Bitcoin surges past $102,000 as the dollar sinks on Trump tariff news
The macroeconomic factors continue to loom large in Bitcoin's continually evovling lifecycle as an asset increasingly favored by Wall Street.
Case in point: A report by the Washington Post that President Trump's tariffs might not be as widespread as once thought triggered a dip in the dollar and a near-immediate 2% swing in Bitcoin's price. President Trump later refuted that report and Bitcoin pared gains in evening trading.
MicroStrategy Buys 1,070 BTC, Plans to Raise Up to $2B Through Preferred Stock Offering
MicroStrategy (MSTR) has increased its bitcoin (BTC) holdings for the ninth consecutive week.
MicroStrategy holds more bitcoin than any other publicly traded company. In the week ending Jan. 5, MicroStrategy purchased a further 1,020 BTC for $101 million, bringing its total bitcoin holdings to 447,470 BTC.
It wouldn't be a Sunday without Executive Chairman Michael Saylor teasing the announcement in a post on X. The average purchase price of the bitcoin was $94,004, which raised the average price to $62,503.
Microstrategy’s Michael Saylor Open to Crypto Advisory Role in Trump Administration
Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman and co-founder of Microstrategy, the public company that holds the most bitcoin, remains open to taking a crypto advisory role in the upcoming Trump administration.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Saylor was inquired about his political views and possible involvement with the upcoming administration. When asked if he had met with President Trump, Saylor smirked, denying to disclose if these contacts were taking place.
Riot Platforms’ bitcoin reserve swells in 2024
Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT) produced 516 bitcoins in December, up 4% from 495 bitcoins produced in November, but down 17% from 619 bitcoins produced in December 2023.
As of month-end, the company held 17,722 bitcoins, including 5,784 bitcoins acquired in December 2024. That represents a 141% growth in bitcoin held compared to the end of 2023.
Avg. operating hash rate over the month was 27.4 EH/s.
Bitcoin Spot ETF Flow
Yesterday the net inflow of the US Bitcoin spot ETF was $987.06M. The highest net inflow on Jan 6 was Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund , with a net inflow of $370.24 million. Following that was iShares Bitcoin Trust , with a net inflow of 209.08 million, according to SoSoValue.
