Here’s what investors want to know.</span></p><p>First Republic Bank’s $30 billion injection from America’s biggest banks to help shore up confidence in the California-based lender and the overall U.S. banking system isn’t yet a mission accomplished.</p><p>U.S. stocks continued to slide on Friday, with shares of financials under sharp pressure overall, but with shares of First Republic down 33.8%, or 81% on the year so far, according to FactSet.</p><p>“I think one of the reasons why First Republic is down today has nothing to do with the fact that people are still concerned about if it is going to go under,” said Mark Stoeckle, CEO and senior portfolio manager at Adams Funds.</p><p>“Investors are trying to wrap their heads around what it means for its business model and for earnings,” Stoeckle said, particularly with lenders and other financial institutions forced to recalibrate in the wake of the Federal Reserve’s aggressive pace of interest rate hikes.</p><p>“We are only a week into this,” Stoeckle said. “What it’s going to take is time.”</p><p>Higher rates have resulted in some $620 billion of unrealized losses at U.S. banks, as “safe,” low-coupon Treasury and agency mortgage securities from 2020 and 2021 have eroded in value as yields have risen.</p><p>Another factor has been depositors migrating cash into today’s higher yielding Treasurys for income, including the 2-year about a week ago hit 5%, before it pulled back to 3.8%.</p><h2>Fear of unknown risks</h2><p>Wild swings in bank stocks this week and in Treasury yields,as well as jitters about whether the Federal Reserve will keep raising its policy interest rate had investors navigating one of the worst weeks of volatility since the 2008 global financial crisis.</p><p>“Many market participants have only experienced a systemic credit crunch once in their professional careers, and the ghost of the financial crisis and the Covid-19 market meltdown are their only historical comparisons,” said Steven Ricchiuto, U.S. chief economist at Mizuho Securities, in a Friday note.</p><p>Ricchiuto cautioned against being “too hasty to draw parallels,” but also said it doesn’t mean there are “no real consequences” in financial markets following the failures of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank, and emergency funding this week obtained by Credit Suisse and First Republic.</p><p>He expects liquidity in the system to be reduced, consolidation in the banking system and for banks to clean up “their balance sheets of bad assets while raising additional capital.”</p><p>Mike Mullaney, director of global market research at Boston Partners, said investors also will be keeping a close eye on how much banks end up relying on Fed facilities for liquidity.</p><p>Borrowing at the Fed’s discount window rose to $153 billion in the past week through Wednesday, an record high, “but below 2009 levels as a share of aggregate U.S. bank deposits,” according to BofA Global.</p><p>Another $11.9 billion was borrowed through a new Bank Term Funding Program rolled out about a week ago by the central bank.</p><p>“There’s no question there’s been an increase in borrowing at the discount window, but most of that is the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.,” Mullaney said, adding that’s likely related to their takeover of recently failed banks.</p><p>“The wild card is the unknown,” Mullaney said. “We just don’t know if there are other SVBs lurking out there.”</p><p>Another source of anxiety is what the Fed will do with interest rates at its meeting next week on March 21-22.</p><p>It has been a volatile for traders in fed funds futures, but as of Friday, they were pricing in about a 70% chance of a 25 basis point hike to the Fed’s policy rate to a 4.75%-5% range.</p><p>“I will say this, the important question is: What does the Fed do next week if they don’t hike rates,” Mullaney said. “What’s the message they send if they don’t? The company is also still lapping the boom in COVID-19 tests and vaccines, making comparisons difficult.</p><p>Last month, the stock was flagging after the company cut its full-year guidance following the third-quarter earnings report and said bottom-line growth in fiscal 2024 will be modest as well.</p><p>In the report, U.S. retail comparable sales were essentially flat, falling 0.2%, while retail comps at its Boots UK stores were up 13.4%. Overall revenue rose 8.6% to $35.42 billion with the help of acquisitions, which beat revenue at $34.25 billion. On the bottom line, adjusted earnings per share rose just 3% to $1.00, missing estimates at $1.07.</p><p>The company also cut its EPS forecast from a range of $4.45-$4.65 to a new range of $4.00-$4.05 because of weakness among consumers, lower COVID-19 contributions, and macroeconomic cautiousness. In 2024, it called for low- to mid-single-digit adjusted operating income growth, which it said would outpace adjusted EPS growth.</p><p>Walgreens also closed on its acquisition of CareCentrix, a home-based healthcare provider, in the quarter. </p><p>While Walgreens might look cheap after the sell-off and it offers a dividend yield of 6.6%, the company&#39;s strategy to pivot to healthcare has yet to pay off. Acquisitions often fail, and investors should wait for a clearer sign of a turnaround before they buy the stock.</p><h2>2. Salesforce (down 5.4%)</h2><p>During a month when tech stocks generally moved higher, <strong>Salesforce </strong>was moving in the opposite direction after Wall Street blew off the company&#39;s first-quarter earnings report, even as it topped the analyst consensus and raised its earnings guidance for the full year.</p><p>Revenue in the first quarter rose 11% to $8.25 billion, which topped estimates at $8.18 billion. Adjusted earnings per share of $1.69 were up from $0.98 in the quarter a year ago and ahead of the consensus at $1.61.</p><p>The company has been focused on cost-cutting after a round of layoffs and a move to shrink its real estate footprint. Looking ahead, the company maintained its full-year guidance of $34.5 billion to $34.7 billion, representing 10% growth, and raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to a range of $7.41 to $7.43.</p><p>Later in the month, the company held an &#34;AI Day,&#34; announcing an artificial-intelligence cloud with a suite of tools that provide generative AI experiences across a range of applications. The event sparked some positive analyst chatter on the stock.</p><p>Though Salesforce&#39;s revenue growth has slowed to an all-time low, the company is committed to controlling costs and improving margins. As a result, UnitedHealth said its medical loss ratio, or the percentage of premiums it spends on claims, will top its full-year range of 82.1%-83.1%.</p><p>During the pandemic, insurers like UnitedHealth largely got a bump from the deal in surgeries, seeing profits rise.</p><p>Though UnitedHealth is best known as an insurance company, it&#39;s a diversified healthcare company that also owns Optum Care, a provider of healthcare services. UnitedHealth has also been a top performer on the stock market throughout its history, and spending on healthcare is only likely to accelerate as baby boomers age into retirement.</p><p>At a price-to-earnings ratio of roughly 22, the stock is priced in line with the <strong>S&amp;P 500</strong> and operates in a recession-proof industry. Let's look at the three worst performers on the blue-chip index to see if any of them are worth buying.1. Walgreens Boots Alliance (down 6.2%)Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA 0.42%) has been struggling for years as its efforts to grow through acquisitions and expand into healthcare services have mostly failed to deliver the hoped-for results. On the bottom line, adjusted earnings per share rose just 3% to $1.00, missing estimates at $1.07.The company also cut its EPS forecast from a range of $4.45-$4.65 to a new range of $4.00-$4.05 because of weakness among consumers, lower COVID-19 contributions, and macroeconomic cautiousness. In 2024, it called for low- to mid-single-digit adjusted operating income growth, which it said would outpace adjusted EPS growth.Walgreens also closed on its acquisition of CareCentrix, a home-based healthcare provider, in the quarter. While Walgreens might look cheap after the sell-off and it offers a dividend yield of 6.6%, the company's strategy to pivot to healthcare has yet to pay off. Salesforce (down 5.4%)During a month when tech stocks generally moved higher, Salesforce was moving in the opposite direction after Wall Street blew off the company's first-quarter earnings report, even as it topped the analyst consensus and raised its earnings guidance for the full year.Revenue in the first quarter rose 11% to $8.25 billion, which topped estimates at $8.18 billion. Adjusted earnings per share of $1.69 were up from $0.98 in the quarter a year ago and ahead of the consensus at $1.61.The company has been focused on cost-cutting after a round of layoffs and a move to shrink its real estate footprint. Looking ahead, the company maintained its full-year guidance of $34.5 billion to $34.7 billion, representing 10% growth, and raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to a range of $7.41 to $7.43.Later in the month, the company held an \"AI Day,\" announcing an artificial-intelligence cloud with a suite of tools that provide generative AI experiences across a range of applications. The event sparked some positive analyst chatter on the stock.Though Salesforce's revenue growth has slowed to an all-time low, the company is committed to controlling costs and improving margins. Much of the tech sector has seen top-line growth slow, and if Salesforce can reaccelerate its growth rate, the stock should be a winner from here.3. UnitedHealth Group (down 1.4%)Finally, UnitedHealth Group, the nation's most valuable healthcare company, underperformed last month after it warned about rising costs resulting from an increase in elective surgeries among older adults.After delaying those surgeries during the pandemic, there's now high demand for them, which is likely to weigh on the company's bottom line. As a result, UnitedHealth said its medical loss ratio, or the percentage of premiums it spends on claims, will top its full-year range of 82.1%-83.1%.During the pandemic, insurers like UnitedHealth largely got a bump from the deal in surgeries, seeing profits rise.Though UnitedHealth is best known as an insurance company, it's a diversified healthcare company that also owns Optum Care, a provider of healthcare services. UnitedHealth has also been a top performer on the stock market throughout its history, and spending on healthcare is only likely to accelerate as baby boomers age into retirement.At a price-to-earnings ratio of roughly 22, the stock is priced in line with the S&P 500 and operates in a recession-proof industry. In 2022, the firm’s projection was even higher, expecting Tesla&#39;s value to reach $4,600 by 2026. </p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Driving ARK&#39;s ambitious expectations for Tesla is its forecast for the company&#39;s autonomous taxi segment.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">“We think Tesla is one of the biggest AI opportunities out there,” said Wood during her appearance in a <em>Bloomberg</em> <em>Daybreak: Asia</em> show on 31 May. </p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Tesla is ARK Innovation ETF’s [ARKK] top holding, weighing over 12% as of 5 July. </p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Notably, Tesla released its compute capacity forecast last week, projecting its AI supercomputer to reach 100 exaflops by October 2024, roughly 20 times more than the 4.5 exaflops it disclosed in September 2022, as shown in the below chart. </p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/29a53a915adbd8799f55380dbc4119de\" tg-width=\"2880\" tg-height=\"1621\"/></p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Although the robotaxi segment currently generates no revenue, ARK Invest ultimately believes in Tesla’s ability to capitalise on this market opportunity.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">Warren Buffett’s bear case </h2><p style=\"text-align: start;\">By contrast, Berkshire Hathaway’s CEO, Warren Buffett, and its Vice Chairman, Charlie Munger, explained why they are reluctant to invest in Tesla during the firm’s annual meeting in May.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">“Elon has a dedication to solving the impossible,” said Buffett.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">The superinvestor acknowledged Musk’s propensity for tackling exceptionally challenging objectives, mentioning that although he sometimes succeeds, he often falls short. </p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">“We’re different. Warren and I are looking for the easy job,” said Munger, adding, “We don’t want that much failure.”</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">More importantly, when it comes to Tesla, Buffett expressed uncertainty about estimating its future earnings, describing the automobile industry&#39;s transition to EVs as fascinating but highly competitive.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">“I think I know where Apple is going to be in five or ten years, but I don’t know where the car companies are going to be in five or ten years,” said Buffett.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Munger also highlighted that, at the moment, the electric vehicle industry “is imposing huge capital costs and huge risks” that do not align with the investment philosophy of Berkshire Hathaway.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">Stock analysis</h2><p style=\"text-align: start;\">While Tesla shares are +158.85% year-to-date as of Wednesday, 5 July, its stock is expensive based on its price-to-earnings ratio (75.2x) compared to the peer average of 22.9x, according to <em>SimplyWallSt</em>. </p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b3dd8f0ec54f366b4cc6dd003e01a62d\" tg-width=\"1008\" tg-height=\"499\"/></p><p>According to <em>SimplyWallSt</em>’s analysis of share price vs fair value, looking at the firm’s future cash flows, Tesla shares are 75.8% overvalued, indicating a fair value estimate of $159.21 as of 5 July. </p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/38ed45efa97558c27fe84250e7126fa8\" alt=\"Track all markets on TradingView\" title=\"Track all markets on TradingView\" tg-width=\"1004\" tg-height=\"748\"/><span>Track all markets on TradingView</span></p><h2 style=\"text-align: start;\">Leading investors’ 12-month price targets for Tesla</h2><p style=\"text-align: start;\">The below-listed investment firms convey a well-balanced mix of bullish and bearish sentiment in their 12-month price targets for Tesla shares.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/926e13488f064afb21e959df2b6a038f\" tg-width=\"1009\" tg-height=\"351\"/></p><p>Their average 12-month price target for Tesla is $275, which is greater than the price target average from 33 analysts polled by <em>SimplyWallSt</em>, amounting to $212.73, but slightly lower than Tesla’s share price of $279.82 as of 5 July, suggesting that the stock might drop by approximately 1.43% over the next 12 months.</p><h2>Is Tesla an AI stock?</h2><p>According to ARK Invest, the robotaxi market will reach $8 to 10 trillion by 2030, and the firm expects it to make up about 44% of Tesla’s revenue and two-thirds of its enterprise value by 2027. </p><p>&#34;Tesla, many people think, is an auto stock. We don&#39;t. We think it&#39;s much more than that,&#34; said Wood. </p><p>According to ARK Invest, Tesla may launch its taxi service as early as next year, and with a robotaxi platform, the company could generate earnings from both EV sales and recurring ride-hail revenue streams, which could generate ‘SaaS-like’ margins.</p><p>Ultimately, for Wood, the long-term bull case for Tesla rests on the potential of advancement in autonomous driving technology that would enable a fleet of Tesla taxis. </p><p>Similarly, Tom Narayan, lead equity analyst for European autos at RBC Capital Markets, mentioned that 70% of his firm’s valuation for Tesla is focused on its autonomy capabilities in a CNBC interview on 16 June. </p><p>The rest of RBC’s valuation focuses on Tesla’s full self-driving (FSD) software (20%) and cars (10%).</p><p>“The opportunity is so massive for these things that we think this is enough to carry the story for the stock for several years to come,” added Narayan. </p><p>According to RBC Capital Markets, Tesla’s market cap could soar by over $150bn thanks to an approaching rise in demand for autonomous taxis. </p><h2>A realistic projection?</h2><p>A 2022 <em>Fortune Business Insights </em>report predicted the robotaxi market worldwide would surge some 6,000% from $1.7bn in 2021 to $108bn in 2029 - a significantly lower amount than projected by ARK. </p><p>According to an autonomous vehicle market forecast by Next Move Strategy Consulting, the global autonomous vehicle market is projected to reach a size of over $2.3 trillion by 2030, as shown in the chart below. </p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9749228aefb0695eb71dccd1d637683b\" tg-width=\"1000\" tg-height=\"743\"/></p><p>Moreover, level four of automation, which enables fully autonomous driving in passenger cars, is expected to be achieved by 2025, according to the Statista infographic below. </p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4814cbccefc492d7428eaac4db62a207\" tg-width=\"1200\" tg-height=\"1200\"/></p><p>Besides diverging projections on the future size of the global robotaxi market, some analysts also argue that Tesla is still an auto stock. </p><p>Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jones recently told <em>Bloomberg </em>that despite the hype surrounding its AI capabilities, Tesla remains primarily a car company, and its stock direction would depend on the supply and demand of EVs over the next 12 months. </p><p>Craig Irwin, a senior analyst at Roth Capital, echoed the same sentiment when he said that Tesla has no significant advantage in the EV space during a CNBC’s Squawk Box interview on 7 June.</p><p>“Tesla doesn’t have anything that Toyota doesn’t already have,” Irwin said, adding, “The story about robotaxis is just a story still.”</p><h2>Supercharger network deals</h2><p>Over the past month, Tesla secured partnerships with Ford [F], General Motors [GM], and, last week, Rivian [RIVN], enabling the companies to join its Supercharger network and adopt the company’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector. Ultimately, is ARK’s market cap for Tesla realistic?Cathie Wood expects robotaxis to make up about 44% of Tesla’s revenue and two-thirds of its enterprise value by 2027.Stock analysis suggests Tesla shares might drop by 1.43% over the next 12 months from current levels. Tesla stock is +158.85% YTD and ‘expensive’ based on its P/E ratio vs peers as of 5 July. Cathie Wood’s bull case On 20 April, ARK Invest published a report setting a base case scenario of $2,000 per share for Tesla [TSLA] in 2027, representing an impressive 8-fold increase from current levels, predicting that Tesla’s market cap could surpass $6 trillion within the next four years.This bullish forecast indicates the potential for significant market growth, with the bearish case at $1,400 per share and the bullish case at $2,500 per share.Interestingly, however, ARK's outlook for Tesla experienced a notable shift since its 2022 report. We don't. We think it's much more than that,\" said Wood. According to ARK Invest, Tesla may launch its taxi service as early as next year, and with a robotaxi platform, the company could generate earnings from both EV sales and recurring ride-hail revenue streams, which could generate ‘SaaS-like’ margins.Ultimately, for Wood, the long-term bull case for Tesla rests on the potential of advancement in autonomous driving technology that would enable a fleet of Tesla taxis. Similarly, Tom Narayan, lead equity analyst for European autos at RBC Capital Markets, mentioned that 70% of his firm’s valuation for Tesla is focused on its autonomy capabilities in a CNBC interview on 16 June. The rest of RBC’s valuation focuses on Tesla’s full self-driving (FSD) software (20%) and cars (10%).“The opportunity is so massive for these things that we think this is enough to carry the story for the stock for several years to come,” added Narayan. According to RBC Capital Markets, Tesla’s market cap could soar by over $150bn thanks to an approaching rise in demand for autonomous taxis. A realistic projection?A 2022 Fortune Business Insights report predicted the robotaxi market worldwide would surge some 6,000% from $1.7bn in 2021 to $108bn in 2029 - a significantly lower amount than projected by ARK. According to an autonomous vehicle market forecast by Next Move Strategy Consulting, the global autonomous vehicle market is projected to reach a size of over $2.3 trillion by 2030, as shown in the chart below. Moreover, level four of automation, which enables fully autonomous driving in passenger cars, is expected to be achieved by 2025, according to the Statista infographic below. Besides diverging projections on the future size of the global robotaxi market, some analysts also argue that Tesla is still an auto stock. Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jones recently told Bloomberg that despite the hype surrounding its AI capabilities, Tesla remains primarily a car company, and its stock direction would depend on the supply and demand of EVs over the next 12 months. Craig Irwin, a senior analyst at Roth Capital, echoed the same sentiment when he said that Tesla has no significant advantage in the EV space during a CNBC’s Squawk Box interview on 7 June.“Tesla doesn’t have anything that Toyota doesn’t already have,” Irwin said, adding, “The story about robotaxis is just a story still.”Supercharger network dealsOver the past month, Tesla secured partnerships with Ford [F], General Motors [GM], and, last week, Rivian [RIVN], enabling the companies to join its Supercharger network and adopt the company’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector. But there&#39;s something about Tesla that matters <em>way more </em>than this argument.</p><p>Here is the chart that matters, and why it makes Tesla a superior stock to its electric vehicle (EV) competitors.</p><h2>What is the return on capital employed?</h2><p>In a way, Tesla is both an automotive and a technology company. Its unique factories, product plans, and eccentric CEO make it almost as fascinating a story as it is an investment. But you can look at the company&#39;s return on capital employed to get down to brass tacks and illustrate how the business is performing.</p><p>The return on capital employed is a ratio (displayed as a percentage) that shows the return generated on a company&#39;s financial assets. It&#39;s calculated by dividing a company&#39;s earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) by its capital employed. You can think of a business as a machine -- and when you put a dollar of capital into it, how much are you getting out?</p><p>You can compare the return on capital employed between similar companies to get a sense of how efficient each business is.</p><h2>Where Tesla stands out</h2><p>Let&#39;s do that with Tesla, legacy competitors like Ford and General Motors, and start-up <strong>Rivian</strong>. Below, you&#39;ll see that Tesla has a significantly higher ROCE than all of the others -- Rivian&#39;s is profoundly negative at this point:</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/62185667b2a880322017497736ec46ad\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"483\"/></p><p>TSLA Return on Capital Employed data by YCharts</p><p>What explains these numbers? It&#39;s undoubtedly a combination of things, but it could boil down to some observations. First, a company must be profitable to generate a positive ROCE; Rivian is still unprofitable, because it doesn&#39;t manufacture enough vehicles to offset the costs of running its factories.</p><p>Ford and General Motors are profitable, but they are straddling two businesses -- the new and old, electric vehicles and legacy combustion engine cars and trucks. Ford recently split its financials for the two sides of the company apart, disclosing that it lost around $3 billion in the past two years in the EV business and will lose $3 billion more in 2023.</p><h2>Why it makes Tesla a buy</h2><p>Tesla stands out as the most established pure-EV company on the market. Rivian is playing catch-up, and will probably burn billions more in cash as it ramps up production. Meanwhile, Ford and General Motors could see their return on capital employed decrease as they invest in building their EV businesses. They must also continue balancing two types of vehicles that use different technology -- and that added cost burden may make it difficult to operate as efficiently as Tesla.</p><p>This efficiency stands out when it comes to earnings growth. Analysts expect nearly 25% annual earnings growth from Tesla over the long term, and negative growth for Ford and General Motors. Even at a market cap of $600 billion, Tesla has a case for a growth stock label. However, while this rally may have legs, there are still some blue-chip stocks to avoid.</p><p>Blue-chip stocks are sought after for their financial stability. These companies tend to stack quarter after quarter of solid revenue and earnings. And many pay dividends, which adds to their appeal.</p><p>But no stock moves in the same direction all the time. Some investors are content to hold their stocks, knowing that a turnaround is just a matter of time. However, sometimes a better course of action is to sell and wait for another opportunity.</p><p>Remember, selling a stock doesn’t mean saying goodbye to a stock forever. It may not even mean exiting a position completely. But it does mean recognizing when the opportunity cost of holding a stock is more than the price to sell.</p><p>That’s the case with these three stocks. And that’s why they make this list of blue-chip stocks to avoid.</p><h2 id=\"id_1253588936\">Target (TGT)</h2><p>I put <strong>Target </strong>(NYSE: <strong>TGT</strong>) on a list of stocks to sell in June. Despite some periods of growth, TGT stock has been flat over the last 30 days. However, the stock may have found a floor after tumbling 18% since May.</p><p>The acute reason for the sell-off is well known. And while it was part of my consideration in May, it isn’t now. In the larger picture, the company is strong enough to overcome it. However, just because the stock may have found a bottom doesn’t mean it’s ready to rip higher.</p><p>To begin with, retail sales are softening. That offsets any benefits the company may get after rightsizing its inventory.</p><p>Second, as I wrote in May, Target expects the ongoing issue of theft and organized retail crime to negatively impact profits by $500 million year-over-year. The company’s earnings in the prior quarter were better than expected but still lower than the prior year.</p><p>Analysts are forecasting full-year profits to grow by 24%. That looks less likely, particularly if retail sales continue to soften. You can wait until the company reports June earnings to make your decision on TGT stock.</p><h2 id=\"id_1617864534\">Netflix (NFLX)</h2><p><strong>Netflix </strong>(NASDAQ: <strong>NFLX</strong>) is up 10% in the last 30 days and is getting ready to report earnings that may move the stock higher. The company’s earnings call will focus on the success of Netflix’s crackdown on password sharing and consumer adoption of its low-price Standard With Ads platform.</p><p>I have a different concern. The company relies heavily on original content to differentiate itself in an increasingly saturated and competitive market. And the current Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strike doesn’t help matters.</p><p>According to industry experts, streaming services will likely run out of new content by October. The strike could be over by then, but what if it’s not? Historically, Netflix has had a lower churn rate than many streaming services. And to be fair, the SAG-AFTRA strike will affect all streaming services. But it’s still a reason for concern and why it makes this list of blue-chip stocks to avoid.</p><h2 id=\"id_434644070\">Moderna (MRNA)</h2><p><strong>Moderna </strong>(NASDAQ: <strong>MRNA</strong>) makes this list of blue-chip stocks to avoid for a specific reason. The company’s pipeline, while robust, does not show any vaccines that are likely to be approved in the next 12 months.</p><p>The company is hoping that a $1 billion investment in China will boost its stock, but there’s no guarantee that it will. Specifically, Moderna is reportedly entering a memorandum of understanding and land collaboration agreement. That will allow Moderna to research, develop and manufacture vaccines that use the company’s mRNA technology in China. Initially, these vaccines would only be available in China.</p><p>Analysts suggest there could be a 39% upside to MRNA stock. And if you only look at the company’s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio, which is around 10x, it may seem compelling. But those earnings are expected to decline sharply in the next 12 months.
