Headlines regarding Apple’s introduction of iPhone-based card acceptance have also weighed on SQ,” Kupferberg said in a client note.Citi analyst Peter Christiansen resumed research coverage on Block with a Buy, $220.00 price target.“We see the SQ+APT value creation opportunity to be more than just (i) ecosystem integration or (ii) a globalization accelerant – two very powerful rationales nonetheless. For us, we see the combination expanding both the new product development canvas (TAM vectors), as well as Block’s product development capabilities (asset extensions, time-to-market, differentiation),” Christiansen wrote in the report.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SQ":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2399,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9092084520,"gmtCreate":1644491655401,"gmtModify":1676533932870,"author":{"id":"3578653033561627","authorId":"3578653033561627","name":"Jefflim","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/59e2bd04cc5de36cce93c966dde9390b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578653033561627","authorIdStr":"3578653033561627"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"H","listText":"H","text":"H","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9092084520","repostId":"1197436916","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1398,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9096242639,"gmtCreate":1644410756930,"gmtModify":1676533922385,"author":{"id":"3578653033561627","authorId":"3578653033561627","name":"Jefflim","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/59e2bd04cc5de36cce93c966dde9390b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578653033561627","authorIdStr":"3578653033561627"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"H","listText":"H","text":"H","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9096242639","repostId":"2210571558","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2210571558","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1644404793,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2210571558?lang=&edition=full_marsco","pubTime":"2022-02-09 19:06","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Ultra-Popular Stocks That Can Crash in 2022","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2210571558","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Select analysts and investment banks foresee these widely held stocks tanking up to 65%.","content":"

Even though the broader market underwent its steepest correction in nearly two years to begin 2022, optimists have been rewarded handsomely for their patience. No matter how many crashes or corrections the market endures, history has shown that the major U.S. indexes tend to increase in value over time.

But just because iconic indexes like the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 rise over time, it doesn't mean every stock will be a winner. Based on a wide gamut of Wall Street price targets, select analysts and investment banks foresee the possibility of these ultra-popular stocks crashing in 2022.

Tesla Motors: Implied downside of 65%

There might not be a more popular stock with a wider range of expected outcomes from Wall Street than electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla Motors (TSLA). In one column are a small handful of investment banks calling for the EV giant to reach $1,400 (or more) over the next year. In the other column is JPMorgan analyst Ryan Brinkman, who, even after recently upping his firms' price target on Tesla, expects shares to plummet 65% to $325.

This wide variance of Wall Street price targets for Tesla looks to be a reflection of the company's existing competitive advantages and innovation battling against constant delays and its lofty valuation.

In terms of the former, Tesla still offers clear-cut competitive edges in the EV space. While the company's Battery Day presentation in 2020 was perceived as lackluster by Wall Street, it nevertheless highlighted the power, capacity, and range advantage the company holds over other EV producers.

Tesla also has the capital and infrastructure necessary to significantly expand its output. Keeping in mind that roughly 750,000 EV deliveries was the expectation at the beginning of 2021, Tesla managed to deliver more than 936,000 EVs by year's end. Mind you, this delivery increase takes into account the semiconductor chip shortages and supply chain issues the entire auto industry has been contending with.

But Tesla isn't alone in the EV space. There are a bevy of established automakers with deep pockets, plenty of existing infrastructure, and well-known brand names, which'll give the EV kingpin a run for its money. This is a cyclical industry that's historically been valued at a mid- to high-single-digit price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio. Thus, Tesla's triple-digit P/E ratio hasn't sat well with some fundamental purists.

What's more, the company has a long history of overpromising and under-delivering. This isn't to say that Tesla and CEO Elon Musk don't deserve credit for a number of innovative EVs and solutions. Rather, it's to point out that the timeline when products are expected to debut rarely comes to fruition. For instance, the Cybertruck will, at minimum, be delayed by at least two years from its forecast launch date.

Although Tesla is the first automaker to build itself from the ground up to mass production in more than five decades, it still has a lot to prove.

Bed Bath & Beyond: Implied downside of 41%

Another ultra-popular stock that could be primed for a crash in 2022, according to Wall Street, is home furnishings retailer Bed Bath & Beyond . Bank of America Securities analyst Jason Haas has walked down the company's price target a couple of times, with the latest forecast calling for $9.50 a share. Considering that Bed Bath & Beyond closed above $16 last weekend, we're talking about an expected drop of 41%.

Though shares of the company are well off their 52-week high, they've effectively quadrupled from their pandemic low. There look to be two reasons for this bounce. To begin with, the company has predominantly remained profitable despite challenges in the brick-and-mortar retail space.

The other catalyst has been retail investors. Bed Bath & Beyond became part of the meme stock movement in 2021 and was heavily targeted by retail buyers hoping to catch a short squeeze.

While even I, at times, have been a fan of the company's turnaround efforts, Haas's price target does give credence to the numerous challenges Bed Bath & Beyond is facing. In no particular order, the company is dealing with:

Supply chain concerns caused by the pandemic.

Historically high inflation that's pinching already razor-thin margins.

Increasing competition from online retailers that have lower overhead and an easier pathway to undercut Bed Bath & Beyond on price.

According to Haas, even with the company adding new fulfillment options, promoting direct-to-consumer sales, focusing on brand loyalty, and selling noncore assets to bolster its balance sheet, there's still a good chance its sales will lag over the next two years. Based on the comparable sales decline of 7% the company delivered in the November-ended quarter, Haas's skepticism may well be warranted.

Ford Motor Company: Implied downside of 33%

Take solace, Tesla investors, because you're not alone. According to analyst Adam Jonas of Morgan Stanley, Ford Motor Company could crash to $12 in 2022. This implies it would lose an additional third of its value after shedding over a quarter of its market cap since Jan. 14.

A recent research note from Jonas laid out the multiple reasons for his bearishness on Ford. This included the expectation for higher input costs, growing competition in the EV space, a cyclical mean reversion for the entire auto industry, and investors having unrealistic expectations for EV scaling, even in a post-pandemic environment.

Among the points hit by Jonas, supply chain concerns and inflation would appear to be the most troublesome. Chip shortages clearly hurt Ford's production volume last year, and rapidly rising new and used vehicle prices could send buyers to the sidelines. In the very near term, Jonas' thesis may hold some water.

But over the longer run, I believe Ford to be an exceptionally inexpensive company that has a multidecade growth opportunity on its doorstep. Ford's more than a century of brand history, as well as its existing infrastructure, will help it transition to become a key EV player in the U.S. and China over time.

Additionally, the company's F-Series truck (specifically the F-150) has been the top-selling truck in the U.S. for 45 straight years, and more importantly the best-selling vehicle, period, in the U.S. for 40 years. This type of dominance and brand loyalty will translate positively as Ford beefs up spending on EVs in preparation for rolling out 30 new EVs globally by 2025.

The price is also right with Ford. Shares can be purchased for less than nine times forecast earnings for 2022. With a sustainably strong growth opportunity fueled by EVs, Jonas' bearishness can be taken with a grain of salt by long-term investors.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Ultra-Popular Stocks That Can Crash in 2022
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Ultra-Popular Stocks That Can Crash in 2022\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-09 19:06 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Even though the broader market underwent its steepest correction in nearly two years to begin 2022, optimists have been rewarded handsomely for their patience. Barry McCarthy, the former chief financial officer of Spotify Technology SA and Netflix Inc., will become CEO and president and join Peloton’s board.

The New York company will also cut roughly 2,800 jobs, affecting 20% of its corporate positions, to help cope with the drop-off in demand and widening losses. The cuts won’t affect Peloton’s instructor roster or content.A little over two weeks ago, activist investor Blackwells Capital LLC called for Peloton to fire Mr. Foleyand explore a sale of the company, which the Journal has reported is attracting potential suitors including Amazon.com Inc.“We are open to exploring any opportunity that could create value for Peloton shareholders,” Mr. Foley said in an interview. Mr. Foley, a former Barnes & Noble Inc. executive who co-founded Peloton 10 years ago last month, declined to comment further. The naming of a new CEO could indicate that Peloton sees an independent future for itself, or at least doesn’t want to sell at the current depressed share price. Any deal would likely require Mr. Foley’s support, as he and other insiders have shares that gave them control of over 80% of Peloton’s voting power as of Sept. 30, according to a securities filing.Peloton was once a pandemic darling. As homebound customers ordered its exercise equipment and streamed its virtual classes, its valuation soared. The company’s fortunes have recently sagged, and its stock had been trading below its September 2019 IPO price of $29 a share as lockdowns eased and gyms started to fill up again. The company’s value has fallen from a high of around $50 billion roughly a year ago to around $8 billion last week, before its shares rose 21% Monday on news of potential suitors.Peloton has said it was planning cost cuts and reviewing the size of its workforce and production levels. Investors have been awaiting details of its plans, which will accompany fiscal second-quarter results Tuesday.Messrs. Foley and McCarthy said that the company had long been planning to hire a new CEO and that Mr. McCarthy entered the picture in the past few weeks.“I have always thought there has to be a better CEO for Peloton than me,” said Mr. Foley, 51. “Barry is more perfectly suited than anybody I could’ve imagined.”Mr. McCarthy, who is in his late 60s and plans to move from California to New York, said his strength is a deep understanding of content-driven subscription models, while Mr. Foley’s are in product development and marketing.“Together we can make a complete grown-up and build a really remarkable business,” Mr. McCarthy said. He has consulted for Peloton investor Technology Crossover Ventures, sits on the boards of Instacart Inc. and Spotify, and was CFO of the music-streaming service until early 2020.Peloton is making other personnel changes: William Lynch, the company’s president, will step down from his executive role but remain on the board; Erik Blachford, a director since 2015, will leave the board; and two new directors will be added. The new directors are Angel Mendez, who runs a private artificial-intelligence company focused on supply-chain management, and Jonathan Mildenhall, the former chief marketing officer of Airbnb Inc. and co-founder of branding company TwentyFirstCenturyBrand.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"PTON":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1851,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9098737813,"gmtCreate":1644228629068,"gmtModify":1676533901666,"author":{"id":"3578653033561627","authorId":"3578653033561627","name":"Jefflim","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/59e2bd04cc5de36cce93c966dde9390b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578653033561627","authorIdStr":"3578653033561627"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"H","listText":"H","text":"H","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9098737813","repostId":"2209039320","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2209039320","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1644227708,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2209039320?lang=&edition=full_marsco","pubTime":"2022-02-07 17:55","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Pricerunner Sues Google for 2.1 Bln Euros, Prepares for Long Fight","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2209039320","media":"Reuters","summary":"(Reuters) - Swedish price comparison firm PriceRunner said on Monday it is suing Alphabet-owned Goog","content":"

(Reuters) - Swedish price comparison firm PriceRunner said on Monday it is suing Alphabet-owned Google for about 2.1 billion euros ($2.40 billion), the latest firm to take legal action alleging the search giant manipulated search results.

Google in November lost an appeal against a 2.42-billion-euro fine it received in 2017 which found using its own price comparison shopping service gave the company an unfair advantage over smaller European rivals.

"They are still abusing the market to a very high extent and haven't changed basically anything," PriceRunner CEO Mikael Lindahl told Reuters in an interview.

PriceRunner, which is in the process of being bought by fintech Klarna, said a lawsuit it filed in Sweden aims to make Google pay compensation for the profit it has lost in the UK since 2008, as well as in Sweden and Denmark since 2013.

Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Lindahl said PriceRunner is prepared to fight for many years, has secured tens of millions of euros in external financing, and has steps in place in the event it does not win.

The European Commission's 2017 fine was the result of a seven-year investigation triggered by scores of complaints that Google distorted internet search results to favour its shopping service, harming both rivals and consumers.

The Commission found that Google had systematically given prominent placement to its own comparison shopping service and demoted rival comparison shopping services in its search results.

Axel Springer's price comparison shopping service Idealo then sued Google in 2019 for 500 million euros.

Investment firm Creades in November agreed to sell PriceRunner to Swedish payments firm Klarna for 1.06 billion Swedish crowns ($124.36 million).

The deal is expected to close in the first quarter.

($1 = 0.8749 euros)

","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The clean energy infrastructure company increased its dividend by 15% last year, boosting the yield to nearly 3.8%. That helped power 30% total returns last year, bringing its two-year total to more than 72%.

The company has plenty of fuel to continue growing, which was one of the key takeaways from its recent fourth-quarter report. Here's a look at those numbers and what's ahead for the clean energy company.

Another strong year

NextEra Energy Partners generated $1.36 billion of adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) last year along with $584 million in cash available for distribution (CAFD), up 7.7% and 2.5%, respectively. The main EBITDA driver was the impact of new projects added to the portfolio in the past year. Those new additions and lower corporate interest expenses helped power CAFD growth.

Those results don't reflect the full impact of the company's earnings potential due to the timing of when it closed acquisitions last year. Its year-end portfolio's adjusted EBITDA run rate was between $1.635 billion and $1.795 billion, 26.1% higher than its 2021 full-year tally at the midpoint. Meanwhile, the portfolio's CAFD run rate was $640 million to $775 million, 16.4% above its 2021 total at the midpoint.

Last year, NextEra Energy Partners acquired about 1.9 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy and storage assets from its sponsor, utility NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE). In addition, it purchased about 500 megawatts (MW) of wind energy projects in two transactions with third-party sellers. These deals helped drive last year's earnings and CAFD growth while setting the stage for continued growth in 2022.

Adding more power to the dividend growth engine

The clean energy company continued to secure additional growth during the fourth quarter. In November, it exercised its right to purchase 100% of the outstanding minority equity interests in a portfolio of wind and solar assets supporting its 2018 convertible equity portfolio financing (CEPF) with a private equity fund. It paid $885 million in cash-and-stock to acquire these interests.

The company also secured additional low-cost financing during the quarter. It closed a new 10-year, $820 million CEPF to help support the acquisition of a 50% interest in 2.52 GW of renewable energy projects and 115 MW of storage assets from NextEra.

These deals enhanced the company's 2022 growth outlook. It currently expects to end the year with an EBITDA run-rate between $1.775 billion and $1.975 billion and a CAFD run-rate of $675 million to $765 million. That implies growth at the midpoint of 9.3% for EBITDA and 5.9% for CAFD.

This forecast supports NextEra Energy Partners' view that it can grow its dividend by another 12% to 15% this year while maintaining a dividend payout ratio in the low-80% range. Meanwhile, it believes it can continue growing the dividend at the pace through at least 2024.

Two factors support that longer-term dividend growth forecast. First, it has an abundance of acquisition opportunities. NextEra Energy alone has a vast portfolio of clean energy assets it can drop down to the partnership to help fund its extensive development pipeline. In addition, NextEra Energy Partners can purchase additional assets from third-party sellers. Meanwhile, the company continues to secure attractive financing to support its growth. Institutional investors like private equity funds continue to provide low-cost CEPF vehicles to close acquisitions. That enables the company to time the market to issue equity and retire this funding with less dilution to existing investors.

A powerful dividend growth stock

NextEra Energy Partners continues to offer investors the best of both worlds: income and growth. That makes it an excellent option for investors seeking a fast-rising passive income stream powered by clean energy.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
This 3.8%-Yielding Dividend Stock Has Lots of Growth Ahead
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThis 3.8%-Yielding Dividend Stock Has Lots of Growth Ahead\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-01-30 14:41 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
NextEra Energy Partners continues to deliver high-powered dividend growth. At one point in time, Southeast Asian ride-hailing and delivery company Grab Holdings (NASDAQ:GRAB) represented the largest ever special purpose acquisition company merger (SPAC)to date. That’s mind-blowing when we consider that many U.S. investors haven’t even heard of GRAB stock.

The company is well-known in certain regions of the world, though. In fact, Grab is Southeast Asia’s largest ride-hailing and delivery company. It has operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and serves more than 187 million users.

Yet, while Grab the company may be well-known in Southeast Asia, GRAB stock isn’t particularly popular on Wall Street. As we’ll see, it’s in imminent danger of becoming a penny stock, which can informally be defined as a stock that represents a small company and trades for less than $5 per share.

That’s a potential problem, and a deep dive into the company’s financials will paint a dark picture of a ride-hailing business with major issues. So, if you’re not yet convinced to stay on the sidelines, stick around and we’ll discover together just how much damage has already been done.

A Closer Look at GRAB Stock

Grab made its debuton the Nasdaq on Dec. 2, 2021, after the company reverse-merged with blank-check company Altimeter Growth Corp.

The stock started off near $9, and it was all downhill from there. By the end of 2021, the share price has already declined to around $7.

There was more pain ahead as GRAB stock tumbled to $5 and change on Jan. 21, 2022. To be honest, it’s too soon to establish any support levels for the stock.

Besides, support levels are established when a stock bounces off of a particular price level. When a stock just keeps falling, there’s no support to speak of.

Going forward, keep an eye on that critical $5 level. GRAB stock could easily plummet to new lows if the buyers can’t hold $5.

Big Company, Big Problems

With a market capitalization of almost $21 billion, prospective investors might assume that Grab Holdings is a surefire winner.

It’s a large company, but InvestorPlacecontributor Alex Sirois pointed out some equally large problems that Grab Holdings will have to deal with.

As Sirois explained, “Widespread lockdowns in the region due to recurring waves of COVID-19 have hurt demand for Grab’s ride-hailing services and weighed on revenue despite an increase in food-delivery volumes.”

We’ll discuss the financial issues in a moment. Sirois’s concerns about Covid-19 in Southeast Asia are duly noted, though – and they’re echoed by some big-bank analysts, apparently.

Reportedly, analysts at Asian Development Bank expect that Southeast Asian economies will recover at “a much slower pace” than previously thought.

Lockdowns Weighing on Revenues

This, as you might have surmised, is due to the recurrence of Covid-19 in the region. In 2022, the Asian Development Bank analysts expect Southeast Asia to grow by only 5%, slightly lower than their previous forecast.

Clearly, Covid-19 lockdowns have been a problem for Grab Holdings and could continue to weigh on the company’s revenue and earnings.

Indeed, for 2021’s third quarter, Grab Holdings acknowledged that the company’s revenue was down 9% year-over-year “as a result of a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.”

Turning to the bottom-line results, Grab Holdings’ third-quarter 2021 earnings loss increased $366 million, to a staggering loss of $988 million.

Hence, investors should steer clear as a nearly billion-dollar quarterly earnings loss is quite worrisome.

The Takeaway

Admittedly, Grab Holdings is a famous company in Southeast Asia. It’s a large business, as we’ve learned, with a sizable market capitalization.

Yet, this company has major problems. In particular, Covid-19 creates challenges for businesses in Southeast Asia right now.

Then, there are the financial issues. It has operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and serves more than 187 million users.Yet, while Grab the company may be well-known in Southeast Asia, GRAB stock isn’t particularly popular on Wall Street. So, if you’re not yet convinced to stay on the sidelines, stick around and we’ll discover together just how much damage has already been done.A Closer Look at GRAB StockGrab made its debuton the Nasdaq on Dec. 2, 2021, after the company reverse-merged with blank-check company Altimeter Growth Corp. The stock started off near $9, and it was all downhill from there. By the end of 2021, the share price has already declined to around $7.There was more pain ahead as GRAB stock tumbled to $5 and change on Jan. 21, 2022. To be honest, it’s too soon to establish any support levels for the stock.Besides, support levels are established when a stock bounces off of a particular price level. When a stock just keeps falling, there’s no support to speak of.Going forward, keep an eye on that critical $5 level. GRAB stock could easily plummet to new lows if the buyers can’t hold $5.Big Company, Big ProblemsWith a market capitalization of almost $21 billion, prospective investors might assume that Grab Holdings is a surefire winner. It’s a large company, but InvestorPlacecontributor Alex Sirois pointed out some equally large problems that Grab Holdings will have to deal with.As Sirois explained, “Widespread lockdowns in the region due to recurring waves of COVID-19 have hurt demand for Grab’s ride-hailing services and weighed on revenue despite an increase in food-delivery volumes.”We’ll discuss the financial issues in a moment. Sirois’s concerns about Covid-19 in Southeast Asia are duly noted, though – and they’re echoed by some big-bank analysts, apparently.Reportedly, analysts at Asian Development Bank expect that Southeast Asian economies will recover at “a much slower pace” than previously thought.Lockdowns Weighing on RevenuesThis, as you might have surmised, is due to the recurrence of Covid-19 in the region. In 2022, the Asian Development Bank analysts expect Southeast Asia to grow by only 5%, slightly lower than their previous forecast.Clearly, Covid-19 lockdowns have been a problem for Grab Holdings and could continue to weigh on the company’s revenue and earnings.Indeed, for 2021’s third quarter, Grab Holdings acknowledged that the company’s revenue was down 9% year-over-year “as a result of a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.”Turning to the bottom-line results, Grab Holdings’ third-quarter 2021 earnings loss increased $366 million, to a staggering loss of $988 million.Hence, investors should steer clear as a nearly billion-dollar quarterly earnings loss is quite worrisome. The TakeawayAdmittedly, Grab Holdings is a famous company in Southeast Asia. It’s a large business, as we’ve learned, with a sizable market capitalization.Yet, this company has major problems. In particular, Covid-19 creates challenges for businesses in Southeast Asia right now. Then, there are the financial issues. Grab Holdings is moving in the wrong direction when it comes to revenue and earnings. It’s understandable if you want to diversify your investments into different world regions. However, not all international stocks are equally worthy of your investment capital. So, it’s probably a good idea to avoid GRAB stock for the time being. You can always check back later to see if the company’s financial situation improves.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GRAB":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":948,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9005949289,"gmtCreate":1642156750357,"gmtModify":1676533687380,"author":{"id":"3578653033561627","authorId":"3578653033561627","name":"Jefflim","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/59e2bd04cc5de36cce93c966dde9390b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578653033561627","authorIdStr":"3578653033561627"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"H","listText":"H","text":"H","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":10,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9005949289","repostId":"1190793424","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":606,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9002474054,"gmtCreate":1642084964057,"gmtModify":1676533679270,"author":{"id":"3578653033561627","authorId":"3578653033561627","name":"Jefflim","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/59e2bd04cc5de36cce93c966dde9390b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578653033561627","authorIdStr":"3578653033561627"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"H","listText":"H","text":"H","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9002474054","repostId":"1168563025","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1168563025","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1642084459,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1168563025?lang=&edition=full_marsco","pubTime":"2022-01-13 22:34","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Virgin Galactic shares fell more than 14% in morning trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1168563025","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Virgin Galactic shares fell more than 14% in morning trading. Namely, investors have been closely watching for months to hear when officials will begin tapering their purchases of Treasury and mortgage securities, which have been taking place at a pace of $120 billion per month for more than a year during the pandemic.
\n
This asset purchase program had been a major policy underpinning U.S. equity markets this year, providing liquidity throughout the economic crisis induced by the virus. But as the economy makes headway in recovering, Fed officials' talk around pulling in the reins on this program has started to increase.
\n
Last week, Federal Reserve officials signaled the announcement of the start of tapering was edging closer. According to the meeting minutes from the Federal Reserve's July meeting, most monetary policymakers believed the economy will have made enough progress toward recovering to warrant tapering.
\n
\"Most participants noted that, provided that the economy were to evolve broadly as they anticipated, they judged that it could be appropriate to start reducing the pace of asset purchases this year because they saw the Committee’s 'substantial further progress' criterion as satisfied with respect to the price-stability goal and as close to being satisfied with respect to the maximum employment goal,\" according to the FOMC minutes.
\n
But as many pundits have noted, the central bank still has a host of meetings left in 2021 to serve as a platform for further discussing or announcing tapering. As a result, Jackson Hole this week may cause few ripples, with policymakers like Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell sticking to their previously telegraphed language about waiting to see further improvements in the labor market before escalating talk of tapering further.
\n
\"Jackson Hole next week is certainly a target for when we might hear some actual firm language around taper. I'm not really expecting much out of Jackson Hole,\" Garrett Melson, Natixis Investment Managers Solutions portfolio strategist, told Yahoo Finance last week. \"We're more in the camp that we probably start to hear something around the November meeting. Perhaps they're as quick as December to start actually implementing the taper. But I'm still more in the camp that January is probably when we begin to see a slow taper, probably in the ballpark of $15 billion per month.\"
\n
\"They're still very, very dovish. They're slightly less dovish,\" he added. \"But that's a little semantics at this point. Taper is very well documented and well known. We know it's coming. It's just a matter of timing and really shouldn't surprise many investors out there.\"
\n
Federal Reserve Board Chair Jerome Powell testifies before Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs hearing to examine the Semiannual Monetary Policy Report to Congress, July 15, 2021, on Capitol Hill. (AP Photo/Jose Luis Magana, file)ASSOCIATED PRESS
\n
As for the ultimate market impact of tapering, if the outcome is anything like the response from the last announcement of tapering in 2023, investors might brace for a momentary bout of volatility and some sector rotation beneath the surface.
\n
\"In 2013, Fed Chair Bernanke's comments about tapering catalyzed a five-day, 40 bp backup in 10-year yields and a 5% drop in the S&P 500,\" said David Kostin, Goldman Sachs' chief U.S. equity strategist, in a note last week. \"The initial signal from the taper tantrum ultimately proved fleeting during a year with extremely strong returns for equities.\"
\n
\"The S&P 500 rebounded 5% in the roughly two months following the tantrum, led higher by the materials, consumer discretionary, and health care sectors,\" he added. \"By December, the S&P 500 had posted a full-year return of 32%. As the Fed reiterated its commitment to accommodative policy, growth outperformed value and cyclical stocks outperformed defensives.\"
\n
Personal spending, income
\n
New economic data on consumer spending and income will also be in focus later this week, with reports on both metrics due for release on Friday.
\n
Consensus economists expect to see personal spending slow to just a 0.4% monthly clip in July, decelerating from June's 1.0% increase.
\n
Just last week, the Commerce Department's data showed retail sales fell more than expected in July, dipping by 1.1%. The print pointed to more moderation in spending as the impact of stimulus checks earlier this year waned further, and lowered the bar for the Bureau of Economic Analysis' monthly personal spending data.
\n
Other data has also underscored the slowdown in consumer spending, especially given the recent spread of the Delta variant starting in the middle of summer.
\n
\"Although services spending started strong in July boosted by the holiday, our aggregated BAC credit and debit card data suggest services spending, particularly for travel and leisure, slowed down noticeably in the second half of the month, potentially due to rising Delta concerns,\" Bank of America economist Michelle Meyer wrote in a note Friday.
\n
Friday's consumer spending report will also come with data on personal income, which is also expected to have ticked up only slightly on a monthly basis. Namely, investors have been closely watching for months to hear when officials will begin tapering their purchases of Treasury and mortgage securities, which have been taking place at a pace of $120 billion per month for more than a year during the pandemic.\nThis asset purchase program had been a major policy underpinning U.S. equity markets this year, providing liquidity throughout the economic crisis induced by the virus. But as the economy makes headway in recovering, Fed officials' talk around pulling in the reins on this program has started to increase.\nLast week, Federal Reserve officials signaled the announcement of the start of tapering was edging closer. According to the meeting minutes from the Federal Reserve's July meeting, most monetary policymakers believed the economy will have made enough progress toward recovering to warrant tapering.\n\"Most participants noted that, provided that the economy were to evolve broadly as they anticipated, they judged that it could be appropriate to start reducing the pace of asset purchases this year because they saw the Committee’s 'substantial further progress' criterion as satisfied with respect to the price-stability goal and as close to being satisfied with respect to the maximum employment goal,\" according to the FOMC minutes.\nBut as many pundits have noted, the central bank still has a host of meetings left in 2021 to serve as a platform for further discussing or announcing tapering. As a result, Jackson Hole this week may cause few ripples, with policymakers like Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell sticking to their previously telegraphed language about waiting to see further improvements in the labor market before escalating talk of tapering further.\n\"Jackson Hole next week is certainly a target for when we might hear some actual firm language around taper. But I'm still more in the camp that January is probably when we begin to see a slow taper, probably in the ballpark of $15 billion per month.\"\n\"They're still very, very dovish. They're slightly less dovish,\" he added. \"But that's a little semantics at this point. Taper is very well documented and well known. We know it's coming. It's just a matter of timing and really shouldn't surprise many investors out there.\"\nFederal Reserve Board Chair Jerome Powell testifies before Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs hearing to examine the Semiannual Monetary Policy Report to Congress, July 15, 2021, on Capitol Hill. (AP Photo/Jose Luis Magana, file)ASSOCIATED PRESS\nAs for the ultimate market impact of tapering, if the outcome is anything like the response from the last announcement of tapering in 2023, investors might brace for a momentary bout of volatility and some sector rotation beneath the surface.\n\"In 2013, Fed Chair Bernanke's comments about tapering catalyzed a five-day, 40 bp backup in 10-year yields and a 5% drop in the S&P 500,\" said David Kostin, Goldman Sachs' chief U.S. equity strategist, in a note last week. \"The initial signal from the taper tantrum ultimately proved fleeting during a year with extremely strong returns for equities.\"\n\"The S&P 500 rebounded 5% in the roughly two months following the tantrum, led higher by the materials, consumer discretionary, and health care sectors,\" he added. \"By December, the S&P 500 had posted a full-year return of 32%. As the Fed reiterated its commitment to accommodative policy, growth outperformed value and cyclical stocks outperformed defensives.\"\nPersonal spending, income\nNew economic data on consumer spending and income will also be in focus later this week, with reports on both metrics due for release on Friday.\nConsensus economists expect to see personal spending slow to just a 0.4% monthly clip in July, decelerating from June's 1.0% increase.\nJust last week, the Commerce Department's data showed retail sales fell more than expected in July, dipping by 1.1%. The print pointed to more moderation in spending as the impact of stimulus checks earlier this year waned further, and lowered the bar for the Bureau of Economic Analysis' monthly personal spending data.\nOther data has also underscored the slowdown in consumer spending, especially given the recent spread of the Delta variant starting in the middle of summer.\n\"Although services spending started strong in July boosted by the holiday, our aggregated BAC credit and debit card data suggest services spending, particularly for travel and leisure, slowed down noticeably in the second half of the month, potentially due to rising Delta concerns,\" Bank of America economist Michelle Meyer wrote in a note Friday.\nFriday's consumer spending report will also come with data on personal income, which is also expected to have ticked up only slightly on a monthly basis. Economists look for a 0.1% increase in July, which would match the pace from the prior month.\nEven with the deceleration in income, however, the personal savings rate may have increased as an early round of child tax credit payments helped offset a slowing pace of income growth, some economists noted.\n\"The advance child tax credit payments delivered this month translated into a lower tax burden and therefore a 1% month-over-month boost to disposable income, consequently leading to a rise in the savings rate to 10.0% from 9.4% in June,\" Meyer predicted.\nEconomic calendar\n\nMonday: Chicago Fed National Activity Index, July (0.09 in June); Markit U.S. Manufacturing PMI, August preliminary (62.8 expected, 63.4 in July); Markit U.S. Services PMI, August preliminary (59.0 expected, 59.9 in July); Markit U.S. Composite PMI, August preliminary (59.9 in July); Existing home sales, month-on-month, July (-0.3% expected, 1.4% in June)\nTuesday: Richmond Fed Manufacturing Index, August (25 expected, 27 in July); New home sales, month-on-month, July (3.6% expected, -6.6% in June)\nWednesday: MBA Mortgage Applications, week ended August 20 (-3.9% during prior week); Durable goods orders, July preliminary (-0.2% expected, 0.9% in June); Non-defense capital goods orders excluding aircraft, July preliminary (0.5% expected, 0.7% in June); Non-defense capital goods shipments excluding aircraft, July preliminary (0.6% in June)\nThursday: Initial jobless claims, week ended August 21 (352,000 expected, 348,000 during prior week); Continuing claims, week ended August 14 (2.780 million expected, 2.820 million during prior week); GDP annualized quarter-over-quarter, Q2 second estimate (6.6% expected, 6.5% in prior print); Personal consumption, Q2 second estimate (12.3% expected, 11.8% in prior print); Core PCE quarter-over-quarter Q2 second estimate (6.1% expected, 6.1% in prior print); Kansas City Fed Manufacturing Activity Index, August (30 in prior print)\nFriday: Advanced goods trade balance, July (-$90.9 billion expected, -$91.2 billion in June); Wholesale inventories, month-over-month, July preliminary (1.0% expected, 1.1% in June); Personal income, July (0.2% expected, 0.1% in June); Personal spending, July (0.4% expected, 1.0% in June); PCE core deflator, month-on-month, July (0.3% expected, 0.4% in June); PCE core deflator, year-on-year, July (3.6% expected, 3.5% in June); University of Michigan Sentiment, August final (71.0 expected, 70.2 in prior print)\n\nEarnings calendar\n\nMonday: No notable reports scheduled for release\nTuesday: Advance Auto Parts (AAP) before market open; Intuit (INTU) after market close\nWednesday: Best Buy (BBY) before market open; Salesforce (CRM), Autodesk (ADSK), Ulta Beauty (ULTA) after market close\nThursday: The JM Smucker Co.
