Precious metals shares shined on Friday as spot gold and silver jumped.
Endeavour Silver up over 7%; First Majestic Silver, Hecla Mining up over 3%; Sibanye up 2%.
Iran restricted internet and phone access overnight to quell escalating protests across the country, as Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that he won’t back down against the demonstrators.
The death toll since the unrest began late last year has risen to 42, according to the US-based Human Rights News Agency, which tracks protests and the activities of political activists in Iran. UK broadcaster BBC said it had independently confirmed at least 21 of the fatalities.
