforce by 870 employees. It had announced plans to realign investment priorities and manage its operating expense earlier, but now it's real. The layoffs cover 5% of its global workforce and 10% of its corporate team.Wayfair became one of the market's biggest winners during the early stages of the pandemic, as local showrooms weren't open and folks wanted to hunker down at home with refreshed furnishings. Revenue growth would spike from 35% in 2019 to 55% in 2020, only to post negative revenue growth last year. The company has now rattled off five consecutive quarters of double-digit-percentage declines on the top line. It's not as devastating as it might seem. Revenue did clock in 15% lower in its latest quarter than it did a year earlier, and 24% below where it was two years ago when the country's initial shutdown sent folks scrambling for e-commerce solutions. However, Wayfair's sales are still 40% higher than they were three years ago.The slowdown is natural after all of the binge buying of home essentials through early 2021, but when we need new furniture, it's a safe bet that Wayfair will be a top consideration. Adjusting its workforce will help tackle its lack of profitability.3. NetflixIt's not just the master chefs on some of the cooking shows you see on Netflix doing a lot of cutting these days. Netflix has had at least two rounds of small layoffs in May and June, shortly after stunning investors by reporting a sequential decline in global paid subscribers for the first quarter. The climate is kinder now. It lost less than half as many subscribers as it initially forecast for the second quarter, and Netflix is projecting a return to sequential subscriber growth for the current quarter. Netflix is also working on new initiatives that include gaming, theatrical releases for high-profile flicks, and rolling out a more economical ad-supported tier. With more than 220 million paid accounts worldwide -- and now growing -- it's easy to believe that the worst is over for the top dog of streaming-service stocks.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"NFLX":0.9,"W":0.9,"SHOP":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":514,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9990891868,"gmtCreate":1660318170657,"gmtModify":1676533450590,"author":{"id":"3573709257975993","authorId":"3573709257975993","name":"Sim1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45f90a5e23b6dc713a314a1c2365d6b6","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573709257975993","authorIdStr":"3573709257975993"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9990891868","repostId":"2258861097","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2258861097","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1660318203,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2258861097?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-12 23:30","market":"other","language":"en","title":"4 Index Funds to Retire a Millionaire Without Lifting a Finger","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2258861097","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"For many of us, becoming a millionaire is surprisingly possible.","content":"
\n
So you'd like to retire a millionaire. Who wouldn't? (Well, maybe billionaires.) In many ways, it all boils down to math: Invest a particular sum (ideally regularly), earn a particular return, and in a particular number of years, you'll get there.A single lottery ticket might work, but really, whether you buy a ticket or not, your odds of winning a big jackpot are nearly the same. Instead, consider a much more reliable -- and easy -- strategy: investing in stocks over many years. Here's how to do that through index funds. Here's the math for becoming a millionaireThe table below shows how you can build wealth over different multiyear periods with regular investments of various sizes. Clearly, achieving millionaire status is possible, but you'll need to be diligent to get there. And if you don't have lots of decades ahead of you, you'll want to be investing a lot each year.Growing at 8% for...$10,000 Invested Annually$15,000 Invested Annually$20,000 Invested Annually5 years$63,359$95,039$126,71810 years$156,455$234,682$312,91015 years$293,243$439,864$586,48620 years$494,229$741,344$988,45825 years$789,544$1,184,316$1,579,08830 years$1,223,459$1,835,188$2,446,917Data source: Calculations by author. That 8% annual average growth rate isn't guaranteed, either. The stock market's average annual return over long periods is close to 10%, but it will likely be at least a little higher or lower over your particular investing time frame, and may be a lot higher or lower. Here are four index funds that may deliver average annual gains of 8% to 10%, on average, over your investing time frame.Four promising index fundsSPDR S&P 500 ETFAs a reminder, an index fund is a mutual fund or exchange-traded fund (ETF) that aims to deliver approximately the same returns as a particular index by holding the same securities in the same proportions. Index funds are great for most of us, with the best index funds offering solid performance, low fees, and simplicity. Buy the shares and then trust in the long-term growth of the economy. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF tracks the S&P 500 index of 500 of America's biggest companies, such as CVS Health, Amazon.com, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer. There are thousands of publicly traded companies in America, but these 500 together make up around 80% of the entire market.Lots of financial services companies offer S&P 500 index funds, and there's a good chance that your company's 401(k) plan offers one, too. Any such fund, as long as it's a low-fee index fund, will be a solid candidate for your portfolio.Over the past 10 and 15 years, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF has averaged annual gains of 13.6% and 9.4%, respectively.Vanguard Total Stock Market ETFIf you'd rather spread your dollars (or some of your dollars) across an index that represents roughly 100% of the total U.S. market instead of just 80%, look at a \"total stock market\" index fund, like the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF. It contains more than 4,000 different stocks, including lots of smaller- and small-cap companies, such as BJ's Wholesale Club and Texas Roadhouse.Over the past 10 and 15 years, the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF has averaged annual gains of 13.4% and 9.5%, respectively.Vanguard Total World Stock ETFYou can do very well over the long run just by sticking with an S&P 500 index fund or a total stock market fund, but for those interested, you can spread your dollars even wider by opting for a \"total world stock market\" fund. Consider the Vanguard Total World Stock ETF. It encompasses more than 9,000 stocks from countries around the world. Examples include Taiwan Semiconductor, Toyota Motor, Royal Bank of Canada, and of course, all those companies in the previous two index funds.Over the past 10 years, the Vanguard Total World Stock ETF has averaged annual gains of 9.6%. It doesn't yet have a 15-year average.Invesco QQQ ETFFinally, if you'd like to aim for a higher growth rate than those offered by index funds targeting much of the United States or world market, consider the Invesco QQQ ETF. The focus of the Invesco QQQ ETF is much narrower, as it tracks the Nasdaq-100 Index of the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange, based on market cap. These are mostly well-known growth stocks. Here are the recent top holdings:AppleMicrosoftAmazon.comTeslaAlphabetMeta PlatformsNvidiaPepsiCoCostcoOther components include Starbucks, Airbnb, and Intuitive Surgical. Over the past 10 and 15 years, the Invesco QQQ ETF has averaged annual gains of 18.4% and 14.6%, respectively. With the overall market slumping significantly in recent months, and many growth stocks being hit especially hard, this is a great time to invest in one or more index funds, as prices are low. Give these ETFs some thought and start investing in earnest if you're aiming to be a millionaire.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SPY":0.9,"QQQ":0.9,"VTI":0.9,"VT":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":771,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9907438927,"gmtCreate":1660229552271,"gmtModify":1703499917058,"author":{"id":"3573709257975993","authorId":"3573709257975993","name":"Sim1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45f90a5e23b6dc713a314a1c2365d6b6","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573709257975993","authorIdStr":"3573709257975993"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9907438927","repostId":"1141311315","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":540,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9075971448,"gmtCreate":1658138708584,"gmtModify":1676536111050,"author":{"id":"3573709257975993","authorId":"3573709257975993","name":"Sim1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45f90a5e23b6dc713a314a1c2365d6b6","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573709257975993","authorIdStr":"3573709257975993"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9075971448","repostId":"1185408414","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1185408414","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1658134447,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1185408414?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-07-18 16:54","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is Alphabet A Buy After 20-For-1 Stock Split?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1185408414","media":"Investing.com","summary":"Alphabet is trying to widen its investment appeal through a stock splitCompany’s business fundamenta","content":"

Alphabet is trying to widen its investment appeal through a stock split

Company’s business fundamentals matter most when making a buying decision

Google one of most-favored mega-cap tech stocks on Wall Street

Starting this week, you won’t need to spend more than $2,000 to buy a share of Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL). The parent of the Google search engine will complete a 20-for-1 stock split by the close next Friday in the form of a one-time special stock dividend, aiming to draw a wider audience for its shares.Alphabet, like other mega-cap tech companies that saw their share prices soaring during the past decade, has been at a disadvantage, as its stock became expensive for retail investors. For mom-and-pop traders, a lower stock price makes it easier to buy shares rather than purchase fractional stocks through their brokerage firms.Source: Investing.comAlphabet’s 20-for-1 split would reduce the price of Class A shares to roughly $111, based on Friday’s trading price of $2,228.80.Alphabet is one of the last large mega-cap companies to do its stock splits in the current wave. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) all have already completed their splits during the past two years.Technically speaking, stock splits don’t change the value of a company or its investors’ holdings. However, the split decision illustrates the growing influence of retail investors on the market in modern times and the companies’ desire to make their investment appeal wider. That said, investors shouldn’t make their investment decisions based on stock splits.
