This downturn occurred amid a relatively flat market, reflecting broader market uncertainties and investor caution. Key developments, such as the integration with Amazon Web Services and AI-powered updates across Adobe Firefly and Experience Platform, poised Adobe for future growth in customer engagement and marketing services. However, these announcements coincided with a tech sector facing volatility due to recent economic forecasts and reactions to Federal Reserve signals. Although Adobe's recent first-quarter earnings report showed a significant improvement with a 5,714 million revenue and a strong net income rise, the market's broader sentiment likely influenced an 11% price decrease. This highlights the complexities companies face when navigating market conditions, product innovations, and investor expectations concurrently.\nBuy, Hold or Sell Adobe? Several critical factors may have influenced this performance. Notably, Adobe consistently showcased robust financial results, including substantial earnings growth over recent years. For instance, the company's Q1 2025 earnings report revealed significant revenue and net income improvements compared to the previous year. This growth has been supported by strategic partnerships with tech giants such as AWS and NVIDIA, enhancing Adobe's AI capabilities and broadening its reach in high-demand sectors.\nAdditionally, Adobe's focus on innovation has been central to its longer-term success. The company has continuously upgraded powerful platforms like the Adobe Experience Cloud to enhance customer engagement. Furthermore, an active share repurchase program reduced outstanding shares by 4.6%, indicating confidence in the company's prospects and potentially bolstering share price performance amid market fluctuations. Now, SoFi will be able to complete its previously announced acquisition of Golden Pacific Bancorp and become a bank holding company.

SoFi plans to capitalize the bank with $750 million, and the bank will have $5.3 billion of assets once the deal with Golden Pacific closes, which is expected to happen in February. Following the news of the bank charter, SoFi's stock shot up.

Here's why SoFi's long-awaited bank charter will improve the company's operations.

Streamlining operations

Despite competing in the banking space, many fintech companies start as tech companies and do not have a formal banking license -- they are not easy to obtain. So, most fintechs tend to partner with licensed banks to do things like hold the deposits they gather from their members (unlicensed banks can't hold deposits on their balance sheet) and originate loans for them in some cases. This typically involves some kind of revenue share. Additionally, because banks can't use deposits to fund loan originations, they have to use higher-cost funding.

One of the main benefits of the bank charter will be enabling SoFi to lower its interest expense, which is the interest SoFi pays on the debt it uses to fund assets such as loans. According to its recent regulatory filing, the company's current funding sources for originations include securitization debt and funding from warehouse facilities. SoFi pays interest on this funding of nearly 4% and 1.6%, respectively. This funding is also not as reliable in certain market conditions. Currently, most savings and checking accounts pay out very little interest, and even a lot of high-yield savings accounts pay much less interest than these higher-cost sources.

With the bank charter, SoFi will be able to transfer all of the deposits in its cash management SoFi Money product that it currently sends to a partner bank back into SoFi to hold. SoFi Money accounts topped 1.16 million at the end of the third quarter, so they should offer a decent source of funding that will also grow in the future. This will significantly lower SoFi's cost of funding loan originations, or it can maintain both sources if it needs them to grow.

Additionally, having a bank charter will make it easier for SoFi to hold loans on its balance sheet, whether that means holding loans for longer periods or to completion. Most fintech consumer lenders sell loans they originate right away to an investor or bank for a fee. But when you hold a loan on the balance sheet, you can collect interest payments every month, and that loan ends up being more profitable over its life, as long as it doesn't go into default.

With a bank charter, SoFi will have more clarity from a regulatory perspective on its operations. It is also another signal to investors that SoFi is a trustworthy lender. While the company has a good reputation, given that it has been originating loans for several years now, I think investors see it as a good sign that a fintech company is willing to take some risk on its balance sheet, although I am not yet sure how long SoFi plans to hold its loans.

In its first presentation, management showed the impact of the bank charter on earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA). It is also no easy feat for any fintech to obtain a bank charter. The charter will make the deposits that SoFi gathers much more valuable and greatly help the unit economics in its lending division. Ultimately, expect revenue and EBITDA to be higher this year and going forward with the bank charter now secured.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Here's Why SoFi's Long-Awaited Bank Charter Will Make the Business Better
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nHere's Why SoFi's Long-Awaited Bank Charter Will Make the Business Better\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-01-23 08:39 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
After a difficult few months for the stock, SoFi (NASDAQ:SOFI) shareholders got some welcome news recently when regulators approved the company's application to become a bank. Ultimately, expect revenue and EBITDA to be higher this year and going forward with the bank charter now secured.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":546,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3581980965309451","authorId":"3581980965309451","name":"Eded","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41a629a3014601072ee8dc2d151d1796","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3581980965309451","authorIdStr":"3581980965309451"},"content":"Look at grab which has digital banking licence as well","text":"Look at grab which has digital banking licence as well","html":"Look at grab which has digital banking licence as well"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9091170385,"gmtCreate":1643814056302,"gmtModify":1676533859242,"author":{"id":"3582676758474626","authorId":"3582676758474626","name":"Netfalcon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fd17459172be5f069843f61a0eaccd06","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582676758474626","authorIdStr":"3582676758474626"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buy both - I have!","listText":"Buy both - I have!","text":"Buy both - I have!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9091170385","repostId":"2208368356","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2208368356","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1643804700,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2208368356?lang=&edition=full_marsco","pubTime":"2022-02-02 20:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Better Buy for 2022: Nu Holdings vs. Grab Holdings?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2208368356","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These two international emerging companies look appealing, but which company would be a better buy today?","content":"

When it comes to diversifying your portfolio, you have several viable options, including geographic diversification. The company's core services -- delivery and ride-hailing -- had over $2.8 billion in gross merchandise volume spent on its platform in the third quarter of 2021. Add all three of its services together and the company has 22 million monthly transacting users, leaving Grab plenty of room for growth in a Southeast Asian population of 679 million.

Grab's opportunity is extremely large, but the company has not yet proved it can take full advantage. In the most recent quarter, The company's revenue decreased 9% year over year to $157 million. Management cited short-term pandemic lockdowns in certain countries as the reason revenue fell, but some of its biggest markets -- like Singapore -- are largely open for business due to the high vaccination rates. And despite being a $21 billion company, Grab's margin profile is not good. In the first six months of 2021, the company had a gross margin of negative 28% and posted a net loss of over $1.4 billion, a figure that represents 370% of revenue.

To capitalize on the massive market opportunity and become the dominant super-app in Southeast Asia, Grab is going to need a quick turnaround. It already faces competition in the financial services business from Sea Limited and on the delivery and ride-hailing side is GoTo (a merger of two Southeast Asian behemoths Tokopedia and Gojek). If Grab disrupted both of these companies, it would be an amazing feat, but much harder to accomplish with negative gross margins and low growth.

Nu Holdings

Nu Holdings is disrupting the digital financial services industry across Latin America. The banking system in Latin America is dominated by five banks that control up to 85% of all banking revenue in Chile, Brazil, and Mexico. This dominance has resulted in almost no innovation in terms of technology, simplicity, or customer satisfaction in decades. Nu is trying to change this.

The company digitally offers users credit cards services, savings and checking accounts, loan options, investment accounts, and even insurance. These offerings appear to be popular as the three-year compound annual growth rate for customers has been 110% annually, reaching 48 million customers.

What is more important is Nu's ability to satisfy customers. The lack of innovation in the space has caused the established banks to get lots of complaints, according to Nu management. It reported that the biggest banks in the region, on average, receive 1,420 complaints per 1 million customers. Nu's customer-centric approach has resulted in less than 270 per 1 million customers.

The company has a total addressable market of over 650 million people. The digital bank is going after that market and has already started to see success. In Q3 2021, it grew its revenue 208% year over year to $481 million. Its net loss for the period was just $34 million, which grew just 5% year over year, so the company's path to profitability looks very strong.

Nu: The clear winner

Nu looks stronger than Grab in virtually every part of its business, which makes its stock a much better buy today. Nu and Grab have similar market sizes, yet Nu has robust competitive advantages, a better financial position, and much more impressive growth. Nu stock does trade at 42 times sales compared to Grab's 29 times sales, but Nu's quality of operations makes that premium valuation worth paying up for.

There are competitors to Nu in the digital financial services space -- mainly MercadoLibre -- but with such a large opportunity, both Nu and MercadoLibre could win. Despite being down 30% since the start of the year, Tesla stock rebounded Monday as Musk demonstrated he is “back in charge,” Ives said.Tesla CEO Elon Musk is jumping back into action at Tesla and investors are taking notice. Tesla’s stock is down more than 30% year to date, but its fortune reversed this week as Musk refocused his attention on the lagging EV maker. The company’s stock shot up 12% on Monday and closed at $278.39, marking its best day since the November presidential election. On Tuesday, Tesla stock was trading up 3.5% at $288.14.The stock surge comes after Musk held a rare all-hands meeting with Tesla employees last week, in which he told employees not to sell their shares and promised that everything would work out.“What I’m here to tell you is that the future is incredibly bright and exciting,” Musk said, “and we’re going to do things that no one I think has even dreamed of.”With Musk squarely back at the helm, Wedbush analyst and Tesla bull Dan Ives said investors are changing their tone on Tesla.“Musk stepped up last week with the all-hands meeting, and that sent a much needed positive signal to employees and investors,” Ives told Fortune. “The stock was way oversold and is bouncing as Musk is back in charge and trying to balance DOGE and Tesla.”Following the all-hands meeting, which was live streamed, Wedbush analysts led by Ives praised the move, and said they expect Musk to take a “small step back from DOGE” over the coming months to focus on Tesla. As a leader of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk has orchestrated thousands of layoffs and millions of dollars in cuts to try to streamline the federal budget. The White House claimed in February, however, Musk wasn’t in charge of the cost-cutting agency, nor was an employee of it. Still, Musk acknowledged in an interview earlier this month he was balancing his business and government obligations “with great difficulty.” Last week, Ives called on Musk to rededicate himself to Tesla, and longtime Tesla investor Ross Gerber called for Musk to step up or allow the company to find a “suitable CEO” to run the company.Apart from its lagging stock, Tesla has faced increased pressure from China’s BYD, which overtook Tesla Monday with annual sales of $107 billion, compared to Tesla’s $97.7 billion in annual revenue. Moreover, Musk’s recent political involvement has led to an uptick in peaceful protests as well as vandalism targeting Tesla vehicles and showrooms. President Donald Trump has called people vandalizing Tesla property “terrorists,” and on Monday the FBI created a task force to investigate recent Tesla vandalism.Ives previously cautioned against the brand damage which has been caused by Musk’s political moves, but he said support for the CEO seems to be building despite the disapproval.“There is still a brand crisis tornado in motion, but we are seeing many flood Tesla dealerships rallying behind Musk with these protests building,” Ives told Fortune.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":286,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9096526064,"gmtCreate":1644423624065,"gmtModify":1676533924704,"author":{"id":"3582676758474626","authorId":"3582676758474626","name":"Netfalcon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fd17459172be5f069843f61a0eaccd06","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582676758474626","authorIdStr":"3582676758474626"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I like the Olympics theme :)","listText":"I like the Olympics theme :)","text":"I like the Olympics theme :)","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9096526064","repostId":"9004448317","repostType":1,"repost":{"id":9004448317,"gmtCreate":1642676525258,"gmtModify":1676533734534,"author":{"id":"3527667667103859","authorId":"3527667667103859","name":"TigerEvents","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/c266ef25181ace18bec1262357bbe1a8","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3527667667103859","authorIdStr":"3527667667103859"},"themes":[],"title":"Join Tiger Ski Championship, Win a Bonus of Up to USD 2022","htmlText":"2022 is the Year of Tiger in Chinese lunar calendar, it’s also a special year for Tiger Brokers. I wrote about t","content":"

SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ:SOFI), the financial technology company, is still falling. I wrote about this last month when it was at $14.85. But since then, SOFI stock has tumbled again, and by mid-day Jan. 27, 2022, it was down to $11.56 per share.

That represents another 22% drop, and in fact, since the end of the year SOFI stock is actually down $4.25 from $15.81 as of Dec. 31. This means it was down 26.9% year-to-date (YTD) when it hit that price. This drop really seems unsustainable, especially since its underlying value is significantly higher.

So what is going on here? Let’s look into SoFi Technologies’ situation more closely.

Where Things Stand With SoFi

I wrote last month that SOFI stock is worth at least $19 per share based on analysts’ base target prices. Moreover, SoFi reported stellar earnings on Nov. 10, with the release of its third-quarter financial results.

In addition, SoFi now has 2.9 million members, up 96% year-over-year. This gives it a huge base to whom it can sell high numbers of financial products.

SoFi provided guidance of $272 million to $282 million for Q4. This is significantly higher than last year but represents only slightly higher than its Q3 revenue of $277.19 million on a non-GAAP basis.

That could be one reason why the stock has been so weak lately. Analysts and investors typically want to see good quarterly consecutive top-line growth. This implies that going forward its year-over-year growth will not decelerate, which is what seems to be happening here.

Where Analysts Stand on SoFi Stock

Nevertheless, analysts’ projections for the stock still seem quite ebullient. For example, Seeking Alpha now shows that the average of 12 analysts is now $20.23. This is higher than the $19 per share price target last month.

So, here we have a situation where analysts are turning more positive on the stock but it keeps falling. I don’t see that continuing for much longer.

In fact, TipRanks.com reports that 10 analysts who have written on the stock in the last 3 months have an average target price of $20.30. This represents an upside of over 75.3% over today’s price.

One of the problems with SoFi’s financials is that so far it is not EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization) profitable and cash flow positive. That could also be a reason why the stock has been so weak lately.

In fact, some investors might want to wait for the company to get to this point before investing in SOFI stock. On the other hand, analysts now project the company to make $1.46 billion in revenue in 2022. This implies a 46% potential upside from estimates of 2021 revenue by analysts.

Since SoFi has a $10.3 billion market cap now, this implies that the price-to-sales (P/S) multiple for 2022 is just 7.1 times. That does not seem very expensive. For example, Morningstar.com reports that the average P/S multiple during 2021 was 14.6 times.

What to Do With SoFi Stock

Recently, analysts have been taking note of the stock’s weakness and its higher underlying value. On Jan. 21, Wedbush initiated coverage on SOFI stock with an “outperform” rating and a $20 price target.

The analyst’s thesis was based on a five-year revenue compound annual growth rate of 28% through 2026. In addition, the analyst pointed out that the company’s clients will have an average FICO score of 750, which will allow it to have high profits and low write-off expenses.

In addition, SoFi recently received a bank charter, which also allows it to have lower funding expenses. It also gives them a competitive advantage over some of their peers.

As a result, investors might want to piggyback on this analyst’s recommendation and average down into the stock. Let’s look into SoFi Technologies’ situation more closely.Where Things Stand With SoFiI wrote last month that SOFI stock is worth at least $19 per share based on analysts’ base target prices. Moreover, SoFi reported stellar earnings on Nov. 10, with the release of its third-quarter financial results. In addition, SoFi now has 2.9 million members, up 96% year-over-year. This gives it a huge base to whom it can sell high numbers of financial products.SoFi provided guidance of $272 million to $282 million for Q4. This is significantly higher than last year but represents only slightly higher than its Q3 revenue of $277.19 million on a non-GAAP basis. That could be one reason why the stock has been so weak lately. Analysts and investors typically want to see good quarterly consecutive top-line growth. This implies that going forward its year-over-year growth will not decelerate, which is what seems to be happening here.Where Analysts Stand on SoFi StockNevertheless, analysts’ projections for the stock still seem quite ebullient. This implies a 46% potential upside from estimates of 2021 revenue by analysts.Since SoFi has a $10.3 billion market cap now, this implies that the price-to-sales (P/S) multiple for 2022 is just 7.1 times. That does not seem very expensive. For example, Morningstar.com reports that the average P/S multiple during 2021 was 14.6 times. What to Do With SoFi StockRecently, analysts have been taking note of the stock’s weakness and its higher underlying value. This will allow them to significantly lower their average costs, which is good for long-term profits for the long-term investor.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":729,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9090447434,"gmtCreate":1643252434780,"gmtModify":1676533790985,"author":{"id":"3582676758474626","authorId":"3582676758474626","name":"Netfalcon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fd17459172be5f069843f61a0eaccd06","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582676758474626","authorIdStr":"3582676758474626"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Continue to beat like that for 10 years straight, no stock px increase, still overvalued. Discover why before your portfolio feels the trade war pinch.\nAdobe's shares have provided a respectable total return of 26.25% over the past five years. Despite some recent challenges, these strategic endeavors have underpinned Adobe's long-term viability and performance.\nTake a closer look at Adobe's potential here in our financial health report.\n This article by Simply Wall St is general in nature.
