They don't often issue overly skeptical research reports on the companies they cover. And they tend not to ask executives tough questions on earnings calls, leaning toward a more \"Great quarter, guys!\" approach.So when analysts do issue highly bearish coverage of companies, it's worth paying attention. And lately there have been a brave few who have dared to be more critical.Loop Capital analyst Anthony Chukumba, for one, recently set a $1 target for shares of Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY), the stock that enjoyed a dramatic rise and equally stunning fall last week after GameStop (GME) chairman Ryan Cohen decided to sell his stake in the home goods retailer.In his most recent report, Chukumba warned of worries the chain's vendors could demand more onerous payments from the company, which could put Bed Bath & Beyond into a \"death spiral.\"Bed Bath & Beyond isn't the only meme stock that's come under more intense scrutiny as of late.Eric Handler of MKM Partners has a $1 target on movie theater chain AMC (AMC), citing concerns about the company's valuation and doubts about the broader comeback for Hollywood at the box office. Many potential moviegoers are now opting to stay home and watch the latest releases on streaming platforms.Another analyst has outdone Chukumba and Handler when it comes to doom and gloom.David Trainer, CEO of New Constructs, an investment research firm, has $0 price targets on GameStop, DoorDash and electric vehicle maker Rivian. It's the stock picker's equivalent of bidding $1 on an over-hyped \"The Price is Right\" Showcase Showdown.Trainer noted concerns about the amount of cash the three firms are burning through to try to stay competitive. He referred to the stocks as \"zombies,\" implying that the companies could potentially need to file for bankruptcy.Typically, Chapter 11 filings wipe out value for stock owners as bondholders and other creditors are first in line to get paid back.It's worth pointing out that none of these analysts are well-known names or work for major Wall Street firms. They don't often issue overly skeptical research reports on the companies they cover. And they tend not to ask executives tough questions on earnings calls, leaning toward a more \"Great quarter, guys!\" approach.So when analysts do issue highly bearish coverage of companies, it's worth paying attention. And lately there have been a brave few who have dared to be more critical.Loop Capital analyst Anthony Chukumba, for one, recently set a $1 target for shares of Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY), the stock that enjoyed a dramatic rise and equally stunning fall last week after GameStop (GME) chairman Ryan Cohen decided to sell his stake in the home goods retailer.In his most recent report, Chukumba warned of worries the chain's vendors could demand more onerous payments from the company, which could put Bed Bath & Beyond into a \"death spiral.\"Bed Bath & Beyond isn't the only meme stock that's come under more intense scrutiny as of late.Eric Handler of MKM Partners has a $1 target on movie theater chain AMC (AMC), citing concerns about the company's valuation and doubts about the broader comeback for Hollywood at the box office. Many potential moviegoers are now opting to stay home and watch the latest releases on streaming platforms.Another analyst has outdone Chukumba and Handler when it comes to doom and gloom.David Trainer, CEO of New Constructs, an investment research firm, has $0 price targets on GameStop, DoorDash and electric vehicle maker Rivian. It's the stock picker's equivalent of bidding $1 on an over-hyped \"The Price is Right\" Showcase Showdown.Trainer noted concerns about the amount of cash the three firms are burning through to try to stay competitive. He referred to the stocks as \"zombies,\" implying that the companies could potentially need to file for bankruptcy.Typically, Chapter 11 filings wipe out value for stock owners as bondholders and other creditors are first in line to get paid back.It's worth pointing out that none of these analysts are well-known names or work for major Wall Street firms. But even some analysts at big investment banks are starting to put out more critical coverage of blue chip stocks.Analysts are going as far as putting actual \"sell\" ratings on stocks instead of merely lowering them to a \"hold\" — which investors typically interpret as a nicer way of saying \"sell.\"Morgan Stanley's Jamie Rollo put out a report on cruise line Carnival (CCL) in late June that outlined a worst case scenario of $0 for the stock if the global economy weakened significantly.Deutsche Bank's George Hill slapped a $1 price target on struggling drugstore chain Rite Aid (RAD) earlier this year. What’s behind BBBY’s plummet today?It appears Bed Bath & Beyond is continued its plunge following reports that some of the home retailer’s suppliers have ceased shipping products due to non-payment. According to Bloomberg, several creditors have revoked coverage of BBBY, leading the company to fall behind on payments for its inventory. It’s truly the icing on top of the meme cake that BBBY has constructed.Indeed, last week, Ryan Cohen sold his 11.8% stake in the volatile meme stock. Unfortunately for fans, Cohen’s sale sparked a massive selloff. This is clearly reflected in the BBBY stock price.Many believed Cohen’s stake was a positive sign. Many hoped Cohen, the founder of Chewy(NYSE:CHWY) and current GameStop(NYSE:GME) chairman would return the company to generating cash. As such, with his departure, it’s no surprise to see many investors lose faith.Is There Hope Left for BBBY Stock?Bed Bath & Beyond’s tumble has put a spotlight on the company’s recent failures. In late June, the retailer announced net sales were down 25%, with negative cash flow of $400,000. As investors have abandoned the company en masse, its funding and liquidity issues have become even more apparent.BBBY has floated off of its overextended share price for quite some time. Indeed, BBBY hit as high as $30 on Aug. 17 before its dramatic fall. Currently shares are trading for $9.24, a level many analysts believe is still too high.Bed Bath & Beyond remains a cautionary tale. While it is easy to underestimate the staying power of meme stocks, the path forward for BBBY is hazy to say the least.According to Wedbush analyst Seth Basham, the company may well be on the way to bankruptcy.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"BBBY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2841,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9991859144,"gmtCreate":1660811159290,"gmtModify":1676536404019,"author":{"id":"3574114936019192","authorId":"3574114936019192","name":"Ivanwq888","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/4fe45089f71149c3b53c6bd86e62c4a5","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3574114936019192","idStr":"3574114936019192"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Fake news.. still trying. hahaha ","listText":"Fake news.. still trying. hahaha ","text":"Fake news.. still trying. hahaha","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9991859144","repostId":"1168196811","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1168196811","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1660809974,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1168196811?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-18 16:06","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Bed Bath & Beyond Stock Plunged 11% After Ryan Cohen Files to Unload Stake","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1168196811","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Bed Bath & Beyond stock plunged 11% in premarket trading after a top investor Ryan Cohen suggested h","content":"<html><head></head><body><p>Bed Bath & Beyond stock plunged 11% in premarket trading after a top investor Ryan Cohen suggested he has soured on the stock.<img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ea3e4f0ac23c6aeb2d325ac83933b7f6\" tg-width=\"828\" tg-height=\"831\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/>Ryan Cohen’s RC Ventures said in a filing Tuesday with the US Securities and Exchange Commission that it might sell as much as 7.78 million shares of Bed Bath & Beyond, along with some call options. Its stock subsequently sank below $5 for the first time since the COVID crash in April 2020. But over the past month, its stock more than doubled to about $13. That rally wasn't driven by any meaningful improvements to its business. Instead, it was likely sparked by a short squeeze and exuberant discussions about the stock on Reddit's WallStreetBets (WSB) forum.At the end of July, 36% of Bed Bath & Beyond's outstanding shares were still being shorted. The stock trades at just 0.2 times this year's sales after its month-long rally, which suggests that any positive news might drive it even higher. So should investors chase this wild rally?Image source: Getty Images.Why did Bed Bath & Beyond's stock crash?Prior to the pandemic, Bed Bath & Beyond struggled to stay relevant against Amazon, Walmart, and Target in the crowded retail market. Its comparable sales growth stalled out, and its attempts to buy more growth through acquisitions made its business even messier. It also fell into the trap of using aggressive, margin-crushing discounts to generate more sales.Bed Bath & Beyond's poor performance prompted a trio of activist investors to revolt in 2019, which led to a shakeup of its board of directors and the resignation of its CEO Steven Temares. It then hired Mark Tritton, Target's chief merchandising officer, as its new CEO to helm its turnaround efforts.Tritton tried to fix Bed Bath & Beyond by shuttering its weaker stores, divesting its non-core banners, expanding its e-commerce ecosystem, and reducing its inventories with steep discounts. Unfortunately, Tritton took over just as the COVID-19 pandemic started, and its post-lockdown recovery was brief and quickly hampered by supply chain disruptions and inflationary headwinds over the past year.PeriodQ1 2022Q4 2021Q3 2021Q2 2021Q1 2021Comps Growth (YOY)(23%)(12%)(7%)(1%)86%Adj. YOY = Year-over-year.The company dismissed Tritton in June and named Sue Gove, an independent director on its board, as its interim CEO. On July 1, Gove bought 50,000 shares of Bed Bath & Beyond at an average price of $4.61 -- which nearly doubled her existing stake -- as a vote of confidence in its future.Can Bed Bath & Beyond's stock recover?During the company's shareholder meeting in mid-July, Gove said it was \"working with urgency\" and \"very focused on finding the best opportunities available to maximize value for all stakeholders.\"Gove highlighted the growth of its Simply Essential private label brand, the expansion of its new loyalty program (which launched on June 23 and gained two million members in the first two weeks), and fresh sales strategies for the back-to-school shopping season as potential near-term catalysts.She said the company was still addressing its supply chain and inventory issues, and that the \"next few weeks and months\" would be \"critically important\" for its future. Gove also said the company would also provide \"much more\" information at an upcoming investor presentation in late August.Gove's comments are realistic and hopeful, but they don't seem to justify the stock's massive rally over the past month. Meanwhile, its long-term debt -- which rose 17% year over year to $1.38 billion in the first quarter -- still raises concerns that it could become the next J.C. Penney or Sears. It only had $108 million in cash and equivalents at the end of May, and it's reportedly been seeking out private loans to stay solvent.For now, analysts expect Bed Bath & Beyond's revenue to decline 17% to $6.5 billion for the full year and for its net loss to widen from $560 million to $665 million.Ignore the \"meme stock\" noiseThere's no fundamental reason to expect Bed Bath & Beyond's stock to recover over the next few quarters. Instead, investors seem completely fixated on the stock's short interest -- but that ratio might have already declined since its last official reading on July 28.Therefore, investors expecting Bed Bath & Beyond to become the next GameStop or AMC will likely be disappointed when this meme stock rally fizzles out. It consistently underperformed Walmart, Target, and other big-box retailers during both the pandemic and the post-lockdown period, and there's no reason to believe it will suddenly get its act together before its liabilities overwhelm its assets.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"BBBY":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":825,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9993434726,"gmtCreate":1660712612868,"gmtModify":1676536385331,"author":{"id":"3574114936019192","authorId":"3574114936019192","name":"Ivanwq888","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/4fe45089f71149c3b53c6bd86e62c4a5","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3574114936019192","idStr":"3574114936019192"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"To the moon ","listText":"To the moon ","text":"To the moon","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9993434726","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1171,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3527667613087911","authorId":"3527667613087911","name":"SullivanRrr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6e743508fdcea73d01327da840eb95a2","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"authorIdStr":"3527667613087911","idStr":"3527667613087911"},"content":"then to the Mars [Cool]","text":"then to the Mars [Cool]","html":"then to the Mars [Cool]"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":9991810337,"gmtCreate":1660802903331,"gmtModify":1676536402725,"author":{"id":"3574114936019192","authorId":"3574114936019192","name":"Ivanwq888","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/4fe45089f71149c3b53c6bd86e62c4a5","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3574114936019192","idStr":"3574114936019192"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"This is funny ","listText":"This is funny ","text":"This is funny","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9991810337","repostId":"2260471844","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2260471844","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1660800986,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2260471844?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-18 13:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is Bed Bath & Beyond Stock a Buy?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2260471844","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The struggling retailer has become Reddit's latest obsession.","content":"<div>\n<p>KEY POINTSBed Bath & Beyond briefly became a penny stock last month.However, the shares have since doubled in a massive short squeeze.Those gains made it the most-talked-about stock on Reddit.Back in ...</p>\n\n<a href=\"https://www.fool.com/investing/2022/08/17/is-bed-bath-beyond-stock-a-buy/\">Source Link</a>\n\n</div>\n","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; RC is the retailer’s second-largest holder after BlackRock Inc., according to data compiled by Bloomberg, with an 11.8% stake as of April 21.Bed Bath & Beyond has risen more than 400% from a late-July low as retail investors embraced it. The company has fared less well on the fundamental side of things lately, dismissing former Chief Executive Officer Mark Tritton in June after another downbeat quarterly report.Cohen had grown fed up with Tritton’s performance and pushed for his ouster, a person familiar with Cohen’s thinking said at the time, but continued to believe the company’s Buybuy Baby unit was a promising and undervalued asset. The filing suggests Cohen’s patience for a Bed Bath & Beyond turnaround is wearing still thinner.RC Ventures and Bed Bath & Beyond didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.Bed Bath & Beyond shares were down 16.81% to $19.20 in after-hours trading.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1126,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9992961989,"gmtCreate":1661245626343,"gmtModify":1676536482177,"author":{"id":"3574114936019192","authorId":"3574114936019192","name":"Ivanwq888","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/4fe45089f71149c3b53c6bd86e62c4a5","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3574114936019192","idStr":"3574114936019192"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"But today BBBY hiring staff ","listText":"But today BBBY hiring staff ","text":"But today BBBY hiring staff","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9992961989","repostId":"1165787509","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1165787509","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1661212282,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1165787509?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-23 07:51","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Even Suppliers Are Giving Up on Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) Stock","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1165787509","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"Bed Bath & Beyond(BBBY) is down 16% today, adding to last week’s brutal plunge.According to one repo","content":"<div>\n<p>Bed Bath & Beyond(BBBY) is down 16% today, adding to last week’s brutal plunge.According to one report, suppliers have stopped shipping its goods due to lack of payment.The company has been tumbling ...</p>\n\n<a href=\"https://investorplace.com/2022/08/even-suppliers-are-giving-up-on-bed-bath-beyond-bbby-stock/\">Source Link</a>\n\n</div>\n","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; What’s behind BBBY’s plummet today?It appears Bed Bath & Beyond is continued its plunge following reports that some of the home retailer’s suppliers have ceased shipping products due to non-payment. According to Bloomberg, several creditors have revoked coverage of BBBY, leading the company to fall behind on payments for its inventory. It’s truly the icing on top of the meme cake that BBBY has constructed.Indeed, last week, Ryan Cohen sold his 11.8% stake in the volatile meme stock. Unfortunately for fans, Cohen’s sale sparked a massive selloff. This is clearly reflected in the BBBY stock price.Many believed Cohen’s stake was a positive sign. Many hoped Cohen, the founder of Chewy(NYSE:CHWY) and current GameStop(NYSE:GME) chairman would return the company to generating cash. As such, with his departure, it’s no surprise to see many investors lose faith.Is There Hope Left for BBBY Stock?Bed Bath & Beyond’s tumble has put a spotlight on the company’s recent failures. In late June, the retailer announced net sales were down 25%, with negative cash flow of $400,000. As investors have abandoned the company en masse, its funding and liquidity issues have become even more apparent.BBBY has floated off of its overextended share price for quite some time. Indeed, BBBY hit as high as $30 on Aug. 17 before its dramatic fall. Currently shares are trading for $9.24, a level many analysts believe is still too high.Bed Bath & Beyond remains a cautionary tale. While it is easy to underestimate the staying power of meme stocks, the path forward for BBBY is hazy to say the least.According to Wedbush analyst Seth Basham, the company may well be on the way to bankruptcy.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"BBBY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2841,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
