Singapore Shares Open Lower as Rising Oil Prices Dampen Tech Rally Mood

MT Newswires07-23

Singapore shares opened lower on Thursday, as rising oil prices negated the positive cheer around the tech rally.

The Straits Times Index opened lower by 0.26%, or by 14.52 points, at 5,580.90.

Brent crude prices rose after reports of Iran-backed Houthi militants targeting two Saudi Arabian tankers in the Red Sea, fueling the Middle East conflict and raising concerns over more supply disruptions. Global benchmark Brent advanced 2% to around $96 a barrel.
