Tesla Bucks U.S. Tech Trend Premarket on SpaceX Merger Reports -- Market Talk
Dow Jones01-30
1132 GMT - Tesla shares gain 2.2% premarket on reports that the electric-vehicle maker might merge with SpaceX. The private space exploration company was founded by Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk, and is slated for a hotly anticipated initial public offering later this year. SpaceX is weighing up a merger with Tesla or with another Musk company, xAI, Bloomberg reports. Tesla said it will invest $2 billion in xAI in an earnings release Wednesday. Tesla's gain runs counter to a broader selloff in U.S. technology stocks premarket, with futures for the tech-heavy Nasdaq index falling 0.8%. (josephmichael.stonor@wsj.com)
