US President Donald Trump said he is not looking to put a pause on tariffs to accommodate negotiations with trading partners, Reuters reported Monday.
Trump said he would talk with China, Japan, and other countries regarding the levies, the report said.
"We have many, many countries that are coming to negotiate deals with us and they're going to be fair deals. And in certain cases they're going to be paying substantial tariffs. There'll be fair deals," Reuters quoted Trump as saying.
Trump also reiterated his threat to impose another 50% tariff on Chinese imports unless China withdraws its threat of a reciprocal 34% tariff on US exports to China.
Trump's threat of reciprocal tariffs sent shockwaves across Asian markets Monday.
