Inc. is targeting a date on or near March 8 to unveil a new low-cost iPhone and an updated iPad, according to people with knowledge of the matter, kicking off a potentially record-setting year for product launches. The announcement will mark Apple’s first major event since a new MacBook Pro debuted in October. Like the company’s other recent launches, it’s expected to be an online presentation rather than in-person, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the deliberations are private.Apple is coming off a holiday quarter that far exceeded Wall Street predictions, helping quell fears that supply-chain problems would hurt sales. Now the company is setting its sights higher for 2022. The March announcements -- along with the usual flood of product news expected later in 2022 -- suggest Apple will introduce its biggest crop of new devices ever in a single year.Given that the planned timing is still more than a month away, the company’s plans may change in the face of production delays or other changes, the people said. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on the company’s plans. The new phone will be the first update to the iPhone SE model in two years, adding 5G network capabilities, an improved camera and a faster processor. But the design itself is expected to be similar to the current version, which debuted in April 2020.The new iPad, meanwhile, will be an update to the Air model that features a faster processor and 5G. The company is also planning a new Mac with Apple-designed chips, which could also come as early as March. In addition to announcing new devices, the company is planning to release iOS 15.4 in the first half of March, the people said. The software update will add Face ID support for people wearing masks to iPhones and iPads, making it easier for users to unlock their devices. It also has new emojis and Universal Control, which lets customers use a single keyboard and trackpad across multiple iPads and Macs.Following the March event, the company will likely hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June to announce software updates for the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. It’s then expected to hold multiple keynote events in the fall to launch the iPhone 14 and new Macs. The 2022 lineup is likely to include new iMac and Mac Pro desktops, a redesigned MacBook Air, an updated low-end MacBook Pro, three Apple Watches, four iPhone 14 models and new AirPods. But so far this year, things haven't been as friendly to investors, as the market has dropped 25% (as of Jan. 27) in less than a month. This makes the 9% drop for the S&P 500 in 2022 look like a walk in the park. Cryptocurrencies, and their underlying technology, the blockchain, certainly have the potential to change the world. But the industry is still so young and so unproven, not to mention the fact that digital assets are extremely volatile. These characteristics aren't for the faint of heart. Nonetheless, I think it's best to zoom out and focus on the bigger picture. Don't let the cryptocurrency market crash scare you away from this burgeoning asset class. Here are three reasons to keep investing in it. Image source: Getty Images.1. Cryptocurrencies have crashed before The drawdown we're currently seeing is not without precedent. From the start of 2021 through mid-May, the cryptocurrency market's value went from $773 billion to $2.5 trillion, only to fall more than 50% in the following two months. An even-more-dramatic performance happened a few years prior. After soaring 350% from November 2017 to early January 2018, the crypto market dropped 66% in the month after. Even the two most valuable and long-standing cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and Ethereum, are known to experience wild price swings of their own. The fear is that a so-called \"crypto winter\" is imminent. This term refers to a rapid slump, not unlike the one we're in right now, followed by an extended period of low trading volumes where the market flies under the radar. It's anyone's guess if this is actually going to happen, but what's encouraging is that the industry has always bounced back. The trend is strikingly clear if we zoom out. Over the past five years, cryptocurrencies as a whole have returned roughly 9,500%. 2. Talent is flocking to the crypto industry Whether we're about to be in a \"crypto winter\" or not doesn't matter because developers, the ones who are working behind the scenes to create useful applications on the numerous blockchain protocols out there, are growing in number. According to Electric Capital, a venture investment fund, there were more than 18,000 monthly active developers working on crypto projects as of December 2021, a 75% jump from just 11 months earlier. The people actually working on some of the most promising blockchain projects, like Cardano and Solana, don't really care what crypto prices do in any given month or year. All they're worried about is building the next great technology. The industry is attracting major talent from traditional finance and tech companies as well. Executives and engineers from Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta Platforms are taking jobs at crypto start-ups. And the head of global markets at Galaxy Digital Holdings, a crypto-focused investment firm, previously spent 20 years at Goldman Sachs. This trend creates a positive outlook for cryptocurrencies. 3. The U.S. does not intend to ban cryptocurrencies One of the biggest bear arguments for cryptocurrencies in general is that governments will ban them entirely. China provides a cautionary tale. The world's second largest economy, with 1.4 billion people, banned cryptocurrency use and mining in the country last year. Always present is the risk that the U.S. could take a similar measure, but I don't believe this will happen. Gary Gensler, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, said last October that the U.S. won't follow in China's footsteps and ban cryptocurrencies. This message echoes what the Federal Reserve chairman, Jerome Powell, said just a few days earlier about the country not having any plans to eliminate cryptocurrencies. Obviously, regulation will be a huge topic, as with any unproven, quickly evolving, and innovative technology. But to see these two powerful figures come out and make these comments is an extremely encouraging sign. Weather the storm It is definitely unsettling to see the market for digital assets crash so much to start the year. But if you're a believer in the potential for cryptocurrencies to become a more important part of our daily lives, now is definitely not the time to abandon that viewpoint. Market drawdowns aren't anything new, and the industry has always recovered. Plus, there are so many smart and talented people who are gravitating toward the space to develop the technology and bring it to the mainstream. And probably most importantly, the U.S. has no intention of banning cryptocurrencies. Therefore, it's a good idea to keep investing.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GOOG":0.61}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":567,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9091358666,"gmtCreate":1643784561430,"gmtModify":1676533856120,"author":{"id":"4106437268723080","authorId":"4106437268723080","name":"Tigershark","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/a5cba24d62a3defae5f22f167bbe3318","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4106437268723080","idStr":"4106437268723080"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9091358666","repostId":"2208330264","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2208330264","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1643761417,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2208330264?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-02 08:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Crypto Crash: 1 Top Cryptocurrency to Buy in a Heartbeat","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2208330264","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The promise of real-world use cases makes this an easy investing decision.","content":"
\n
Since the start of the new year, the cryptocurrency market has lost a jaw-dropping 25% (as of Jan. 27) in 27 days. The Federal Reserve's intention to start raising interest rates in March is encouraging investors to adopt a risk-off approach. This negatively impacts high-growth stocks, but it also adversely affects digital assets. The cryptocurrency market is clearly taking a dive. Consequently, this just might be one of the best times to buy Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH), the world's second-most valuable cryptocurrency. Here's why. Image source: Getty Images. What is Ethereum? As the top programmable blockchain, Ethereum's network allows developers to build smart contracts on top of it. These are computer programs that self-execute if and when certain conditions are met. Ethereum's founders set out to create a decentralized, global computing platform functionality that opens up the potential for real-world use cases, as I'll discuss later. This structure is completely different than Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), which is meant to be a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. One of the biggest knocks on Ethereum and Bitcoin relates to their proof-of-work consensus mechanisms. This validation method requires massive amounts of computing power to solve mathematical puzzles in order to verify transactions. It's extremely energy-intensive and slow. But Ethereum is gearing up for a major makeover to solve these problems. Scaling Ethereum A more environmentally friendly and faster consensus system is on the way. Previously dubbed ETH2, but now simply called the consensus layer, the plan is for Ethereum to transition to a proof-of-stake mechanism, where owners of Ether (ETH), the native token, can stake their holdings in order to earn the right to validate new blocks. Proponents view it as a necessary update to make Ethereum more scalable and sustainable. Another critical part of the upgrade is the planned introduction of shard chains, set to be completed in 2023. Sharding will improve Ethereum's capacity significantly by adding 64 new side chains to the entire network. Ethereum can only process something like 15 transactions per second (TPS) today, not even remotely enough to handle surging demand. For comparison's sake, Visa and Mastercard can process tens of thousands of TPS. Because of this limited scalability, whenever network congestion is high, the cost to process transactions, known as gas fees, can skyrocket. The average gas fee right now is $145. If Ethereum ever wants to achieve widespread adoption, this obviously won't cut it. That's why the implementation of the consensus layer, and a switch to proof-of-stake, will be closely watched this year. It could be a major catalyst for Ethereum's price. Proving that real-world use cases exist Scaling Ethereum is extremely vital to its long-term viability, particularly at a time when decentralized applications (dApps), including decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), are gaining in popularity. There are nearly 3,000 dApps, from gaming and social media to security and identity functions, running on Ethereum today. Some interesting projects built on top of Ethereum are DeFi services like Aave and Compound. These apps let users deposit their cryptocurrency balances and borrow against them, often at more favorable interest rates than what traditional banks can offer. And when it comes to NFTs, OpenSea is by far the largest platform, having just raised $300 million in funding and now valued at $13.3 billion. Ethereum's programmability can pave the way for a wide range of use cases that can upend numerous industries. And because dApps built on Ethereum's blockchain require ETH to run, the growth of these innovative projects supports demand, and a rising value, for Ethereum over time. Being able to stomach the volatility While Ethereum definitely shows promise to bring real utility from the cryptocurrency world to the mainstream, its price will continue to be volatile. Investors should brace for this inevitability. Price drawdowns in excess of 50% can and will happen, so you have to ask yourself if this is right for you. Although Ethereum has plunged 49% since Nov. 10, it's still up an incredible 23,000% over the past five years. The recent dip can be a perfect entry point for long-term investors.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TPS":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":645,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9093787694,"gmtCreate":1643710670776,"gmtModify":1676533847155,"author":{"id":"4106437268723080","authorId":"4106437268723080","name":"Tigershark","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/a5cba24d62a3defae5f22f167bbe3318","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4106437268723080","idStr":"4106437268723080"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9093787694","repostId":"2208733463","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2208733463","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga Earnings","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1643705841,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2208733463?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-01 16:57","market":"us","language":"en","title":"7 Stocks To Watch For February 1, 2022","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2208733463","media":"Benzinga Earnings","summary":"Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:\n\tWall Street expects United Parcel Service, Inc. Meanwhile, the latest consensus estimate is calling for revenue of $59.3 billion, up 27.71% from the prior-year quarter. Here's what to watch in Alphabet's upcoming report.Search, Ad & Cloud Momentum to Aid GrowthAlphabet’s expanding ad services portfolio, robust search engine and improving search results are likely to have benefited the fourth-quarter performance. The company’s continued efforts toward innovation of its search segment, which accounts for the major portion of the total revenues, is expected to have continued driving traffic on its platform in the to-be-reported quarter. The growing momentum across its mobile search is anticipated to have been another positive. The introduction of AI-backed Multitask Unified Models technology is likely to have continued enhancing the search results to the unique queries of users.Continued efforts to bolster the news ecosystem for the company’s Search and Discovery feed, and offering access to quality journalism are expected to have been positives.Technical advancements in Google Assistant and Google Maps are expected to have driven the momentum across search further, which, in turn, is expected to have contributed well to the fourth-quarter performance of Google Services. In addition to this, Google has been gaining traction with the Local Services ads. This is expected to get reflected in its fourth-quarter advertisement revenues. Moreover, solid momentum across retail, media & entertainment, finance, and travel categories is likely to have aided growth in its advertising business.Coming to cloud prospects, Google has been significantly gaining momentum in the highly competitive cloud market on the back of its expanding cloud services portfolio and an increasing number of data centers. The impacts of this are expected to have driven the company’s cloud revenues in the quarter under review. The solid adoption of Google Workspace is likely to have contributed well to the performance of the Google Cloud segment.Android, Meet, Waymo & Google TV Efforts to ConsiderGoogle’s strength across Android, digital payment, autonomous driving and healthcare is anticipated to have aided its fourth-quarter performance. The growing momentum across Android 12 is likely to have benefited the company’s performance in the to-be-reported quarter. New widgets designed for personalizing phones, new dashboards and indicators for privacy management, and more gesture features, which aid in communication and controlling phones, are expected to have continued bolstering the adoption rate of Android 12.In addition to this, Google’s persistent efforts to infuse its video conferencing software, Google Meet, with advanced features are likely to have bolstered its user base in the quarter to be reported. The company made advancements in Google Meet, with the help of which the software will notify users when there will be echo on video calls.Further, growing prospects around Alphabet’s self-driving unit, Waymo, are expected to have been a major tailwind. In the fourth quarter, Waymo expanded its partnership with UPS to initiate autonomous freight movement with Waymo Via Class 8 trucks, which are powered by the fifth-generation Waymo Driver. The impacts of the strengthening momentum across the company’s Early Rider program, which is currently available in San Francisco, CA, and Phoenix, AZ, are expected to get reflected in the upcoming results of the company.Apart from this, the company’s strong Google TV efforts are expected to have driven its momentum in the streaming market in the quarter under review. Google introduced its first Chromecast streaming dongle for Google TV. Further, Mecool has launched its first Google TV streaming stick named Mecool KD3, which supports the over-the-top streaming service of Netflix. Also, Realme introduced Realme 4K Smart Google TV streaming stick in India, which, in turn, is expected to have expanded the reach of Google TV in the country.YouTubeYouTube has become the second most popular social media platform globally, and the platform's global user base amounted to approximately 2,240 million in 2021, projected to reach over 2,854 million users by 2025 with a CAGR of 5%.According to the research firm, YouTube’s third-quarter advertising revenue was US$7.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 43%. Moreover, Netflix’s Q3 revenue was US$7.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16%.As YouTube continues to grow, Mirabaud Equity Research analyst Camplin said that it will “soon surpass Netflix and become the new king of streaming media.” He added in a report to investors that if YouTube were an independent company, its value would be between US$600 billion and US$700 billion. As a reference, the current market value of Netflix is $160 billion.Alphabet also benefits from tailwinds leading to a robust prospective future with excellent financial performance and solid fundamentals. In addition, the pandemic brought digital transformation, which is expected to be further solidified with economic rebound resulting in a higher consumer spending on online retail, consequently, an increase in Digital advertisement.MetaverseGoogle entered the AR space ahead of time with its Google Glass initiative in 2013 but shortly ceased to flourish amid public outrage pertaining to its built-in data collection capabilities. However, the product is still in circulation as the company released an Enterprise Edition in 2019. Since then, the digital world has come a long way, and video recorders are now virtually embedded in all aspects of our lives through our smartphones. With Google Glass, Alphabet has been a pioneer of AR hardware, and a relaunch of the Google Glass will tell an entirely different story. After Google's demo of Project Starline, a hyper-realistic 3D video booth, in 2021, Alphabet is now stepping into the Metaverse through its AR venture, Project Iris. The project is reportedly aiming at a 2024 launch date. In addition, the company acquired North, a pioneer in human-computer interfaces and smart glasses, in 2020 to focus on \"ambient computing.\" In the recent earnings call, the CEO Sundar Pichai said:For a while, we have deeply focused on thinking through computing for the long term. We've talked about ambient computing, and it's just a matter of time before, you know, beyond phones, you'll see other successful form factors. And AR is an exciting part of that future. In a recent interview, the CEO also highlighted:It’s always been obvious to me that computing over time will adapt to people than people adapting to computers. You won’t always interact with computing in a black rectangle in front of you. So, just like you speak to people, you see and interact, computers will become more immersive. They’ll be there when you need them to be. So, I have always been excited about the future of immersive computing, ambient computing, AR… The way I think about it is evolving computing in an immersive way with augmented reality.Further, the company is developing a dedicated Operating System (OS) for its AR project under the former General Manager for OS in Meta Platforms, Mark Lucovsky. In a little over three years, we've seen three major sell-offs that all transpired in a matter of weeks. They are the U.S.-China trade war sell-off in late 2018, the COVID-19 pandemic induced sell-off in March 2020, and now the current sell-off.Despite reporting record earnings after market close on Wednesday, Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) and other electric car companies like Lucid Group (NASDAQ:LCID) and Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:RIVN) saw their stock prices tumble on Thursday and Friday. Here's how Tesla's results and management's commentary affect Lucid and Rivian.Image source: Tesla.Lucid isn't immune from a potentially challenging year for the auto industryDaniel Foelber (Lucid): If you're new to investing, it can seem confusing when an industry-leading company like Tesla reports incredibly impressive results, but its stock price gets crushed anyway. Some of that has to do with expectations leading into the report. But most of the time, it has to do with management's guidance for the quarters to come. There's no denying that Tesla's business is in its best shape of all time. It delivered 87% more vehicles in 2021 than in 2020, grew year-over-year full-year revenue by 71%, earned $5.52 billion in net income, and generated over $5 billion in free cash flow despite incurring more than double the capital expenditures in 2021 compared to 2020 due to factory build-outs in Texas and Germany. It also finished 2021 with a full-year operating margin of 12.1% and a record-high quarterly operating margin of 14.7%. Tesla's industry-leading operating margin continues to be one of the company's biggest competitive advantages. It is the result of strong demand for its vehicles, virtually nonexistent advertising costs, and production efficiency. However, there were some major red flags in the earnings report and conference call. The operating margin could have been a few percentage points higher if it weren't for massive stock-based compensation for CEO Elon Musk, higher logistical costs due to supply chain issues, and higher costs for parts and services due to inflation. Tesla, which had been navigating the global chip shortage arguably better than other automakers, signaled that it now expects the issue to persist throughout 2022. \"In 2022, [the] supply chain will continue to be the fundamental limiter of output across all factories,\" said Musk during the company's Q4 2021 earnings call on Wednesday.Tesla's results and management's commentary indicate that other companies like Lucid could have a difficult time getting their production off the ground in 2022. As of Q3 2021, Lucid reported over 17,000 reservations across the four trims of its Air luxury electric sedan line, so the demand is clearly there for it to reach its goal to produce and deliver 20,000 vehicles this year. However, Lucid only began delivering its most expensive version of the Air, the Air Dream Edition, in late October and has yet to announce meaningful deliveries of the second most expensive option, the Grand Touring. Tesla's cost concerns could indicate that Lucid will face challenges and higher than expected input costs as it attempts to produce low volumes of four different versions of the Air.Another point of concern is shipping and logistics costs. Lacking a sophisticated distribution system, Lucid could face bottlenecks on the customer delivery side of its business as it attempts to ship vehicles across the country. In sum, supply chain challenges and an ongoing chip shortage are serious threats that could impede Lucid from hitting its 2022 goals. Or even if it does, it could deplete its cash position much quicker than expected.Rivian's situation isn't like Tesla's, but there's some overlapJohn Rosevear (Rivian): This might be oversimplified, but I see two big takeaways from Tesla's fourth-quarter earnings report.Tesla's getting good prices for its vehicles right now, and that drove nice operating margins last quarter.Tesla is facing some big challenges in the near term, including rising competition, supply chain woes, and a new-product drought. The first bullet point won't be a factor for Rivian for a while. It'll be at least a couple of years before the company has the scale to generate positive operating margins, much less Tesla-sized ones. But that said, Rivian is facing its own challenges in the near term, and some of them do overlap with Tesla's.Like Tesla (and just about every other automaker), Rivian has been struggling with supplier issues amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and a related global shortage of automotive-grade semiconductors. Those supply chain woes caused Rivian to miss its own modest 2021 production guidance: Rivian had told investors that it expected to build about 1,200 vehicles in 2021, but it was able to complete just 1,015 before year-end. (I think that miss is no big deal in context, but Rivian's communications around it could have been better. Let's hope that's a lesson learned.) What about competition? Tesla's stock is priced for absolute global domination; any signs that the \"legacy\" automakers can build competitive electric vehicles at scale are arguably bearish. Rivian, to its immense credit, doesn't have that problem — first, because nobody is expecting Rivian to sell 20 million vehicles a year any time soon, and second, because it has staked out an interesting, profitable, and unique niche with its first two products. Rivian's R1T pickup and the related R1S SUV are aimed at an upscale, outdoorsy crowd -- a market niche that the company might have to itself for a while. Image source: Rivian Automotive.Simply put, Rivian is courting the kinds of customers who might also be drawn to upscale apparel maker Patagonia. Like Patagonia, Rivian's products are premium-priced, tailored for an outdoor lifestyle, and well-made. While other automakers offer products that occupy somewhat similar spaces in the market, nobody has aimed directly at that niche like Rivian — and certainly not with pure-electric vehicles. To be clear, that's not a moat. In time, if Rivian is successful, direct competition will arrive, just as it's arriving now for Tesla. But that will probably take at least a few years. That's time that Rivian can use to turn its promising start into a sustainable business — just like Tesla did with its original Model S and Model X. Two exciting companies that are worth followingLucid and Rivian remain high-risk, high-reward options in the EV space. Share prices of both companies are down over 60% from all-time highs. But to be clear, Lucid's $44 billion valuation and Rivian's $49 billion valuation are still extremely expensive for companies that are years away from positive operating income. However, the market is different today than it used to be. Lucid and Rivian both have tons of cash on their balance sheets. As long as the investment thesis remains intact, both companies should find it easier to raise more cash if needed -- a luxury Tesla wasn't afforded when it was building out its business a few years ago. That's because industry sentiment has shifted in favor of EV investment. Even the legacy automakers are seeing the potential in EVs -- and investing billions accordingly. For investors that have been waiting to pick up shares of Lucid and Rivian, now good be a good time to open a starter position, but only if you're OK with the stock falling much further and waiting years for the investment thesis to play out.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"RIVN":1,"TSLA":1,"LCID":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":243,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9093636899,"gmtCreate":1643604353804,"gmtModify":1676533835461,"author":{"id":"4106437268723080","authorId":"4106437268723080","name":"Tigershark","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/a5cba24d62a3defae5f22f167bbe3318","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4106437268723080","idStr":"4106437268723080"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9093636899","repostId":"1125536439","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1125536439","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1643586675,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1125536439?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-31 07:51","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Stocks Have Had Their Worst January Since 2008. Corporate profit growth fueled by the reopening has come up against contracting valuations and expectations of tighter monetary policy. While the battle has led to a chaotic period for stocks, the past few weeks have played out logically and according to script. Financial markets are entering their next chapter, and investors are finally rushing to adapt.

“If the Fed really wants to fight inflation, that means higher long-term interest rates and long-duration assets will not work,” says Richard Bernstein, CEO and chief investment officer of Richard Bernstein Advisors, a global macro investment manager with about $16 billion in assets. “The problem is that everyone came into the year long long-duration assets.”

Long-duration assets, including many growth stocks and long-term bonds, are particularly sensitive to changes in interest rates. As rates rise, the present value of future cash flows declines, lowering today’s prices.

The S&P 500 index is down 7% this year. (Friday’s late-day rally helped stocks avoid a fourth-straight week of declines.) Losses in the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite are even greater, while the small-cap Russell 2000 is in a bear market. For many investors, the selloff feels unfamiliar—there hasn’t been a 10% correction in the S&P 500 since March 2020, and the index had just one 5% pullback in all of 2021.

But 2022 could actually be closer to normal, with the recent low-volatility conditions more the exception. Since the S&P 500 was created in 1957, the index has averaged about one 10% decline and more than three 5% declines every year, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The good news is that selloffs create opportunities, and 2022’s is unlikely to be different.

Jack Ablin, CIO at Cresset Capital, calls January’s drop a “garden variety technical correction,” as opposed to a more pernicious cyclical downturn or systemic problem facing the market. Stocks aren’t falling because analysts are lowering profit forecasts en masse, or because economists are predicting a recession on the horizon. Instead, the correction has taken place because of how richly the market is valued.

“Valuations may have gotten out of whack, and now we’re experiencing a revaluation of the market because interest rates are going up,” says Ablin, whose firm manages about $22 billion. “It’s like ripping a Band-Aid off.”

Great Expectations

On Wednesday, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell made it clear that it’s not the central bank’s job to put a floor under the market—the so-called Fed put. He remarked that asset prices remain “somewhat elevated,” and noted that households had plenty of savings and could withstand further declines before the situation begins to be a meaningful problem for the U.S. economy.

The Fed is set to begin lifting its target interest-rate range from near zero as soon as March, with bond-market pricing suggesting a total of five quarter-point increases in 2022. Back in October, the market had priced in just one hike. That shift in expectations has been felt in Treasuries, where yields have risen, and in high-multiple stocks and other particularly pricey assets.

Buzzy technology stocks trading for eye-watering multiples of future expected revenues, unprofitable initial public offerings, special purpose acquisition company mergers, meme stocks, and cryptocurrencies are among the biggest losers this year. Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury note’s yield has risen by 0.28 of a percentage point in 2022, to 1.78%, as its price has declined.

Credit markets and many overseas stock indexes have held up much better than the S&P 500 and Nasdaq, and the price of gold is down, confirming that the recent scare isn’t about a general flight to safety.

“Fundamentals, generally speaking, remain quite stable and in good shape,” says Dubravko Lakos-Bujas, J.P. Morgan’s chief U.S. equity strategist. “It’s really a question of multiples.”

Powering Through

In fact, the early 2022 selloff has fallen neatly along valuation lines. Through Wednesday, S&P 500 stocks with low price/earnings ratios had outperformed those with high multiples by 11.5 percentage points since the start of 2022, according to Patrick Palfrey, co-head of quantitative research at Credit Suisse.

The same dynamic is true across sectors. That pattern should hold up as interest rates and bond yields continue to rise this year. Other defensive stock characteristics—think low leverage or high returns on equity—have been less of a factor.

“The valuation gap between the expensive and cheaper stocks is still very high, relative to history,” Palfrey says. “There’s a fair amount of opportunity for cheap companies to continue outperforming from here.”

One way in which 2022 might differ is that traditionally cheap sectors are getting even cheaper because of postpandemic, reopening patterns. That’s as pricier growth stocks face tough comparisons to a strong 2021.

Energy stocks are expected to grow earnings per share by 45% this year, with industrials up by 39%. Technology, meanwhile, is seen increasing EPS by just 9%.

It’s another sign that the economy isn’t the problem.

Volatility Spike

“A hawkish Fed and interest-rate increases don’t necessarily equate to the end of the bull market, as long as economic growth remains strong,” says Nuveen CIO Saira Malik.

Malik, who also manages the $139 billion College Retirement Equities fund, favors companies that can control their own fate in an inflationary environment and growing economy. Energy stocks are one option. They offer commodity exposure that should insulate them against inflation while benefiting from a global economic reopening. Malik points to Pioneer Natural Resources (ticker: PXD) and Valero Energy (VLO), in particular.

Malik also likes some established front-office software companies whose stocks have been punished. Corporate profit growth fueled by the reopening has come up against contracting valuations and expectations of tighter monetary policy. While the battle has led to a chaotic period for stocks, the past few weeks have played out logically and according to script. Financial markets are entering their next chapter, and investors are finally rushing to adapt.“If the Fed really wants to fight inflation, that means higher long-term interest rates and long-duration assets will not work,” says Richard Bernstein, CEO and chief investment officer of Richard Bernstein Advisors, a global macro investment manager with about $16 billion in assets. “The problem is that everyone came into the year long long-duration assets.”Long-duration assets, including many growth stocks and long-term bonds, are particularly sensitive to changes in interest rates. For many investors, the selloff feels unfamiliar—there hasn’t been a 10% correction in the S&P 500 since March 2020, and the index had just one 5% pullback in all of 2021.But 2022 could actually be closer to normal, with the recent low-volatility conditions more the exception. Since the S&P 500 was created in 1957, the index has averaged about one 10% decline and more than three 5% declines every year, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The good news is that selloffs create opportunities, and 2022’s is unlikely to be different.Jack Ablin, CIO at Cresset Capital, calls January’s drop a “garden variety technical correction,” as opposed to a more pernicious cyclical downturn or systemic problem facing the market. Stocks aren’t falling because analysts are lowering profit forecasts en masse, or because economists are predicting a recession on the horizon. Instead, the correction has taken place because of how richly the market is valued.“Valuations may have gotten out of whack, and now we’re experiencing a revaluation of the market because interest rates are going up,” says Ablin, whose firm manages about $22 billion. “It’s like ripping a Band-Aid off.”Great ExpectationsOn Wednesday, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell made it clear that it’s not the central bank’s job to put a floor under the market—the so-called Fed put. That shift in expectations has been felt in Treasuries, where yields have risen, and in high-multiple stocks and other particularly pricey assets.Buzzy technology stocks trading for eye-watering multiples of future expected revenues, unprofitable initial public offerings, special purpose acquisition company mergers, meme stocks, and cryptocurrencies are among the biggest losers this year. Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury note’s yield has risen by 0.28 of a percentage point in 2022, to 1.78%, as its price has declined.Credit markets and many overseas stock indexes have held up much better than the S&P 500 and Nasdaq, and the price of gold is down, confirming that the recent scare isn’t about a general flight to safety.“Fundamentals, generally speaking, remain quite stable and in good shape,” says Dubravko Lakos-Bujas, J.P. Morgan’s chief U.S. equity strategist. “It’s really a question of multiples.”Powering ThroughIn fact, the early 2022 selloff has fallen neatly along valuation lines. Other defensive stock characteristics—think low leverage or high returns on equity—have been less of a factor.“The valuation gap between the expensive and cheaper stocks is still very high, relative to history,” Palfrey says. “There’s a fair amount of opportunity for cheap companies to continue outperforming from here.”One way in which 2022 might differ is that traditionally cheap sectors are getting even cheaper because of postpandemic, reopening patterns. That’s as pricier growth stocks face tough comparisons to a strong 2021.Energy stocks are expected to grow earnings per share by 45% this year, with industrials up by 39%. Technology, meanwhile, is seen increasing EPS by just 9%.It’s another sign that the economy isn’t the problem.Volatility Spike“A hawkish Fed and interest-rate increases don’t necessarily equate to the end of the bull market, as long as economic growth remains strong,” says Nuveen CIO Saira Malik.Malik, who also manages the $139 billion College Retirement Equities fund, favors companies that can control their own fate in an inflationary environment and growing economy. Energy stocks are one option. They offer commodity exposure that should insulate them against inflation while benefiting from a global economic reopening. Malik points to Pioneer Natural Resources (ticker: PXD) and Valero Energy (VLO), in particular.Malik also likes some established front-office software companies whose stocks have been punished. Those include Salesforce.com (CRM), which is down 28% since mid-November, and HubSpot (HUBS), off 46%. Unlike stay-at-home pandemic winners, Salesforce and HubSpot should benefit from a return to the office and increased corporate spending.Given inflation uncertainty, volatile markets, and a rising-rate environment, Cresset’s Ablin recommends a similar quality bent, with a focus on dividend-paying shares. He likes Abbott Laboratories (ABT), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), 3M (MMM), Caterpillar (CAT), Automatic Data Processing (ADP), and McDonald’s (MCD).In the near term, some of the big losers in January—technology stocks, biotechs, and small-caps—could see a rebound, says Lakos-Bujas, but not because uncertainty around inflation and Fed policy are going away. Rather, the market just looks to be in oversold territory.Investor sentiment—based on the Investor Sentiment Survey from the American Association of Individual Investors, along with the Hulbert Stock Newsletter Sentiment Index—is at its most bearish level since the March 2020 selloff. Historically low federal fund rates (the rate at which banks lend to one another), combined with enormous levels of fiscal stimulus by the U.S. government, were the main drivers behind this unprecedented 14-year-long bull run in growth stocks.

But with the Federal Reserve poised to roll out a series of interest rate hikes this year, value stocks are probably going to outperform growth stocks for the foreseeable future. In fact, value stocks have already started trouncing growth stocks, in terms of their total return on capital, since the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2021.

With this powerful trend reversal in mind, investors may want to load up on high-quality value stocks during the opening weeks of 2022. Which value plays are the best buys right now? The dividend-paying pharmaceutical stocks Takeda Pharmaceutical and Viatris are both currently trading at dirt-cheap valuations. Here's why investors may want to add these two drugmakers to their portfolios soon.

Takeda Pharmaceutical: An incredibly cheap high-yield dividend stock

Japanese pharma giant Takeda was one of the few major drug manufacturers to lose ground during the 14-year-long bull market. Various clinical setbacks, upcoming patent expiries, a highly leveraged balance sheet due to itsacquisitionof the rare disease specialist Shire, and a lack of a franchise-level medication all weighed on its shares during this period. Takeda's shares, in fact, have lost almost a third of their value in just the past three years. However, the company's stock now appears primed for a major reversal for three key reasons.

First off, Takeda's Wave 1 clinical pipeline has started to generate some truly high-value commercial products recently. Late last year, for instance, the company scored two important U.S. regulatory approvals for the post-transplant cytomegalovirus infection drug Livtencity and the niche lung cancer medication Exkivity. Takeda believes these two drugs will help drive respectable levels of top-line growth all the way out to fiscal year 2030 and keep its ongoing deleveraging process on track.

Second, Takeda's stock is presently trading at 1.5 times fiscal year 2022 projected sales. That's easily one of the lower price-to-sales ratios in the major drug manufacturing space right now. Takeda, in effect, is a bona fide value stock. This ought to benefit the drugmaker's share price in the current value-oriented market.

Third, Takeda pays out a sky-high annualized dividend yield of 5.6% right now. The company's stellar yield is also well-funded, evinced by its fairly low payout ratio of 59.4%.

All told, Takeda's stock ought to shine as investors rotate into pure-play value stocks and away from riskier growth equities.

Viatris: Stability and a top dividend yield

Viatris is a generic and biosimilar drug company. Since itsformationa little over a year ago, the company's shares have fallen by over 10.4%. Viatris' stock has so farfailed to exciteinvestors due to itsdebt-laden balance sheet, lack of clear-cut growth products, and rather modest long-term outlook. The company, after all, isn't expecting sustainable top-line growth until 2024.

Despite these headwinds, however, Viatris stock should appeal to investors with an eye toward value. The long and short of it is that Viatris' stock is among the absolute cheapest within the realm of dividend-paying pharma stocks right now. Underscoring this point, the drugmaker's shares are presently trading at less than one time forward-looking sales. What's more, Viatris currently offers shareholders an above-average yield -- relative to its peer group -- of 3.29% on an annualized basis.

So while Viatris stock isn't going to make shareholders rich anytime soon, this pharma stock does come across as a highly safe investing vehicle, thanks to its bargain bin valuation and attractive dividend yield. And Viatris' top-notch margin of safety should prove to be a winning feature in this risk-averse market.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Dirt-Cheap Value Stocks to Buy Now
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Dirt-Cheap Value Stocks to Buy Now\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-01-30 10:21 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Growth stocks, on balance, have dramatically outperformed value stocks since the last major financial crisis. That's easily one of the lower price-to-sales ratios in the major drug manufacturing space right now. Takeda, in effect, is a bona fide value stock. This ought to benefit the drugmaker's share price in the current value-oriented market.Third, Takeda pays out a sky-high annualized dividend yield of 5.6% right now. The company's stellar yield is also well-funded, evinced by its fairly low payout ratio of 59.4%.All told, Takeda's stock ought to shine as investors rotate into pure-play value stocks and away from riskier growth equities.Viatris: Stability and a top dividend yieldViatris is a generic and biosimilar drug company. Since itsformationa little over a year ago, the company's shares have fallen by over 10.4%. Viatris' stock has so farfailed to exciteinvestors due to itsdebt-laden balance sheet, lack of clear-cut growth products, and rather modest long-term outlook. The company, after all, isn't expecting sustainable top-line growth until 2024.Despite these headwinds, however, Viatris stock should appeal to investors with an eye toward value. And Viatris' top-notch margin of safety should prove to be a winning feature in this risk-averse market.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"VTRS":0.9,"TAK":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":140,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9093312074,"gmtCreate":1643515957177,"gmtModify":1676533827800,"author":{"id":"4106437268723080","authorId":"4106437268723080","name":"Tigershark","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/a5cba24d62a3defae5f22f167bbe3318","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4106437268723080","idStr":"4106437268723080"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9093312074","repostId":"1191140677","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1191140677","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1643509277,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1191140677?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-30 10:21","market":"us","language":"en","title":"2 Dirt-Cheap Value Stocks to Buy Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1191140677","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Growth stocks, on balance, have dramatically outperformed value stocks since the last major financia","content":"

Growth stocks, on balance, have dramatically outperformed value stocks since the last major financial crisis. Inc. is targeting a date on or near March 8 to unveil a new low-cost iPhone and an updated iPad, according to people with knowledge of the matter, kicking off a potentially record-setting year for product launches. The company is also planning new services, such as a feature that lets the iPhone accept payments with the tap of a credit card.Apple is working on a high-end mixed reality headset as well, but that’s now more likely to be released in 2023. The company had aimed to announce the device as early as the end of 2022, but development challenges have delayed the timing, Bloomberg reported last month.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"NGD":1,"AAPL":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":388,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9091344255,"gmtCreate":1643788309888,"gmtModify":1676533856496,"author":{"id":"4106437268723080","authorId":"4106437268723080","name":"Tigershark","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/a5cba24d62a3defae5f22f167bbe3318","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4106437268723080","authorIdStr":"4106437268723080"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9091344255","repostId":"2208005330","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2208005330","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1643761386,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2208005330?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-02 08:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Reasons to Keep Investing Despite the Crypto Market Dropping","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2208005330","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Although it might seem like the right move, now is not the time to panic and sell all of your digital assets.","content":"
\n
In 2021, the value of the entire cryptocurrency market nearly tripled. Therefore, it's a good idea to keep investing.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GOOG":0.61}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":567,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9091358666,"gmtCreate":1643784561430,"gmtModify":1676533856120,"author":{"id":"4106437268723080","authorId":"4106437268723080","name":"Tigershark","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/a5cba24d62a3defae5f22f167bbe3318","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4106437268723080","authorIdStr":"4106437268723080"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9091358666","repostId":"2208330264","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2208330264","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1643761417,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2208330264?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-02 08:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Crypto Crash: 1 Top Cryptocurrency to Buy in a Heartbeat","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2208330264","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The promise of real-world use cases makes this an easy investing decision.","content":"
The recent dip can be a perfect entry point for long-term investors.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TPS":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":645,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9093787694,"gmtCreate":1643710670776,"gmtModify":1676533847155,"author":{"id":"4106437268723080","authorId":"4106437268723080","name":"Tigershark","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/a5cba24d62a3defae5f22f167bbe3318","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4106437268723080","authorIdStr":"4106437268723080"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9093787694","repostId":"2208733463","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2208733463","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga Earnings","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1643705841,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2208733463?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-01 16:57","market":"us","language":"en","title":"7 Stocks To Watch For February 1, 2022","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2208733463","media":"Benzinga Earnings","summary":"Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:\n\tWall Street expects United Parcel Service, Inc.
