Market Chatter: Thailand Weighs Supply Opportunities in US LNG Export Projects

MT Newswires Live06-30 18:58

Thailand's state-owned PTT (BKK:PTT) is assessing investment opportunities in the U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) export projects, including a possible stake and long-term offtake arrangements, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

This came as the country seeks to broaden fuel supply sources. Among the projects under discussion is Woodside Energy's Louisiana LNG development, although negotiations remain preliminary. PTT said it is reviewing LNG opportunities in the U.S. and other markets, while Woodside declined to comment, according to the sources.

The move follows supply disruptions linked to the Iran conflict, which exposed Thailand's dependence on Middle Eastern LNG and increased purchases of higher-priced spot cargoes. Separately, Bangkok plans to expand LNG import capacity to support rising electricity demand, including from upcoming data center developments, the news outlet said.

PTT did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for a comment.
